Title: knocked up extended edition
Post by: Mupepe on September 29, 2007, 12:25:11 PM
:bow :bow :bow omg

I love it.  This is the first extended edition of a movie that makes me feel like it's added something REALLY significant.  The movie has so much more soul with all the extra parts.  The majority of it parts that are there to make you care more about the characters and understand where they're coming from.  So fucking awesome.

omg :bow :bow

There's 50 minutes (50!!!!) of extra shit!  THAT'S A LONG ASS MOVIE.  I love it <3 <3 <3

Uh...they only added 4 minutes, not 50. Only 2-3 scenes are new.

Didn't really like this movie.  Seth Rogen did not make for a likeable main character and neither did that blonde bitch.  The laughs were few and far between, and this was pretty much a chick flick.

I still wanna know how Mupepe thinks a 2 hour movie has somehow nearly an entire hour of new footage added in.

Should probably watch the theatrical cut of kingdom of heaven and the directors cut back to back to know what a REAL extended edition can do for a previously meh movie.

The extended cut of 40 Yr Old Virgin is substantially worse than the theatrical cut.

40 year old virgin DC was worse.

Knocked Up is really a non-factor. It's just two short scenes that really add nothing much. I am glad they didnt pull a 40YOV with it.

I liked the extra scenes in the DC of the 40YOV. shrug

they weren't bad, the movie is still fantastic but it is the "worse" of the two cuts, it feels a little long.

Also how could you say such things about KU willco.  :-\ It's the best "Apatow Production" thingy next to Freaks and Geeks.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
1. Freaks and Geeks
2. Knocked Up
3. The 40-Year Old Virgin
4. Undeclared
5. Superbad

All my friends loved Superbad. Alas, I have not seen it.
Title: Re: knocked up extended edition
Post by: Gay Boy on September 29, 2007, 03:24:24 PM
I quite liked it but it's far more immature compared to a Knocked Up or 40 Year Old Virgin. I enjoy the "chick-flick"ish elements of those two it keeps them grounded.
Title: Re: knocked up extended edition
Post by: CajoleJuice on September 29, 2007, 03:25:58 PM
Well, my friends aren't fegs, so the click-flick "more mature" shit doesn't matter. They just want FUNNY. I tend to agree.  :P

Post by: Gay Boy on September 29, 2007, 03:26:49 PM
I love the funny but I prefer the way KU and co. feel more real, the whole McLovin and cops stuff of Superbad is a bit too over-the-top.

Superbad has no serious moments while KU has quite a few and the ending is a tear-jerker.
Title: Re: knocked up extended edition

No serious moments? Sounds good to me!
Title: Re: knocked up extended edition
Post by: Gay Boy on September 29, 2007, 03:29:41 PM
Eh, it's more due to the fact the script is written by Seth Rogen and not Apatow. Apatow tends to always mix comedy with drama. Rogen goes for the pure frat-boy comic nonsense.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind > Knocked Up

I really wouldn't call the drama in that "chick flick" like though so that's a weird comparison.  :lol

Knocked Up is more...women sitting around crying about how marriages grow stale. Chick flicky stuff.

it wasn't.  40YOV dragged too long (in both versions but I preferred the DC).

I think virgin got more chick flicky than knocked up did. Knocked Up alternated from chick drama to humor while virgin went into total drama-chick flick mode for like the entire last 45 minutes  other than the musical number at the end.

I am pretty sure that has everything on it. Make sure to listen to the commentary. It is AMAZING. They have Bill Hader on it and he spends most of it doing impressions of actors as if they were involved in the commentary. It's absolutely hilarious having "Al Pacino" giving a in depth discussion about how many women he has gotten pregnant during the birth scene.  :lol

And having "Peter O'Toole" be convinced that Seth Rogen is really Albert Brooks..etc

I really liked Superbad only for the awesome that is Michael Cera.  Other than that, I'd say 40 Year Old Virgin is my favorite one.  It had the most consistent laughs for me, Steve Carrell is just awesome, and you can't beat that supporting cast.

Knocked Up was really good, but as people have said before here, it's a little too mushy.  Seth Rogen's good stuff though.

Haven't watched Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, or Heavyweights yet.

Heavyweights....  :lol

Apatow in the mid-90's (and even sometimes today) did a lot of writing for hire for shitty movies like Heavyweights, Celtic Pride ..etc ignore them.

If you want a list of I guess stuff Apatow really had a influence on (not just writer for hire or random producer) I would say it'd go like this off the top of my head:

TV:
The Ben Stiller Show
The Larry Sanders Show
Freaks & Geeks
Undeclared

Movies:
The Cable Guy
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Knocked Up
Superbad

What you're saying is that everything he did that was good was "his" work, but everything bad was just "writing for hire."  I dunno, man, usually whenever you deal with a writer or creative type, you should take all his work, good and bad, and judge it for what it is.  And for what it's worth, Heavyweights definitely feels like an Apatow film.

Well the other stuff he produced as well and had significant control over. Heavyweights was just him pumping out a script for Disney. It can feel like Apatow but I really wouldn't put it alongside Knocked Up and 40 Year Old Virgin.  :lol

Unless he publicly disowns those works, I shall always consider them a vital part of the Apatowgraphy, and necessary viewing to understand the auteur's psyche.

To be fair, Shia>Robot Action. Megan had no redeeming values

All the "action" was a blur of indistinguishable metal tumbling around in half second shots. Transformers would be better if you cut the Transformers out and left Shia

Just finished watching it - Knocked Up seemed waaaaaay too chick-flickish to me, I couldn't really get into the humor. I thought the first 2/3 of 40 Year Old Virgin was fucking hilarious though, so I had high hopes. Haven't seen Superbad yet.

Good. Transformers was shit, outside of Shia. Shia was the only thing worth seeing in that movie. I have no fucking clue how he has done it but Shia is a pretty damn decent actor.

Transformers was fucking terrible, but I actually liked Shia in it.  He's pretty charismatic, and I don't particularly think him as Indy Jr was bad casting.  Charisma goes a long ways, and it's kinda what got Harrison Ford so far (along with his classic ad libbing ability).

There is basically nothing added. (Mupepe admitted he was high when he posted the topic lol). It is all of 2 minutes that are basically impossible to recognize. It is not like 40 Year Old Virgin.
