We held off on getting the 1080p LCD Samsung HDTV after finding out we had some major home repairs to do, but this deal is absolutely insane.
1080p 50" Samsung Slim-Depth DLP HDTV
Xbox 360 Premium
Halo 3
$1619.97 with free shipping.
WOW.
-
DO IT. It really is an insane deal.
Halo 3 time!
:rock :rock :rock
-
I'll have to run it by the wife. Aside from making a $30,000 down payment, we've spent a TON of money lately.
-
Samsungs are so sex, I love mine.
-
Our Samsung CRT HDTV has treated us well the last two years, it will end up in our bedroom so I can get my HD action going on upstairs, too.
-
Just tell her you were gonna buy all this stuff eventually for probably more money. Or something. I don't know how that goes. Good luck with that, dude.

Well, she did say I could get a 360 if it were bundled with the TV.
Hell, we've got $35,000 in savings and we're still going to be putting away $1,000 a month even with our mortgage.
-
Yeah I had a Samsung CRT EDTV for a long time and that was a badass tv.
-
Mine only cost $100 brand new. It makes it the ultimate badass.

I still have an old Samsung CRT HDTV. What model is it? I got it for 800 new <3 <3
-
Not sure off the top of my head. It was clearanced at Target back in the Fall of 2005, and I managed to get the last one they had for $100.
-
that's a pretty sexy deal. $35k in savings?! wtf are you waiting for, dm?

I'm not whipped, but I would get serious amounts of shit if I didn't consult with the wife. We've got one of them "equal marriage" things them city folks are doing these days. I can buy games and movies and music and shit whenever, but a big purchase requires discussion.

awesome. is it the one that does the little jingle sound when you turn it on?

Yup! I went into the menu and turned it off, only to discover a sad wife asking for it to come back...

i feel you. my wife and i are the same way when it comes to bigger purchases. for the smaller things, we've got our own play money for that. i'm slowly working the angles to upgrade my tv to a 50" pioneer plasma. it's gonna take some time.

We've agreed to get a new 1080p 40"+ HDTV in the Spring when she gets her bonus... now if I can somehow push up the timeline...

i know how...
"OMG LOOK AT THIS CRAZY DEAL BABY!"

Yeah, my wife doesn't buy anything extravagant that I could use a leverage. :lol

I've got this deal with my wife that she doesn't say anything when I make irrational purchases because of her jaw dropping horse purchase.
oof, that is huge, not to mention the massive upkeep cost of such a beast.
I'd say you've got years of mileage of free reign spending in exchange for that. I know that my wife is going to want a horse too when we move back out west in the future, and I am so not looking forward to paying for that.
I tell my wife when I buy a new game at full MSRP. Usually that's only one or so a month at most. If I raid Big Lots or GoGamer for cheap PC games, I don't really report it or anything. $4-$6 is effectively rounding error in our budget.
-
You can get a 1080P 50" LCD for a little more but you won't get a 360 though. The DLP looks pretty nice but most women prefer flat panels for aesthetic reasons. You might want to ask your wife before she starts yelling at you for buying a bulky tv.

We already have a bulky CRT HDTV, she wouldn't mind a bulky DLP HDTV.
-
I figure I'm golden for a good ten years for that one.
Aren't you thinking about Utah Frag? That's where are horses are currently.
It's on the short list. My wife did graduate work out at USU, and we've visited Logan a few times since. We really like the Cache Valley area quite a bit, and my next job with The Company(tm) will likely have even more location flexibility than my current one, so it's a definitely up there.
Other choices are:
- SE Arizona-maybe 45m or so SE of Tuscon. We visit out there once every 18 months or so just to go birdwatching and it is delightful, also it's not nearly as hot or evil as the northern part of the state.
- Eastern WA - Her family lives in Pasco like right on the Columbia. It's a beautiful area and being close to her aging parents-they are Belgian nationals without too much in the way of US relatives-would be a plus.
- Colorado, not near Denver but maybe somewhere else. She has family in Colorado Springs, though that's a mega fundie/military town and we would have to hide our european socialist leanings even more than we do now here in NC.
We'll figure it out at some point. She's never liked the East and I'm sort of eager to get out of this area as well after being cooped up in it for thirty years.
-
Don't move to Eastern WA. You'll regret it.
Unless you move to Wenatchee, it's gorgeous over there.
-
Wenatchee? Beautiful? Since when? Did they move the town somewhere else?

Avoid Arizona. You'll die from the heat. It set a record this summer with over 30 days of 110 degrees. What about San Diego? SD has great weather, lots of beaches and better traffic than the other major Californian cities.
-

I'd never live there, but I think the scenery over there is nice.
-
Arizona isn't that bad in terms of summer temps, you just have to be careful about where you live. Phoenix is going to roast you, Tuscon will only bake you, and if you go into the mountain burbs an hour out of Tuscon it gets a lot more pleasant, and that's where we would probably live if we moved there.
Also, I hate large cities. Despise them. My wife hates them even more. Hence the more rural the better, provided that I can still get basic services like terrestrial high speed internets and cell phone service.
-
anyway back to the HOT DEAL.
I'd say jump on it, then let her do something cool with her bonus that's totally her call. Provided it's not a horse! ;)
-
If you go to Arizona, I can get you the hookup on the Stargate Worlds MMO. Holla.
-
Goddamnit, distantmantra, you bitch. I finally get an HDTV and you have to outdo me, big rapee style.
-
my wife just took $15K out of savings for a new kitchen. i am SCOT FUCKING FREE to buy anything i want for awhile, including a mexican. mupepe, what's the best sort of mexican to buy?

