Today I went to get my haircut when this pretty girl came up, at least she was until she started talking. I kid you not she had a VERY big hick accent and sounded like a man. I couldn't believe it, now granted it's Oklahoma, but she's from the western part (I live in the north-east) so that probably has a lot to do with that, but I got to thinking what kind of accents we and people around us have. I grew up in Albuquerque till around 10 then moved here so I don't really know what kind of accent it would be called. People around here are pretty hick but not near where she was.

What kind of accent do you have, Synbios? Do you sound like a redneck? I sort of imagine you sounding like a redneck, but with some sort of bizarre speech impediment.

We talk like Negroes down here.

I talk with an extremely thick spanish accent and am constantly saying YO QUIERO CHIMICHANGAS and DONDE ESTA EL BURRITO to no one in particular. When I get upset, I say AY FRIJOLES! It's one of the charms of my ethnicity.

I have a wacky accent.
As most negroes tend to!

Apparently everyone in North California says "like" a lot. I never notice until I leave the state. Beats the hell out of having a drawl though.

I'll have you know, my information comes straight from Synbios, who is an expert on ethnic relations and ebonics. :tophat

I have a New Zealand accent, I have no idea how that sounds to anyone else. Australians think we pronounce 'Fish and Chips' as 'Fush and Chups' but whatevs. My accent has a more urban tinge, rural accents can be quite thick and tangy

I sound British.

I just sound regular.

My accent is similar to his, but more normal. Though after a couple of years living in a foreign country it apparantly sounds a bit strange when I go home, and becomes normal again after I talk with other Australians for a while.

Not talking to anyone is giving me speech impediments. Does that count?

I like to drink water from water bottles, but instead of finishing the drink and setting it back down, I keep the water bottle on my lips and then I let the water go into my throat, swallow, then drink more. From an outsider's point of view, it looks like the water bottle is some kind of water cooler at a workplace where all the tired, solemn employees fill up cups of water and chat about nothings like Karen's amazing rack or the TPS reports due next Friday or the big game on Sunday. In any case, bubbles from my mouth go up the water bottle to make it look like a water cooler. Its really awesome. If you're ever bored and want to make yourself be a human water cooler, chug some water.

Mid-western accent is just as much a accent as southern.
-
I have a nagging feeling Synbios is actually an internet bot sent by the US Census bureau
-
I have a typical Lawn Guyland accent, it's not very strong compared to some people around here, but it really sticks out when I go to other parts of the country.
-
This is how I talk:

My family is from North Carolina and mom tried to raise me to speak as a Southern Gentleman. But I grew up in southwest Oklahoma so I tend to have a hybrid cowboy/Southern accent. At least I don't talk like my relatives back east. My cousing Rex talks like the love child of Larry the Cable Guy and Forrest Gump.

I don't know, I don't think I have accent. I sound like whatever people from Western Washington sound like...

By Yankee, do you mean New York/East Coast accent, or the super flat midwest/northwest accent?
-
I like how people from the mid-west (including myself, Ohio is where I was raised) don't think their accent is an accent. Just because it is "flat" doesn't make it less of an accent.

We have the same "accent" out here in Western Washington. It sounds like "nothing" to me, it doesn't have anything unique to it.

What's that website where you can leave phone messages? We should all do that again and determine who has the worse accent
