You scum. I also liked Mario Sunshine.
I saw you jerks trashin this shit in the other thread. Back off. #1
-
Who says it's not?
-
Drinky, but I agree with him to an extent. It has definitely aged. Sunshine is like five times better.
But Galaxy is like the best of Mario evar omg omg
-
YOU HAVENT EVEN PLAYED GALAXY AHRHHGHGHGHGHGH
-
But Galaxy is like the best of Mario evar omg omg
ITS NOT EVE OUT YET!
Mario 64 still holds up just fine. Hell I loved the DS version even, having no problem with controls.
Sunshine has its problems but is still a damn fine game.

Now New Super Mario Brothers. Thats worth some ire

Now New Super Mario Brothers. Thats worth some ire

Yup! Good fun for a handheld game, and that's all it needs to be.
And obviously my Galaxy love is too early, but c'mon. Is anyone doubting that it'll be the best Wii game so far?

NSMB sucked

what made sunshine trash other than the poopy lolz find the shine sprites? there's a 120 fucking of them, and some are nigh impossible to find!
I mean, you know, other than that.

level design was to large which made platforming barren. collect the coins. lack of different locations.
-
The series topped at Yoshi's Island, the 3D games were bullshit excercises in imprecision, and New Super Mario Bros. was a good attempt to bring the series back to what it should be.
Totally agree with you. I could just never get into the 3D Mario games, although I thought the FLUDD-less platforming stages in Sunshine were fantastic. Galaxy looks like it furthers the "get from point A to point B" aspect of the classic Mario games while removing all the bullshit like fetching coins, rolling watermelons down hills, spraypainting electric blobs, etc.

most of the levels are badly designed. there are half as many as there were in mario 64. and yet, as you mention, there are just as many 'stars' or 'shines.' bad design and extreme repetition are a nasty combination -- ask people what they think of halo's library.
those platforming mini-stages were awesome though
i don't know, maybe i'm hard on it because
a. i quite literally bought a gamecube to play it
b. it was the first indication that ead was no longer in the first flight of game developers
-
NSMB is an insult to platformers. Yoshi's Island DS is much better
bubub old skool Mario ure just a nOOb if you cant handle his roots STFU SMB1 is 10 x more playable and was made 22 years ago
-
Hey at least Shenmue is loaded with humor and weird dialogue. NSMB is like having some weird dude shit on your face
-

I'd rate it a 7 but it's still an OK game.
-

that's not even remotely funny
-
NSMB and SMB2 are the only Mario games that I feel are subpar. I pretty much love every single other one (other than those Game Boy ones, but I don't really consider them part of the main Mario series). For whatever reason, I couldn't put down Sunshine when I got it, and the secret levels were fuck awesome.
-
YOU DO NOT SPEAK ILL OF SMB2
-
It's still better than NSMB.
-
I remember when Next Generation magazine named Mario 64 the greatest game of all time...like two months before it came out. :lol
-
YOU DO NOT SPEAK ILL OF SMB2
2 sucks balls. should never been made. We should have got lost levels instead.
-
Mario 64 blew my freaking mind when it came out. Classic game.

SMB2 is one of the best
-
I like SMB2, though it's not nearly as good as pretty much all the other 2D Marios.
mario 64 is a lastingly brilliant game that also killed platformers with its terrible ideas
Which terrible ideas? The collecting thing, I suppose might be one. But it's been in previous Mario games too.
-

Yea, I don't know how it can be "one of the best" when every other console 2D Mario is better.
-
SMB2 > SMB3
-
SMB2 > SMB3
:o :o :o
-
Which terrible ideas? The collecting thing, I suppose might be one. But it's been in previous Mario games too.
generally the shift from linear obstacle courses to multipurpose stages with a variety of tasks to complete. mario 64 was strong enough to keep this flawed structure together, but its success doesn't seem to be repeatable. crash bandicoot obviously wasn't in mario 64's ballpark, but i prefer its descendents to mario 64's -- super magnetic neo, the first sly cooper game
-
Crash 3 > Mario 64
-
Man, now I know why I've never particularly agreed with Drinky's gaming tastes.

smb3 had tiny, gimpy levels

Saves me writing two paragraphs to say the same thing.
Jet Grind Radio is the only other jungle-gym platformer I can think of that I really liked, but that was still built around the urgency rather than exploration or collection.
-
SMB2 is king f u

super mario world is the REAL smb3
I was with you on Unlimited Saga but now you've lost your mind :maf

Lost levels NES has some bad collision detection problems. I just slid though a totally erect pianta plant :o

mario 64 isn't trash but it's not nearly as good as people make it out to be.
sunshine is 10 x better
-
I loved Mario 64 and hated Sunshine. I lost interest in platformers between those two games, though. And Sunshine didn't have the benefit of being a new and exciting.
-
I seriously dont get the fucking hate for SMB2
-
SMB 3 is my absolute favorite till this day. Yoshi's Island on SNES is a close second. I really loved SMB2 and NSMB and I also don't get all the hate those two games get.
Now....Yoshi's Story was an absolute turd.
-
Super Mario World rocked hard, probably the best Mario game ever, along with SM64.
as for Sunshine, it sucked shit.

I seriously dont get the fucking hate for SMB2
Again, I don't hate it, but I didn't like it as much as the other Mario platformers due to the lack of power ups, and didn't particularly care for that frog guy at the end.
Also,
World
3
64
NSMB
YI (if you wanna count it)
Sunshine
2
SMB (maybe)
Edit: And as long as there are more people posting here than in the other Mario thread, watch these videos!

hating SMB2 is criminal
-
Isn't SMB2 not even a real Mario? I think SMB3 is much better even if SMB2 can be considered a true Mario game.
-
SMB2 is a charming fucking game
-
Mario 64 was great, but it seems kind of quaint by todays standards.
Mario Sunshine was good. Disappointing in comparison to Mario 64 in that it didn't really bring anything new to the table, but as of today, 2007, it's probably the better game of the two since it's aged well graphically and its stages aren't tiny, which is way too evident when one plays 64 these days.
New Super Mario Brothers was good, but it's a difficult game to objectively judge. It's a great throwback to the classic games, but it's feeding just about totally off of nostalgia. If it had any title but New Super Mario Brothers, it would have been ignored, or raped by reviewers, due to its simplicity.
-
hating SMB2 is criminal
Don't get me wrong, I had fun playing it, its a good 7 to the other mario games being 9s and 10s, its just the worst mario game.
-
Its a good 10!
-
Its a good 10 - 3!
correct!

Pretty, but vacant.
-
64 is OK, but it's probably aged the worst out of all the classic Mario games.
Sunshine is still unbelievably awesome.

Pretty, but vacant.
You talking about Galaxy?

Yup.

NO SHUP
Watch that prologue video, it's omg
-
:lol
SMB2 is fucking awesome
SMB3 is overrated and colorless, but imaginative, very unfocused
SMW is the best "Mario" game
Yoshi's Island is the best game in the series and the definitive 2-d platformer ever created
NSMB must suck cause I was looking forward to it so long and I've played like 4 levels.
edit: I'm looking forward to playing Sunshine on my new tv, it looked a meshy mess on my old tv and I had to stop playing
-
super mario land for the gb was awesome, too. i could finish that game in ±15 minutes and the ending theme was so good.
