but I couldn't possibly play it on NES or GBC. Fugly central. :-\ if only the SNES version had a complete, and bug free translation patch out there. :(
-
DQ3 GBC still looks good -- good animation, in particular
-
oh really. I thought that since it was on gbc it'd be fugly. I'll look into it.
-
it's based on the SNES version, not the NES version.
-
Oh shit.
-
The GBC version isn't half bad, I was playing it a few months ago.
-
It doesn't look nearly as good as the SNES version but it's very playable. It's one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I really wish they would have brought the SNES version over. Or any of the SNES DQ games. I'm glad 4-6 are finally coming out on the DS. Hopefully I'll like them more than DQ8.

The SNES version has such sweet graphics... what's taking so long with the fan translation? They've been working on that for like a good 5 or so years now?
-
I have the GBC version. It's a sweet game. I should play it, I brought my Game Boy Player for GBC with me from back home...
-
I loved the GBC version, but I ended up not playing it for a few months and totally got lost when I started again :(

okay. i played the gbc version and it does look similar to the snes version, albeit, lower resolution and colors. I like what I played but then I was like,"Well I might as well start at the beginning of the series." so I just got I+II SNES and tried it out. I really like what I played, which was surprising because I hate most 80's nes rpgs and DQI+II is a nes port. I mean I don't like FFI-III. So after I was like "fuck it" and started a game of the DQ I've wanted to play forever: DQV.
I'm at Reinhart now. Game owns.
After this I'll play I-III, VI, and VII. I am not sure if I should play IV or not, because the remake is coming out soon.
-
I thought DQ IV-VI were related like I-III?

They are. Playing DQIV after 5 might be weird.
Playing DQ1+2 after any of the laters will be painful. I highly recommend the SNES versions though if you do choose to do this.

those are the versions i'm going to play through on my psp when i get it

Oh man, soon after Reinhart the game REALLY picks up and throws you for a loop. You're in for a treat, DQ5 is my personal favorite game in the series. The DQ series is excellent, I have yet to beat 2, 6, and 7 though. I heard the GBC version of 2 is a lot easier and more balanced than the NES version, so I'll give that a try, the NES version always pissed me off, it's definitely my least favorite of the series.
-
my favorite DQ game, well... tied with 4 at least. so awesome.

The GBC versions of I&II are pretty good. II has some slowdown, though.
