Look what dropped into my lap today

Is it retranslated?
and how are the graphics compared to the PS1 release?
-
It's definitely retranslated, I don't understand what any of the moves are :lol
Ramza's skills are now "Rush - Salve - Tailwind - Chant" under the "Mettle" category
I just want to throw a rock :'(
The graphics are blurry, no sharp PSX graphics here.
They also renamed Rad to Ladd

I lol'd!
anyway, thanks for the info demi, this will be nice after beating BD (still on disc 2).

Who is the person who said slowdown was removed? I am getting slowdown just from casting the Fire spell!

Will setting CPU speed to 333 benefit it?
-
Maybe, I'll try it after I finish this battle.
-
Nope 333mhz didn't help at all, still slowdown
-
Are you playing via UMD disc or Memory?
if you are using the disc, try loading it in the memory.
if that doesn't help...fucking lazy S-E.
-
Memory Stick
-
damn...
-
Why wasnt this shit mentioned in the japanese reviews *cancels pre-order*
Too much other shit to play anyway.
-
Should I just buy the PSX version?
-
Sure
-
you should play it period.
nub.
lol @ the new skill names
-
Putting the game on memory stick won't help, the problem with the slowdown is in the actual programming of the port.
-
the game hasn't slowed down all that much so far, but perhaps that I didn't really use any of the special spells or attacks yet
haven't ever played the original FFT because of its garbage translation that makes the story incomprehensible, so I have no frame of reference like demi and the others
the translation for this port is really superb and extremely articulate, the guy who did it is simply the best in the whole industry; he did Final Fantasy XII and Blue Dragon too
-
It's evident in the very first battle, Agrias and Gaff(two f's this time)garion's attacks alone slow down.
Do you have a PSP Slim? I'm not sure if that remedies anything.
-
no, the original fat one

Oh god I want this game. Demiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

You mean Alexander O. Smith? yeah the man is a fucking genius, although i am not sure about BD, according to wiki, he translated "Eternity", not the game.

-
AOSmith just did Eternity. Which is why it's amazing.
The translation of this game looks so far (from what I've seen in screenshots and movies) superbly done. Despite TOSE's best efforts, the game is still great!

Are you sure that he didn't take care of Blue Dragon's dialogue too? That Wiki seems like it hasn't been updated in a while. It doesn't say that the FFT PSP port has been done by him and it's definitely his doing.
I seem to vaguely recall people on GAy saying that he did Blue Dragon's script too...
-
I want a game done entirely in the style of the cutscenes.
I do like the new translation, I'm still on the intro but the game already feels 100% less shitty.
-
I only noticed slowdown with some special moves and spells. I'm pretty sure it is stylistic. Note that I have only played like an hour, so I haven't gotten to the higher end stuff. Not that any of the skills, aside from summons, are any more impressive than the ones towards the beginning.
I'm not totally sold on the new translation. It makes sense and all, but the language is a bit too turgid and flowery. Seems to be trying too hard. Plus they changed the BLAME YOURSELF OR GOD line, so I am knocking at least two points off my final review score.
Also, my nostalgia hasn't been very nice to this game. I kinda remember it being much better in several regards. At least Disgaea is out soon.
-
Stylistic? Not the choice word I would use

Yeah that Wiki isn't up to date.
someone here who beat the game can verify this via the credits.
-
What game, FFT or Blue Dragon?
-
Blue Dragon.
-
Blue Dragon's translation gets kinda shitty in the last quarter or so. Well, there are only a few places where it's really terrible, but I don't understand how anyone rubberstamped some of the stuff towards the end. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else finished it or something.
And demi, stylistic is probably not the best descriptor, but I do think the slowdown is intentional. It only happens during those spell effects, and it definitely seems like it is a tension/drama thing.
Either way, technical or not, it doesn't have any real effect on gameplay. Don't write it off because it slows down very briefly during spell effects. Write it off because it's kinda dated and the FFT you played so many years ago that is alive in your memories isn't quite as good as the real thing. Get Disgaea if you can only get one SRPG!
-
It's not even close to intentional! How is that intentional! Should I make that excuse for all games with shit framerate? No! It's shoddy. I'm compressing FFT PSX right now to compare.
-
BD also had framerate problems while casting some spells.
also Disgaea sucks. :P

It's resticted to those spell effects, and there's no reason that would cause slowdown. It does not have an effect on play.
-
i really miss "blame yourself or god" :'(

The sound quality seems to have taken a hit as well, with music lacking the reverb that made it sound so majestic; plus, certain sounds are simply awful now, like the wind effect that now resembles a busted Atari 2600 game more than a haunting breeze. And then there's the slowdown -- most monster attacks and any animated battle effect, such as spells and sword skills, bring the game to a crawl.

