I played the first one and it rocked, but most of the people that on forums say the sequel was a dissapoinment. Is it Metroid Echoes bad?
-
no, it's just ugly and half-complete. it's the epitome of "lacks polish".
-
But is it as bad as Echoes?
-
god, no. but i think kotor2 is better than the original metroid prime, as well. metroid prime is the magna carta of fps titles.
-
goddamn it drinky
The drop in quality from MP 1 to 2 is a lot less than Kotor 1 to kotor 2.
-
KOTOR is boring period
-
father mike, i agree. mp1 to mp2 is the merely the difference between shit and a full-on hemorrhaging bowel infection.

KOTOR was my favorite game last generation. I loved KOTOR II, but it's unmemorable as far as plot, confusing, and buggy. It's fun as hell to play, but the characters are lame and you can tell the game is rushed as hell. Like Prole said, it's very unfinished. In fact, it's SO unfinished that fans of the PC version either released a huge patch "fixing" the game by stitching together what was there with extra content found on the discs, or there were plans for it. The game actually has code of story/plot lines that are never completed in the real game. There's a whole droid subquest that is hinted at the whole game, but you can't play it.
So, it's frustrating. But, if you loved KOTOR it's a no brainer. There are a lot of things that II does better, combat for one is a lot more streamlined. Seems like the graphics are a little better as well, but the frame rate is still choppy as hell. I dunno about loading times, it loaded pretty damn fast off my HD :-*

The game really only falls apart in the end IMO-it's as good as KOTOR was through the rest of it, with especially strong characterization, something that Obsidian generally does really well. Technical issues like framerate weren't a problem when I played since I just beat it down with good PC hardware.
Ask yourself if you'd play a great game for 30 hours if it meant 30 minutes of WTF at the ending. I definitely thought it was worth it and speak of KOTOR II pretty fondly because of it.

The first 30 hours was like the best RPG ever.
The last 5 is like the biggest kick to the nads ever.
-
Yeah, it is really good and improves a lot on the first kotor, but the end was so damned rushed, it kind of leaves you soured on the whole thing. I replayed it recently and it wasn't as bad since I knew what to expect, so I was able to appreciate it more.

Uh.
Echoes is MUCH better than KOTOR II
-
Move out of mah state plz
In all seriousness, I disagree.

After the absolutely perfect KOTOR, The Sith Lords was a disappointment, due to a total lack of polish and Microsoft/Lucas Arts forcing Obsidian to get the game out before it was actually finished. It also had the most rushed and WTF-inducing ending ever.
I still had a lot of fun with KOTOR II, but you could tell it easily could've been even better if Obsidian had been allowed to finish it.
