given that the 360 version has an 80% or better chance of having better graphics, better internet play with more users (for online games), achievements, earlier availability, and rumble/feedback support?
really, anyone who buys the ps3 version over the 360 version (unless for some bizarre reason the inferior ps3 hardware manages to have better visuals) is a total chump. you know who you are. (see: orange box)

Check how Mondain completely dodges me in this thread when I call him out. I love the guy but his trolling is ridiculous because he still maintains that he's unbiased. ::)
-
cut-and-paste -- i don't have an account there.
-
While I have no ill will towards the 360, and plan on sneaking one into my TV purchase in February, my best friend only has a PS3 and refuses to get a 360, so I'll be getting the PS3 version of Orange Box for TF2 online play. He lives in Hawaii and I don't get to see him often, so playing online together is a good chance to "hang out."
-
I usually get 360 version because of how awesome the controller is, for my hands anyway.
-
Someone on OA made a thread about how the 360 version was rumored to be 1080p native and Jo jo responds with...
man it sure is downgraded and looks like shit
wtf, jo jo?
seriously. you call yourself unbiased but yet you jump on a bandwagon to hate on something which is obviously good news! no matter which way you fucking spin this, this is good.
how the FUCK is one of the best games of all time running at 1080p a bad thing in any way?
no, ya know what. back your shit up for once. show me how it's downgraded. please.
it's Eurogamer FUD
Half-Life 2 360 is downgraded and looks like shit, period
X3DO is doomed
Keep in mind that no pics were posted in the thread! His reply was the first too.
-
He probably downloaded it... lol
-
He probably downloaded it... lol
He didn't even bother to respond. He ignored it and kept on trolling. When someone calls him out he just ignores it.
-
AHUAHUA FUD FROM CAMP SONY
-
What's sad is that when I ask him to back it up he just ignores it and posts more BS later in the thread. And so I call him on it AGAIN and he ignores it... AGAIN.
-
lol, these answers weren't serious, the only reason I posted like that was to ape Mackey's way of sabotaging my threads as of late
I was about to leave for an english exam and was looking to relieve the tension :lol
-
it depends - some games are better on PS3...and right now that number is small compared to how many are better on X360.
multiplat titles that is.
I bought Orange Box for X360 today.
And finally - PS3 is better designed/built hardware.
-
blu ray
-
I was about to leave for an english exam and was looking to relieve the tension :lol
I usually rub one out instead
-
and now, why some people prefer PS3 versions of games in select cases or in all cases
-They don't care about rumble
-They don't care about online gaming
-They don't want to pay for online gaming
-They don't care for/don't like achievements
-They prefer the Dual Shock/Sixaxis
-They want to buy games for a system that will still be in perfect working condition in ten years after incessant use
-They find that now most PS3/360 games look pretty identical save for the anti-aliasing
-Most of all, they hate the 360's loudness when playing DVD-based games and find it immensely annoying
-
10 years? i will be playing my Xbox 720 by then.
-

