One of the better scenes from that movie.
A Scanner Darkly is okay at best though.

i don't know why i haven't seen this yet. there's something fascinating about movie adaptations of seemingly unfilmable books. i like waking life and linklater's stuff generally. and there's even a blu gay version -- you wouldn't believe some of the crap i've watched just cos it's in high def

It looks really good on blu ray, too.
I like Richard Linklater a lot, and while this is a Linklater film through and through, what with the plot taking a backseat to inspired dialogue-based scenes, it kind of fails as an adaptation. Like drohne said, the book is kind of unfilmable, and when it does have to give a fuck about the plot, it kinda fails. The talkie scenes with Robert Downey, Woody, and Rory cochrane are all fucking gold, though, and worth the price of admission.
It's definitely about a hundred times better than Waking Life.

oh yeah: i've also just realized that i love robert downey jr. thanks to kiss kiss bang bang. which i only watched because it's in high-def -- i'm usually leery of HIP TRANSGRESSIVE GANGSTER MOVIES NOT ENTIRELY UNLIKE PULP FICTION. thanks for once, blu gay

I need to see this movie now. That scene was hilarious.
Unfortunately, the story is in neither of the PKD collections I recently bought.
I need to see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang too.

go see this movie you tards

Yeah, Cajole, A Scanner Darkly is a novel. It's definitely one of PKD's best, but you'll appreciate it more if it's not the first thing you read by him. It's still science fiction, but it's more personal and autobiographical than any of his other stuff, so having an appreciation for the writer makes it more enjoyable.

Wait, you mean I'm not the only one who thinks Waking Life is shitty? :o

Well, one of the collections I got is composed of four novels, none of them happen to be A Scanner Darkly, though. Anyhow, I'll be sure to read it after I go through the books I just bought. Would you recommend reading the novel before seeing the movie?
