Title: How often does your 360 freeze up?
Post by: CajoleJuice on September 26, 2007, 09:46:44 PM
It's happened around a half-dozen times to me in the month I've had it. It's been while playing an XBLA game or doing something with the navigation button every time. Is this bad?

It hasn't happened so far with my HDMI-equipped 360.  Freezing is bad news, unless you know it's just due to a bad disc not being read .  However, that's clearly not the problem here.  I'm guessing that it's a heat related issue like most 360 problems.

its happened once after countless hours of halo 2 at a "lan party".

Also I believe it was a backwards compatibility problem, as this was before the latest updates for said game

Never had any other problems since I got it a year+ ago in regards to x360 games. No rrod, nothing.

IMBLESSED

My box "freezes" when switching from the friends list to say recent players sometimes, but its more of "takes a long time" rather then freezing. You may want to be more patient and see if its not frozen, just doing something intensive.

a freeze which I have to restart the console for is maybe once a month.  sometimes I press the guide button when a game is loading and it'll lag for a little while (game or guide button or both.)

Maybe. I waited a decently long time when it just happened now, though. :-\

And this is one of the HDMI ones... :(

So, wait, does this mean the HDMI units are buggy too?  This sucks.  :-\

wtf MS...I want to buy your console...do some quality control already.

yeah i dont know, sometimes I'm going around the guide looking for shit then I press A accidentally and I go to press back but I have to wait it out for some strangely long reason

No other problems here, I have a near-launch premium.

Mine froze up just after finishing the Upper Mecha Base optional dungeon in BD, after spending 2 hours killing every enemy and looting the shit out of the dungeon (no save points in the dungeon, only when you first enter), I went to pick up the final chest (after you beat the boss), and BOOM, it froze :(

same here.  but my 360 has never actually frozen.  and to be fair, the pause only lasts around 10 seconds

Yea, mine is definitely not 10 seconds. I wish I could defrag the hard drive. I think it's only going to get worse. :-\

you can't defrag the hard drive but you can clear the cache.

Yeah ive done that, be aware it gets rid of all game patches/updates so you also have to redownload them when you launch a game

it worked well though

I actually just had my first freeze ever tonight.  I was streaming a movie from my MacBook to my 360 and it froze about an hour into the movie.  I don't think it had to do with overheating.  The freeze happened when I dropped another file into the movie folder.  Not a big deal though.  I just reset the console.  I've never had it freeze up during a game before though.

Fuck, I'm gonna clear my cache. It's freezing up all the time with the fucking guide. And the SKATE demo locked up on me for the second time. God fucking damn it.

Reasons for this:

1- MS servers are hammered/slow at the moment.

2- your internet is hammered/slow.

3- demos might cause this due to bad programming...etc...even full games might lock down as well due to this.

4- overheating 360, let it cool down for a moment.

5- shit is about to go RROD.

*solution:

1- open the 2 Xbox Live ports in your router: http://portforward.com/

2- delete cache.

Well, I've had the ports opened the whole time.

Well, is your internet stable? no slowdown?

do you feel your connection to the 360 slow?

try clicking on friends and see how fast their gamepics/info generates, then press B to see how fast it goes back to the dashboard.

if it's more than 15/20 sec at max, then there is something fishy with either your connection or MS servers.

NOTE: Also open NAT and UPNP on your router, it could help.

Halo completely decimated Live, everything has been going wonky

My NAT is open. Like demi said, it's probably just Halo 3 destroying everything in its path. When I went to Best Buy to pick it up, their servers were down because of Halo 3.

my 360 froze today and I just bought it yesterday!

I was looking at the friend's list, and it froze.

yeah I've been getting some freezes when looking at friend's lists/messages but that's never happened before so I'm guessing Live is the problem.