(Reader Question) Are there any plans to fix the supposed slow down from the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions?
Charlie: The slow down is not really bad, but what little there is in the game is out of our hands.
-
Does the slowdown really feel like it makes that big a difference? This is on my list of games I would be buying if I weren't poor, right below Halo 3.
-
Disgaea > FFT lol

ITS NOT STYLISTIC
-
The Ivalice Alliance is marked by the flowery language. It's Elizabethan by design, and it reads beautifully, even if it is a little overwrought in places.
It's not Shakespeare (goes without saying), or even that knave Marlowe, but Smith does this miles better than what other translators do at their thang, and god if it isn't miles apart from the original.
Now I just need to wait for it to come out. :(
-
Come on Demi. In the realm of style the perception of any 'flaw' becomes relative, allowing the work to exist as a godlike immortal.
-
BLAME YOURSELF OR GOD
-
haha, god that lines great. Taking it out is like when they took 'the master of unlocking' out of REmake.
-
What did they change it to?
-
Something normal and boring is all I recall. They redid a lot of the dialogue. Lemme see if I can dig it up.
-
tvc said it was "blame your birth or blame your fate" or something :'( SUCKS
-
I like FFT cause I can grind in the Plain area and kill shit for the rest of the game (until I reach the near endgame subquests)
But Disgaea is going to be awesome on the PSP. Being able to waste hours powering up equipment and grinding while I'm at work is just Oh my god
-
Here's the new lockpick scene:
Barry: Oh! I almost forgot. It’s a lockpick. You’d make better use of it.
*(Barry places the lockpick in her hand.)*
Jill: Thanks. I may need it.
and the Jill Sandwich:
Barry: Grab my hand!
*(He quickly pulls her out into the hallway.)*
Jill: *phew* Barry!
Barry: That was a close one. A second late, you would’ve fit nicely into a
sandwich!
The sandwich joke almost doesnt make sense anymore and is kinda creepy. Barry - Serial Killer
-
Ohhhh is that the line he says when he punches Ovelia in the intro?
Haha, yeah that's definitely different from BLAME YOURSELF OR GOD.
This is what it says
"Tis your birth and faith that wrong you, not I."
You can see it here

Lame! BLAME YOURSELF OR GOD is awesome and fits with the dumb story.
-
Final Fantasy Tactics' OST is one of the best OSTs evar, the opening prologue music is so good.
-
I got a good feeling!
-
Alexander O Smith wasn't involved with this one, translators were Joe Reeder (FF12) and Tom Slattery (FF6 GBA).
-
All the clips I've seen sound awesome but I heard they actually deleted stuff for the translation (Ramza's inner monologues), which pisses me off. >:(

Posting for future reference
When you reach Chapter 4, head over to The Mining Town of Gollund.
Check out the "Rash of Thefts" rumor from the tavern
Drop by The Merchant City of Dorter's tavern and read the "A Call for guards" rumor
Leave town, then you'll automatically encounter battle
Win with the help of Balthier and he's yours

Real talk. Console games don't age as gracefully as PC games.
-
the distinguished mentally-challenged rescue missions are just AWFUL design. AWFUL.

Velius fight ftw
I mean FTL fucking distinguished mentally-challenged
-
bo bo bo bo auto-potion + x-potion + no other potion types in inv + accelerate + stone
th' fuck, how did i ever think that was clever and/or fun
-
Haha, that's what I did too (except the accelerate and stone bit, I had Ramza as a Monk then so I pounded his dick in)
Chemist + Gun ftw
