Oh, and because everyone brings it up, I do read books, I'm currently reading paradise lost by milton.

No games from the western market I've played had any characters show any real emotion (I haven't played Half-Life 2 but I'm tempted now), so while most jRPGs may "fail" at it at least they are trying.

I don't know about emotions, excellent writing or whatever he said but Xenogears 2nd disc is the most awful shit in vidya gaems history.

he's sorta right in that, while most of the times japanese game storylines come off as incredibly cheesy and corny, western gaming storylines and characters are in most cases, extremely sterile and dull in comparison... must be a matter of cultural taste

The difference is in this thread we are making fun of a gaffet, we're not taking the typical gaffot/opa mentality and smeering it all over the board.
