Boondocks tonight!!! :D It's been a year and damn half since the last season! I can't wait!
-
this show is completely hit and miss for me. sometimes it's hilarious, sometimes it's just annoying. i will watch.
-
I liked every single episode except the one where they go for Oprah.
Miss the comics like, so much. I read the first Boondocks comics book like at least once a month. <3 SMH @ Aaron McGruder for cancelling the comic strip for the tv show. SMH. Typical distinguished black fellow.

You could have watched it here two days ago:

-
I could have. I usually rip the episodes straight from the adult swim site, but I don't have fucking internet. I'm having comcast come over today.
-
okay. the new boondocks was okay. the entire movie shit was hilarious but the huey kung fu bruce leroy wannabe shit has got to stop.
soul plane 2 :lol
where the fuck am Caesar?
-
The only funny part was when Huey said that lynchings are not funny, and his grandfather said that wasn't always true... prompted by a flashback to a humorous lynching.
-
The entire episode was funny.
"A lil half n half!"
I've heard my grandma say that before :lol
-
No, it was not really funny. I guess black people find it funny, because, "Hey, it's one of us making fun of us - lol!" Much like the grandfather said while watching Soul Plane 2. I think it's just stupid, but - hey! - stereotypes rule!
Racial humor is only funny nowadays when it pushes the boundaries, like the lynching gag. Everything else is cliche, safe and just boring.
-
"A lil half n half!"
rofl
Jazmine <3
-
Caveman has funnier black jokes than Boondocks
-
The hilarious thing about this episode weren't even the black jokes. Pay attention.
"nicca you gay!" :lol
The "STEALING MOVIES IS AS BAD AS MURDERING SOMEONE" commercials, and them making Jazmine cry
Jazmine crying and grandpa laughin.
"I'm gonna stop this plane....or die tryin!" :lol
-
I wasn't referring to the episode
Pay attention
-
I was talking to Willco. Pay attention.
-
Dude, none of the things you mentioned were funny, save for the STEALING MOVIES IS LIKE MURDER (which did solicit a chuckle!). And one of the jokes you mentioned is a "black joke", as they were mocking 50 Cent (omg he says dat all teh time its so rofl!).
The episode was not funny. The show is totally hit or miss, and it's relatively easy to figure out that anyone gives it universal praise is black (omg aaron is one of us watch him mock us lol!).

I've never agreed with you more in my life.
-
Willco said it wasn't funny. It must be true.

I'm pretty sure most of them aren't black.
-
I dunno. I think that to *get* most of the jokes you gotta be black. Especially when it comes to the early strips, because you know someone who acts like that.
in the strips, Jazmine refuses to admit she's black because her mom is white. Huey says she's got an afro, so she's black. Jazmine refers to herself as "mixed" and her family tries to straighten her hair so it's not so negro-fried. lol Most white people won't find that hilarious but I am positive almost every black person has met a person like that
-
Man, this pisses me off. I want to read the early strips but I can't find them archived ANYWHERE. Ucomics used to have all of them but they've been renamed to GoComics and don't have them anymore. GAHGAHGAHGAHGAHGAHGA.

i grew up in that environment. Hell, my sister didn't start "acting black" until she was like 12 or so. And it happened in like 2 or 3 days when she met her black boyfriend Chris in Tennessee. She was really confused at that age.
Maybe that's why I don't find it funny. That's extremely damaging mentally.

That defines this show in a nutshell.

well that i can understand

There is nothing wrong with the show but Himuro you are right when you say you kind of have to be black to get the jokes. I've tried watching it a few times but...eh. It's just not a show for the demi in us all.

I counter that with a BETTER OR FOR WORSE

That's your opinion. Here's mine
I find the humor in how the stereotypes are treated. It's not a "black people act like this" type affair in the vein of Mencina for instance. I love how each one is analyzed from 3 or more perspectives - Huey's, Granddad's, Jasmine's, etc. And then there's the little things - for instance last night, everyone in the audience outside of the main characters were white, and none of them were laughing at Soul Plane 2.
It also helps that I "know" Hueys and Jasmines and Grandads in real life, and some of them are family members. I've heard that to fully "get" Sienfeld it helps to be Jewish; I'd say Boondocks has a similar effect with blacks, imo.

You pretty much confirmed Willco's position that you need to "know" these characters, and to know people like that you tend to have to be black.
And Seinfeld I don't think is a valid argument jewish wise. It is valid that you have to be white to fully GET seinfeld. Seinfeld is not about Jews. George, Elaine, and Kramer are not jews. Seinfeld is about being white and white neuroticism. It is comparable in that way, not jewish. Curb Your Enthusiasm on the other hand is all jew jew jew.

Patty is funnier - rambling lesbians always know how to crack a smile out of me

I agree with Willco to an extent, but I don't agree that you HAVE to be black to find the show funny or get its humor. The surface humor alone is usually funny enough to garner laughs. I like the show for the deeper humor and social commentary.
-
wait, did they symbolize distinguished mentally-challenged with putting in a bunch of random ellipses?
-
There were perhaps two things that made me really laugh:
1) Black people not having internet because they're too dumb, even using a mac.
2) Marxist commentary in the hallway between the usher and the other employees.
The rest was pretty subpar.

Fuck no. I'm glad Boondocks takes the approach that they do. We've seen what happens with shows that push the boundries, and one of them's called 'Mind of Mencia'. No fucking thanks.
And I don't think you have to be black to 'get' this show. Sure, some jokes you do, but from what I've seen, most of it is just fine for other races as well.
