Title: My final significant Orange Box 360 complaint. . .
Post by: TVC15 on October 11, 2007, 10:10:08 PM
I noticed this last night, but I wasn't going to mention it because it could have been any number of things.  Today, I got confirmation:  Orange Box on 360 makes me nauseous.

I just puked up my lunch.  Valve owes me for a chicken sandwich and a bax of soy nuts.  Last night I quit before I tossed, but that shit made me erupt today.  After I puked up in the toilet, I felt a bit better, so about 10 minutes later I returned to the game. . .and promptly got sick within a few minutes.

This happened in both HL2 (last night) and Portal.  It should be noted that the physics wackiness in Portal does not make me nauseous.  I can handle the mind bendiness like a pro.

:/

Whats the reason for this? Is it a perspective issue or framerate? I remember getting sick playing Black on the PS2. Not chuck up yesterdays Chinese Food sick but I did get a lil' green. I hope I don't get this way with Orange Box

No idea.  Last game that made me vomitus sick was Marathon on 360.  Orange Box games on PC are fine.

I'll just make him play the 360 version of Orange Box.  The food will literally come spraying from him.

no such problems here, the only games that ever make me feel somewhat dizzy are the Ace Combat games

also I find that even with a few improvements, the Source engine is very dated, and that every game in the Orange Box looks awful, especially Half-Life 2

Don't worry, every game will suddenly look like prismatic Jesus Jizz once Orange Box hits PS3, right Mondain

Okay, one more complaint:  The lack of AA really makes Portal look lousy.  It's more like running through a cheese grater than a series of portals.

I think Portal actually looks pretty good on Xbox 360.

yeah, the lack of AA isn't helping the games either

although I was surprised to see that Half-Life 2 still has incredibly good texturing, all the rest is pretty dated

Try some new material, Mundane. Your bullshit is getting pretty dated,.

I think even on the PC, where HL2 looks significantly better, it's the textures, not the tech, that is allowing the game to age gracefully.  Episode 1 (and I am assuming 2) have more pretty graphical tricks up their sleeve.  HL2 just has impeccable visual design.

Portal has really good, consistent visual design, too, but it's hurt more by the lack of AA because it's more of an exercise in visual minimalism, which means you are paying more attention to the edges of things, which due to the lack of AA are the worst looking part of the package.

You could cut a steak with those serrated edges in Portal!  Just be ready to puke it up after you're done eating it!

I can't really control the nausea bit.  But about the visuals?  I'll call a shoddy port a shoddy port.

Don't worry, TVC. I still love you.

We can throw up due to FPS induced nausea TOGETHER.

I have never gotten sick from a game - I love Marathon and Orange Box.

A guy I work with has this problem tho - he cant play any FPS.
