As you can see, some changes are going down. The sports forum has been assimilated into general discussion for the time being. Here's a chance to make another change that I've heard entirely too much crap about.
You guys have 48 hours to secure 30% of our registered member list to get this to pass. That's roughly 72 votes needed to split the forum. It will take roughly a third of our member list to convince me that we have the base willing enough to support two forums.

I voted NO since one forum is going go be barren. At least in one unified forum, people who don't usually participate in gaming threads end up doing so since its right in front of them.

I'm not making any bets yet. OSU is a freaking beast. Before the season started I felt they would demolish Michigan. But now...Michigan looks really good. #4 ranked.

1. The forum is not big enough to ne seperated into two subforums. There is hardly ever enough new posts each day to create a need to go to a second page of threads.
2. If you seperate, one of the forums will look smaller, get lass traffic and die out.
3. Keeping it to one general forum keeps people honest and consistent. In seperated subforums, people will misbehave and lash out on one forum and then try to legitimize themselves by being semi-timid in the other forum.

Separating "gaming" and "other" will help in this forum growing larger. There are others that I have told about this forum who are interested in posting here, but don't like that everything is lumped together. Splitting makes a lot of sense, IMO.

If that happened, it wouldn't be a big deal to remerge everything back together again, right?

I disagree. There's a lack of gaming topics here already; a new forum would be great for those of us looking to talk about games more, and then the general forum wouldn't have "those annoying video game threads" thrown in there.
I guess I just don't see why having a gaming and general forum is such a huge problem for some of you. It's not difficult to check them both, things will be more organized, and more people will come here.

No I really think more members would help this forum grow larger lol.
As for the 'fix it if it doesnt work': I dont really every support this type of administration. Why not wait until there is an obvious need, not decide to roll something out when the forum is split on whether or not it needs it.
We just killed a forum today, and its not like sports isnt popular, its just no one went to that forum. Sure some of us play games, but most of our threads arent gaming threads. I myself dont think I would make more gaming threads in a gaming forum than I do in our general forum.
If the vote is in favor, fine. Ill abide, I get my way more than enough around here.

this is a forum that's got members coming from two big gaming forums, of course it would please and attract a lot of people that primarily post on them since they're hardcore gamers-- right now the context seems to mirror that of GAF's OT only with less moderation and purpose, and with far fewer members... not very attractive for many of them... the board would greatly benefit from the added seriousness that a full-fledged gaming section would bring
and i think like White Man, look at the members list, many lurkers having never posted or just once or twice... i don't see how it's possible to accumulate 72 votes

Why can't they post in a general forum full of videogame players about videogames? I don't see a legitimate hang up with that.

In any case all the arguments presented are not backed up by anything tangible. I mean ANYTHING can have potential in theory. However I am from Waste Not Want Not camp. Id rather see a need first.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but the question is, why haven't they voted at all yet? Are these guys lurkers, or people who just signed up and haven't been back here since?
Anyway, whatever happens, happens and all that. :) I'll say one last time that I have shown this forum to others who have told me they didn't like that there weren't two forums, and would post here if there were, and shut up and let the polls do their work.

I didn't see it among everything else, sorry. ;) Guess a gaming forum isn't happening here; I'll keep www.gamingescape.com open for now then (we were going to close it and tell the members to move here), but no use complaining if I'm not posting enough gaming threads here myself...
