Plesae help me out!
-
Sorry for the bump but I guess Prole didn't see this or have a solution for my problems.
I keep getting lots of hard disk activity randonmly in Vista which is really annoying when I'm trying to play a game. I don't see any spyware or virus scan either when the HD activity is going on. Everything is ok once I log into XP so I know it's not a hardware problem. Can someone who's knowledge about Vista please help me out?

the problem is that it's vista.

Fuck it, I wish I had a machine to INSTALL VISTA ON!

You have a GTX, right? Is this Vista 32-bit?
If so, did you put on the Vista gaming hotfix related to virtual memory addressing?

I'm using 64bit so that I can access all 4gbs of my ram. Damn, I think you might have found the problem. The fix won't install on the 64bit vista. :(

Except for this problem, Vista has usually ran well for me. Gaming performance is a little less than XP's but Vista's new features make it the OS that I use most.

I used Vista for the first time yesterday. There were drawing issues despite it being a brand new laptop. Not impressed.

yeah while I can understand that DX10 will eventually be the shit right now some games get really poor implementation of it and actually run worse (company of heroes.)
I probably wouldn't have a vista computer until next year anyways though.

I have umm 4 vista machines in my house, and all run awesome. IN UR FACE

The problem doesn't exist on 64-bit Vista because the avaiable address range for the operating system is large enough to accomodate the video card. There shouldn't need to be a fix for this on 64-bit Vista.
Does this happen in all games? I can't help but think if there is significant hard drive activity then there HAS to be something going on with virtual memory getting all crazy on you.

It's not a game problem. There's just random HD activity in the background that interferes with whatever I'm trying to do. It's gone away again for now. I hate it when I don't even know what was causing the problems.

Help me out then, jerk, or ask someone who would know at MS.

I just bought Vista today.
I don't feel like installing it right now though.
-
why'd you "buy" vista? did you get a new computer?
-
I also bought Halo 3.
AND Office 2007.

Whore for Microsoft confirmed. i wouldn't buy Vista in its current state. It's much better to take advantage of the Vista "trial" to see if it's worth bothering with.

TAKE IT BACK!
