Title: Save me from rpgs, Help me choose some action games
Post by: The Sceneman on October 04, 2007, 06:55:47 PM
Okay Ive been playing nothing but Rpgs lately, I need some action and shit. Just picked up Bully and God of War, apparently God of War is pretty easy and Ive got a feeling Bully is going to be boring as fuck (I got it because it was cheap and got good reviews, I liked The Warriors so I thought Id give it a shot.) But yeah Im gonna need more great playing 'ammo'

Hot contenders that Im seriously considering:

Psychonauts
Super Papes (although Is this an action game? I hear its just more paper mario rpg stuff)
Warriors Orochi
Call of Duty 3 (for Wii lolz)
Sin and Punishment

But yeah more suggestions would be appreciated. I have a Wii and a PS2, getting a 360 next month

If you are getting a 360, get NGB with it.

it plays perfectly, very well emulated and it's one of the best action games to date.

Psychonauts is nice too.

Yes, DMC1 aged terribly in graphics, but it is still amazing.

how about the onimusha series?

Ive only played 3, (to completion too) I thought it was pretty good. The others worth checking out?

The other 2 aren't as "free" as the third

You could try Dawn of Dreams, the fourth one

2 is more free though.

1 is very short, so no harm in checking it out.

4 play like a RPG, you can level up the characters and their weapons.

i liked the first onimusha more than the third. i can remember thinking the atmosphere was better, and back then it was more impressive. not sure if it held up well tho.

the second onimusha was my favorite. everything was better than on the other ones.

the third was pretty mediocre. less characters than the second, the character switching thing was lame, that fairy thing or whatever was annoying and it was too easy. this one required too many orbs to max out all the weapons too iirc, so i had to grind a little in the evil palace or whatever it was called.

i only played the fourth one briefly at a friend's house, but i didn't like it. it was like a poor man's devil may cry instead of a better resident evil.

as for other suggestions, i'd say zoe2 and kingdom hearts. kh is more action than rpg. i like it, but if you can't get past the disney characters, it isn't for you.

Out of your list I'd go for Sin and Punishment myself.

Yes, Oni1 atmosphere is so RE, if you like that, then get it.

i played it recently on the 360, graphics still look good, pre-rendered graphics age pretty well.

good call, Ive finished KH1 and enjoyed it. Ive been meaning to check out KH2 for a while.

Do you have Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner? I've been playing it on and off for the past 2 weeks. It lives up to all the GAF hype.

Zone of the Enders games are good stuff, if a bit short.

I'll vouch for Onimusha 1 and 2.  I really liked the 1st 3 games but the 4th one was just too much.  Capcom should have stopped milking it after the 3rd game.  Here are some other suggestions: Prince of Persia 3:The Two Thrones, Rygar, Tomb Raider:Anniversary.  The LOTR games are pretty good action games too, especially if you're a LOTR fan.   I assumed that you've tried MGS3.  If not, you need to get Subsistence

Warriors Orochi is fucking fun as hell, and is the most "pure" action game out of all the ones you listed.

But just to make sure, did you play Godhand yet?

If the answer to this question is no, forget about everything else and get this game NOW.

Crackdown if you can get someone to play it with you co op online.  Ferricide and I had a blast plowing through the campaign online.  We're probably the only two people who didn't buy it for the Halo 3 beta and played more Crackdown than we'll end up playing Halo 3.
Ninja Gaiden Black is the best action game to date (I say this without having played Sigma though).
God of War 2 is super easy and button mashy, but if you know what you're doing it's that much better.

God Hand is amazing, I couldnt put it down until I finished it. It's one of my favourite games ever, so damn good. Hard mode is a joke though, I couldnt even take down the first few goons. Done the MGS series as well. Pumped up for MGS4. Its coming to the 360 right?

Is saying this still an insta-ban at GAF?  I bet TVC has given out such lame ass bans before.

As lame and stupid as that is, try to focus on this forum instead of another one.   ;)
