Are the other books in the series good? I've never read any of them, and I'm assuming when people talk about Hitchhiker's they're just talking about the original novel. Has anyone read the other four? I see a nice leather-bound collection "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide" for only 20 bucks on Amazon. I'm thinking of ordering it.

all are worth reading, but the first 3 are the best by far, with so long having its moments. I actually just ordered the book your talking about a few days ago. My gamercy leatherbound of dickens was awesome, so at $20 you can't go wrong.

First two are the best...after that, there's a dropoff in quality.
-
they are good through the third book, but the last two are a huge drop in quality. Read The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch instead.
.

I think I'll buy both. And some other PKD stuff. :-[
Actually, I think I'll get this:

Get that Hitchhiker's book straight off the Barnes and Noble site if you order it. Free 3-Day shipping on orders of $25 or more.
And get The Philip K. Dick Reader instead. A solid collection of his short fiction for $16.
-
Why don't I just get both? There's no overlap, and I've wanted to read Electric Sheep for a while, and Stigmata is being recommended highly by respected elders.

I have that volume he linked, and it's a great start, too. Three awesome novels and one pretty good one.

AMAZON BUYING SPREE COMMENCING
That reader is only 11 bucks on Amazon. :rock

I enjoyed the morbid pessimism of the fifth book. But yeah, most people are talking about the first two --- which are really an adaptation of a radio show, and are only two books instead of one because Adams couldn't meet his deadline --- and maybe the third, which is more like the last two in that it attempts a plot (which is a bit tricky when you have Infinite Improbability Drives around) instead of being a bunch of absurd jokes and situations strung together, but still has some of the best jokes in the series nonetheless.

Buy that leather bound edition of HGTTG. I have it and it's a very nice book.
-
I did, sir.
-
The second book is nearly as good as the first. Both are amazing and must reads. I never finished the third (or any of the others) though.
-
Without spoiling it, my favorite part of the HGTTG is when Ford and Arthur come across the civilization comprised of worthless professions/castoffs. It's such a hilarious take on society and when they start to use tree leaves as currency, I just lost it. :lol
I've probably read those chapters 100 times.
-
lol society

Reading that was one of my favorite moments in life ever.

It's been forever, is that the part with the people whose leader really likes taking baths or something?
-
ot, but i've seen the first 15 minutes of the movie, and i kinda liked it. :-[
-
I know the movie is supposed to be horrible but I kinda enjoyed it. I love Alan Rickman and Zooey Dechhananachal or whatever her last name is.

Buy it, it's probably the funniest series I have ever read. The movies don't do the books justice AT ALL.
