Listen, molestation is bad news all around. I'm sorry Mark Foley was molested, but that doesn't excuse his behavior. I hate it when molestors and pedophiles throw around this psycho-babble in an effort to rally sympathy for their crimes. Just makes me fucking sick that Foley has the audacity to release this in hopes that middle America goes, "Awww, well, he was molested!"

Willco...
...I was molested...
...
...by you.

Is that why you molest Shake?

That is a pretty stupid excuse.
-
What a cheap way to try to get sympathy
-
sympathy capital is the name of the game in the medias, and the medias accusing him of crimes without being juries or judges themselves are just as guilty of this... on top of that, they're amoral opportunists that gloat and want to milk as much money as possible out of this "tragedy" that just becomes a machine to print sympathy capital
anyone will use anything left at his disposal to advocate his position and defend whatever's left of his reputation, especially when being completely surrounded and choked, that is a given, and he's being pressurized to levels of high hell to do so-- so while it might or might not be hypocritical, it's not even at Maf54 that I'm pissed, but rather at the sinister circus that surrounds him
thank God politicians will have his deviant IM exchanges with a minor to discuss in the coming months! hell, they could've approved better laws and debated urgent political dilemmas for a change! phfew!

It's situational. In this offense, coming out now with "he was gay and molested as a child" reeks of spin. If it was say a smaller community situation, someone you know being found out and then learning that he was molested, then I would understand more, but not excuse it. It's the politics of how it's being used that bothers me.

still, how would he have gotten massive levels of mediatic attention before? what the heck would've been his interest to bring negative attention upon himself?
whatever occasion would he have had to "reveal" that he would've been sexually molested, when these things are the most shameful traumas in the world and indelibly mess up all your standards? since these are things that people judge very harshly?
he wasn't pressurized to explain himself on anything previously

I dunno. Molestation is one of those things like domestic violence and chemical dependence that do have histories of making former victims into perpetrators. Foley's usage of molestation rings as untrue spin, since he's already blamed these episodes on alcoholism, homosexuality, and untreated mental problems. How many excuses does it take before it sounds like he's just making shit up?
I can't believe that his behavior was known about (at least by pages) since the mid-90s, and nobody ever told the dude to get help.

People who were victims of sexual molestation ofter wind up molesting others in order to hide their shame and guilt. Doesn't make it right of course, but this phenomena is wide known.
Mondain: Are you stupid? This guy was setting up sexual excipades with underage boys. Of course this is a big deal. Your attempts to be cynical and unemotional often come off as pure stupidity.

Everyone knows that pages are good for two things: dirty head in a Capital supply closet; and picking up your blow from your K-Street pimp.

No. At least one person is enjoying it.

because media outlets aren't just as sinister in their mercantile exploitation of the tragedy? they wish to embellish their image just as well and to dampen the legal US law to strengthen their own amoral and immodest one-- when for fairness' sake they should rule nothing, they're not judges, they're not well-intended police detectives either
they're private corporations who only care about making a truckload of money and to boost their reputation out of all this dreadfulness, and since of their practices the whole exact truth doesn't even matter anymore

They are the media: that's their job. So why waste your breath complaining about this reality?