Mondain humps a door knob.
-
i'd be shocked if the majority of ps3s were in working condition 10 years from now
shocked
-
hardcore hardware stress tests have shown the system to be quasi-indestructible, even in the harshest conditions, so it's pretty much a given
-
I base my choices on lead SKUs. I'm definitely getting Burnout for the PS3 as Criterion stated that it's the lead SKU.
These are the following multi-platform games that are up in the air for me.
Soul Calibur 4 (VF Stick is so much better than anything on the 360)
RE5 (Too early to see if this looks better)
DMC4 (Ditto)
GTA4 (Ditto. There are some rumors that the higher capacity of BRD may improve game performance)
But for most gamers, at this point the 360 is the best system out right now. No question. And this coming from a long time Sony and Nintendo fan.
-
I'll get the Windows versions of Capcom games
-
The ONLY game that I will accept a "better on PS3" argument for is Dirt.
That's about it folks. Vegas had a chance until online became a laggy mess of hell.
-
I'll get the Windows versions of Capcom games
Why? Your PC choked on whatever you tried to feed it in your earlier thread.
-
Do you have a 360, Mondain? Also, Rygar, was not DMC4 originally a PS3 exclusive, and as such lead SKU?
-
DiRT isn't better on the PS3, though -- it has reduced trackside detail, reduced HDR, and reduced shadowing effects. The sole upside is an fps average that is closer to 30, although it's probably a delta of 1-2 fps between versions, tops. oh, and the PS3 version has no feedback support (in a rally game, no less)
-
DMC4 wasn't a PS3 exclusive -- it was announced in Japan first, where nobody cares about the 360. DMC4 is, as I recall, being built off a variant of the Dead Rising engine, which was ported to the PS3.
-
You mean the Framework engine?
-
in those rare cases where the ps3 version isn't fucked up, i prefer the ps3's accurate gamma and hdmi output (360 via component is visibly noisier on my tv, particularly in dark areas). i haven't got any multiplatform games on ps3 yet, but i might go with the ps3 versions of sega rally and cod4
and some capcom developer (kobayashi?) mentioned in a recent interview that they started work on the 360 version of dmc4 around the time it was announced. gafers say that capcom's framework engine games are built for the pc first, but who knows if that's true
-
why the ps3 version of cod4? is infinity ward even handling that port? the 360 is the lead sku on it.
-
ps3 and 360 versions are supposed to be totally identical -- or so some infinity ward guy says on gaf, and impressions from a recent event back him up. infinity ward are doing the ps3 version, and apparently went as far as to do a ps3 version of cod2 as a sort of dry run. i get the impression that ps3 requires more developer effort for similar results -- dodgy versions of multiplatform games will probably continue
-
given, though, that most of cod4's appeal comes from multiplayer support, wouldn't you rather use live?
-
the online beta actually didn't grab me at all. i'd rather play halo. and the ps3 version is supposed to have the same online setup anyway
...i'm really just buying it for the framerate. :-\
-
...i'm really just buying it for the framerate. :-\
haha, same, sadly. that and the gun porn.
-
i vowed to only buy ps3 exclusives and reserved all multiplat games for the 360. though I did buy a second copy of skate for the ps3 as well since i've got a buddy who works at EA. achievements + the fact all my friends own 360s keeps me from buying ps3 ports.
-
yeah, drohne mentionned another advantage of PS3 gaming, the HDMI output that the PS3 has is absolutely marvelous, especially with a specific option from the XMB that allows for some sort of "full range" HDMI, making the colors a lot better
-
the full range option is great. MS really needs to copy that feature.
-
Mondain can't handle the 360.

-
:lol I don't give a shit about bullshit comments like this, but the other day I tried the flickering PSP video on my HDTV and stared at it for about 1h30 straight without breaking a sweat or anything, in order to get rid of a dead pixel
-
Mondain, please leave. You give sane, level-headed PS3 owners a bad name.
-
pwned
-
if both games were to be identical and i'd own both a ps3 and a 360, i'd take the ps3 version because i prefer the ds controller.
-
i'd be shocked if the majority of ps3s were in working condition 10 years from now
shocked
yeah WTF, how can you argue that a PS3 will still be working in 10 years time when the console has been out for one fucking year? My PS1 and my 1st PS2 both crapped out after a couple of years
-

lol wut
And to answer the thread question, Im guesssing that since theres nothing to play on PS3, some peeps opt for the PS3 version of a multiplat to somehow validate their shitty purchase
-
oh right
-
the 'rgb full range' option isn't appropriate for most tvs, though some will handle it properly. it's meant for pc monitors. if you're using it, load up this image on your ps3 and make sure you're seeing at least ten of the twelve grey boxes: http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07413/Brightness.jpg
if you can make all the boxes appear by adjusting your tv's brightness, you're fine with rgb full range. otherwise you'll want to use the 'limited' setting -- rgb full range is just crushing a ton of shadow detail, and while you may like the resulting contrasty image, IT'S FUCKING WRONG

Mondain owns himself better than anyone.
:rofl

Thanks for the pic. I'll check with it to see which settings I should use on my TV. Usually, I have the PS3 set to full RGB with my mon and limited RGB with the TV. I was going to mention this issue but you did it much more concisely than I could.
-
the full range option makes everything look loads better on my Bravia
-
full range shouldn't make the picture look 'loads better' on a tv -- ideally it should just produce slightly smoother gradations between light and dark. if you're seeing a big difference, it's either because you need to turn your brightness up to compensate for rgb full range, or because it's the wrong format for your tv. load up that image i've posted -- i've got a bravia as well, and it doesn't handle rgb full range properly.

OK then, I'll load up the pic on a memory stick and try it out

As so many other people said, because I don't live in constant fear that playing my PS3 will break it and I'll have to wait 6 weeks for replacement.