Dude you should SO buy a cheap live-in babysitter or something.
I'm remodeling my kitchen bit by bit. It's turning out great, though the real transformation won't take place until the new countertops come in (which is like over a year out at my pace).
-
share? my wife is not into horses (her tastes run to regular ipod updates, shoes, and not much else), so i am safe on that front.
-
god damn, Im looking forward to being a married professional married to another professional and having no children
-
35k
jesus hell, that's a new 350z
-
good thing it wasn't a passing fancy. and hey: gets her out of the house so you can slob about playing shitty videogames in your boxers and watching skinemax!
-
hahahaha, nice. my wife gives me very little shit about my stack of "thirty minuters" too. really, i'm glad she's bad at the maths! :heart

Man, Billy Rygar, it sounds like you've got the life. If you ever need a slave, let me know. I don't need much besides food. I'll live a fancy and extravagant life if given the opportunity, but I'm a bohemian at heart, and when I'm not given much, I find I typically do the things I find most meaningful or fulfilling.
-
"it was kinda cool" is my standard response when whe asks me about games I own but have never played.
My wife has learned about my backlog from hell, and viciously teases me every time I bring a new game home. However, she had no problem with me buy 20 PS2 games in Japan last summer.
-
:lol :lol :lol
It was alot but then again she is serious enough that its not really a problem.
How much does it cost to maintain a horse? I would think that it's pretty expensive.

I feel you. I ended up buying a bunch of gaming stuff in Japan this summer too. Mostly because the game packagings are so much better over there and their game stores are much nicer also. I'm still mad that I didn't get a Virtua Stick:High Grade though. :(
-
good lord, and here i was thinking my dog was expensive.

It's not as nice as it seems. I've definitely got my extravagances (food, video games, and books) and so does my wife (horses) but we have to work pretty hard for it.
Still, seems like you make BANK. How old are you, if it's okay to ask?
-
Yeah, which is why I decided to leave out the income question.
But DAMN, dude. It's awesome that you got all that and only being 5 (well, 4 in like a month) years older than me. Guess I should finish getting my bachelor's some day..
-
Would you change jobs if you got your master's? You got a B.A. in history right?
-
Ah, right. I plan on trying to get a Phd so that in my later years I could just end up teaching.
-
English
Is that why you're always correcting spelling errors?
-
Keep doing it. Spelling/grammar flames are funny when done properly.
-
Billy Rygar, you should totally gay marry me. I would be a pretty good pro best friend. My allowance would be negotiable but I probably cost less than a horse.
-

yes, even though I'll feel stupid. But it's something that comes and goes. I've been changing, I think it's funny how no one knows.
I don't talk about, the little things that I do without...

well, there'll be no rest for those tired eyes -- i'm marking it down to learning.

But I would not sleep in a bed of lies.

He vomits more than regular housepets, however. Just pull the string and he'll spew whatever is lining his stomach. He's like a Garbage Pail Kid come to life. I don't think you really want to deal with that. Stick with your dog, Billy.
-
Half truths, Billy. I can take care of myself if I am loving life. I do have a notoriously weak stomach, but I can control that with diet. This past week I have just been ill.
-
He's also very clumsy, and accident prone. Before you know it, you'll be knee deep in medical bills. He is a moneysink.
-

I am somewhat clumsy, but that usually doesn't involve medical bills. I'm not that bad, and again, this week was just an exception. It was a much more damaging trait when I was a little younger and got in the occasional fight that I would invariably lose..
Also, if you live in a country with decent health care, my occasionally fragile health is hardly problematic.
-
I think the choice is clear.
-
If Metroid Prime was lying against my cabinet would you piss on it? Y/N
The first two, yes, definitely. I still hold a positive opinion of the third game, though. I think it lives up to the potential hinted at by the first game.
-
And your opinion on Paul Bowles is what?
i'd let him shit on muh chest mahn.
-
And your opinion on Paul Bowles is what?
A cursory look at his work shows that I am largely unfamiliar with him. I am sure we have enough time until our rendezvous that I can become well-researched and have an opinion of him. I'm not going to lie up expertise about someone, especially someone that appears to be something of a polymath.
-
Congratulations on the 360.
My dad's cousin's husband has a horse. He does those competitions where like you have to tell it what to do without using your hands or those ones where you have to jump over hurdles. Their shits are giant.
-
What the fuck. Evilbore is MONEY CENTRAL. I've made like....13000 in the last 2.5 years. That said, I almost jumped on this deal but talked myself out of it.
-
Sounds like three day eventing in dressage.
I think that's what he called it.
-
Congratulations on the 360.
He hasn't bought it yet, lol.
-
^Well this thread isn't about it, lol.
-
It clearly is, quit ruining his thread. There will be consequences.
-
Well then I"ve been consequenced.
