Title: Should I go to TGS this year?
Post by: Ichirou on September 21, 2007, 10:50:24 PM
I feel like I should, since I've gone for the past two years, but I don't really feel like going.  I usually tend to have the most fun buying TGS-exclusive shit at the Capcom booth, more than anything else.

Yes.  Take better pics than MAF did for PAX.  I want to see how their game booths compare to E3.  If you have time, get someone to take pictures of yourself with booth babes for Synbios.

TGS is still going on?  I thought it was over.  How many days does that thing go on for?

Robby said TGS is like a shitty version of our E3. Well, the good E3.

22nd and 23rd are the days when TGS is opened to the public.  20th and 21st are only for people in the industry.

I thought about going for a day, which is a bit expensive since the train ticket would be almost 20,000 yen, but then I came to my senses.

I went and it kinda sucked.  Everything good had sixty minute-plus lines (the Square closed theater had a 90 minute waiting time).  I will post impressions if anyone wants to hear them.  I also took some pictures.  I will post them if anybody's interested.

Okay, I need to resize the pictures and put them up on Photobucket.  In the meantime, if you guys have any questions about any games, I will give you impressions (if I saw them/played them).

well what did you play?
Title: Re: Should I go to TGS this year?

Gundam: Operation Troy
Sakura Taisen DS
Tales of Destiny Director's Cut Remake
Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Chronicle

A lot of other stuff I saw but didn't play.  The lines were just too damn long.

Nights: Journey Into Dreams
Final Fantasy IV
Metal Slug 7
Valkyrie of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles

Lots of other stuff...

The entrance to TGS 2007.  A world of wonders awaits beyond these gates, if you can stand the 90 minute waiting-lines for most games and movies, lol.

The 360 booth...this is as close as I got to it, 'cuz I don't own a 360 and I know that if I went there it would just make me want to buy one even more than I already do. :P

CLOSED THEATER.  Fuckers.

The first nice-looking G Generations game, IMO.  The battles look as nice as those in Super Robot Taisen Original Generations.

Valkyrie of the Battlefield booth.  The game looks really, really nice.  I didn't play it because the line was too long. :/

Capcom's making a statue of everyone's favorite cheeseburger.  Wonder if lyte edge'll buy it and add it to his collection - he's a Capcom geek.

Nights...the game actually looks pretty nice (well, for a Wii game) and plays just like old-school Nights.  The frame rate during the stage is fucking terrible, though for some reason it stabilizes and looks really nice when you get to the first boss.

Part of Namco Bandai's booth, advertising the (undoubtedly shitty) Haruhi Suzumiya game.

Some DS game called Duel Love.  I guess it's the pretty boy equivalent of a loli rape sim.  Here was this dude in his thirties earnestly playing the demo and using the touch screen to rub a towel all over the nude young man's body to remove the sweat...creepy as fuck.  I had to take a picture of it.

The new Yakuza game.  I can hear Himu fapping from here.

Valkyrie of the Battlefield advertisement, came with the booklet I got from the Sega booth.

The Sakura Taisen DS game - it's a dungeon crawler with randomized dungeons.  In this game you actually use the characters, not the mecha they usually pilot.  You can assemble a party using characters from the Tokyo, Paris, and New York casts.  It's actually pretty fun, even if it graphically looks like a SNES game.

This is in the wrong forum now.  Dammit, someone make me a full mod so I can take care of this stuff!

Who was ogling a game where you touch boys again?   :-*

I'm more of an SNK geek, HACTUALLY.   :tophat  But I do love the Capcom.  I don't buy those expensive-ass statues and crap, dude.  When I geek out and buy a toy, it's from a recycle shop cheap.  You'd have to be fucking nuts to spend 5000+ yen on a fucking toy.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'd totally get that statue.  I do need a cheeseburger to brighten up the room  :-*

I just mentioned it 'cause I remember you posting about your wife's friends freaking out when they saw your statues. :lol

So you bought all of them used?  Aren't you afraid they've been, uh..."played with"?

Duel Love looks pretty good

BTW, Operation Troy really fucking sucks.  It looks just as bad as it did last year, no improvement whatsoever.

holy shit they go all out on those booths.
Duel Love looks pretty good

Valkyrie of the Battlefield sure has some ridiculous character designs. The bonnet and the M1 carbine-like rifle really make me go "wtf".

Comparing and contrasting E3 and TGS point out one real thing to me-the hardcore console gamer markets in each territory are diverging at a faster rate than ever in terms of tastes. How that affects the industry, I have no idea.

Edit: Ichirou, thanks for taking pictures.  I would send you a cookie but the :cookiem would intercept it.

What kind of game is Valkyrie of the Battlefield?  Action?

I just mentioned it 'cause I remember you posting about your wife's friends freaking out when they saw your statues. :lol

The only ones I bought new are these two Rumble Roses figures that weren't that much in the first place.  Plus some of the trading figures and capsule toys you get from vending machines too.  It was the Rumble Roses figures that the one girl couldn't stop staring at, and remarking that the boobs were too big.   :lol

The other stuff...yeah, I DO worry about that some "sticky solution" having been used.  I hope to god the people at those shops clean that shit.  The prices of used toys are insane too.  Some of them get priced as high as 8000 yen, and these aren't resin kits.

BTW, Operation Troy really fucking sucks.  It looks just as bad as it did last year, no improvement whatsoever.

:-\  This is the universal opinion from the show.  They should probably just go ahead and cancel it now.

Where are the booth babes, Ichi?  Do they have a PC section at all?  I wish you had played more next-gen games.  Even at the last 2 "real" E3s, I barely spent any time with the last-gen stuff.
Title: Re: Should I go to TGS this year?

There were booth babes, but I didn't take any pictures of them.  It just seems oh-so-creepy to do so.

I played the games where the lines were shortest, basically.  I had no interest in waiting 60 to 90 minutes to try out some of this stuff...the whole show would have ended by the time I got to play two or three games.

I don't think it's so creepy if you're just taking friendly pictures with them.  Most of the chicks at E3 are quite nice.  I chatted with a few of them and they weren't stuck up at all despite looking like Playboy models.  I think it's weird though if some guy just start asking a booth babe to strike a specific pose or something like that.

But it's not creepy to take pictures of a guy playing a touchy-feely male dating sim on DS?  ???

Yeah, Capcom.  Keep making fucking merchandise, but by all means don't make a new goddamn Street Fighter or Vampire game.   :maf
