that's bs!
didn't you say you would never date someone younger than you?
-
It was either KMFDM's Nihil or the Mortal Kombat Soundtrack, both of which I got on cassette around the same time.
The first CD I can remember personally buying was Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar, but I'm sure there was something before that. The soundtrack to my youth is without a doubt industrial.

i think i bought both the album of backstreet boys, the one that had ''quit playing games with my heart,'' and i spice girls' debut album.i was a member of some bookclub that gave me a free calculator when i became a member and i was so happy until i found out you had to buy stuff on a monthly basis. :-\

OMG @ bud
Aren't you dutch or something?

and in my defence--they were all the rage back then. both of them. :-\

I had CDs before that, but I'm pretty sure this is the first one I bought on my own at Amoeba during my Freshman year of college.

That's ok, my brother brought in a tape of Kris Kross and I thought it was hot shit.
EDIT: when I was 7.

I can't ever remember a period in my life where I didn't listen to music... The first cassette I ever received was a Billy Ocean tape from my aunt when I was 5, because I loved "Carribean Queen" and "Get Out Of My Dreams (Get Into My Car)".
First cassette with my own money (got it when I was 7 or so):

First cassette of my own: Mariah Carey's "Daydream"
First CD of my own: All 4 One, right before I saw them in concert
A few of the other first CDs in my collection were mentioned already I think: Spice Girls' "Spice", No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom", Hanson's "Middle of Nowhere", Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "Let's Face It", Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Volumes 1 & 2. :D

Actually going by the release dates...maybe I bought Dookie before Weird Al. Oh well.
Most of the albums I listened to when I was in middle school/early high school were pawned off my dad.
-
First cassette was Def Leppard Hysteria
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7c/Def_Leppard_-_Hysteria.jpg)
My first CD was Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/60/GunsnRosesAppetiteforDestructionalbumcover.jpg/180px-GunsnRosesAppetiteforDestructionalbumcover.jpg)
I got into music late despite having mtv at an early age. I always figured why listen to the radio/music and only use my ears when I could watch tv and use my eyes AND ears. Yah, I don't quite understand the logic either but it was purely my own.
-
I'm pretty sure it was R.E.M.'s Document from when I was in the sixth grade or so. I bummed metal off my sister until then-I barely had enough spare money for video games, much less music.
-
Just my two cents; Vent is much better than Teamspeak. Also, I'll do it, for fun.

The first three CDs I bought with my own money were the first three Nine Inch Nails CDs. I rogued corn for a week when I was 14 and came out of it with a Gary Fisher mountain bike (probably my best purchase ever) and those CDs.
-
Alanis Morrisette
-
I mainly listened to my older brothers' cds. the first i got on my own was Eve 6 with the fly on the cover.
