I'm of the opinion that it was some sort of death dream caused by whatever agent orange-like chemicals the soldiers were exposed to.
Angel Heart is great. It was all downhill for Mickey Rourke after that for a long while. I love all the subtle little touches, like

The book is good, too, a nice little combination of hardboiled mystery writing with horror.
Devil's Advocate is okay. The lead character's name is Kevin, and my name is Kevin, so for weeks after we saw it one of my friends would call me "Keeeeevvvviiiin" in a Pacino voice.
