Alright, this isn't a rumble bitchfest or a waggle complaint depot. I have 2 inarguable, easily enumerable complaints.
1) Why is the USB cable that comes with the PS3 only like 3 feet long? THIS IS 4D! We have giant fucking Sony TVs for our 600 dollar Sony Playstation 3s. We can't be sitting 3 feet away from them! USB cables are cheaper than them nasty chickenheads you see on First HIll. WTF.
Of course, that wouldn't be a problem if. . .
2) Why do the fucking PS3 batteries have a battery life of like less than 20 hours? I just fucking charged the god damned thing 2 days ago and it's already dead again. Only the shitty Wiimote goes through batteries faster.
-
you forgot problem number 3.
The L2 and R2 buttons are AWFUL. If they wanted to go with triggers, why did they make such HALF ASSED ones?
-
don't forget the signal drops -- i just play with the pad plugged in :-\
i actually like the broad triggers. the thin dreamcasty ones cramp my fingers. my fingers kind of slip off the sixaxis triggers, though -- they ought to be shaped a bit differently
-
Yeah, this is obviously an incomplete list. These are just the winners of the day for being the first ones I encountered. But if I zip back about a half dozen hours, I can also add
3) Why does the controller so frequently get "stuck?" I believe this is associated with signal issues, but it's especially annoying when the game gets stuck (say, running in one direction, uncontrollably), and you don't even get the handy dandy "There is no controller connected" autopause screen. I lost a fucking miniboss fight because of that last night.

Issue 3 happened to me a few days ago when I was playing Resistance (only for trolling purposes) when suddenly my aim was completely off and I was spinning around in a circle. That happens to me almost every time I play that game which is not too often. How the hell can you go online when you can't even rely on the controller to work properly?
My controller also seems to drain batteries pretty fast but that's not a big deal to me since it can be charged on a PC. I do hate those shitty triggers that Himuro mentioned. Neither Resistance nor GTHD use those triggers as gas/throttle or shooting which show how useless they are. I hope Sony will fix those shitty triggers although that probably won't happen since they're most conservative with control pad design.
With regards to the short cable, hey, at least they gave one. The short USB cable was a lot more useful than the composite video cable that was bundled.

To be fair, the battery situation is shitty all around this generation.
The Wiimote eats batteries for breakfast. Good thing there's only been one good reason to turn the system on this year so far.
The 360, while okay on battery life, isn't rechargeable out of the box. Admittedly, this wasn't a huge problem for me because I can get play and charge kits cheap, but it's still shitty to make that an add-on. I guess this goes for Nintendo, too.
The PS3 controller does allow you to recharge out of the box. This is countered by the controller being total rubbish in every other category, aside from layout.
-
Anyone who buys those play and charge kits or whatever Microsoft sells is pretty stupid. Rechargeable batteries FTW.
-
I'm wondering if someone could help me with an issue with the PS3 controller, since I have to play with my feet all the controllers are on the ground but the PS3s bottom triggers always end up hitting the ground which messes me up, any ideas how to fix this?

i bought one and three batteries :'(
-
I should've added "or has a ton of disposable income." :P
-
Well, there is no perfect controller but i can't believe how fucked up the triggers are, my fingers fucking slip all the time with them.
and i like how light the controller is, but i'd choose changeable batteries over weight any day (assuming here the PS3 battery design make it lighter).
-
BECAUSE IT'S MADE BY SONY LAWLZ!
I don't know, actually. I haven't even played a demo station for the PS3 yet. I really should try it out tomorrow at work.
-
Sixaxis signal drops are such a pain in the ass. It happened to me while trying to top my high score in Super Stardust HD and I wanted to throw the thing against the wall.
-
Who else is playing Folklore here? I swear to god that Folklore seems worse as far as controller issues go than any other game. I had no problems earlier this week with Everyday Shooter and the R&C demo, but Folklore is giving me all sorts of issues.
Over the past hour, I have had 2 disconnects and a couple other issues with responsiveness.

OMG this controller sounds like a fucking nightmare. A good wireless pad cant be that hard to make surely? I mean wavebird batteries last forever and the pad never cuts out

I dunno, i think it's because they are using the same design with just little changes (lol triggers).
i think if they had changed it completely, it wouldn't be as bad, but then again, wtf do i know.

That's because wavebird uses RF signals. Sony didn't want to put in a RF or infrared receiver into the PS3 so everything uses bluetooth and bluetooth normally gets those cut-outs every 20 minutes or so.
-
Eh, not true, am. I have been using Bluetooth shit fairly extensively the past year, and the only thing I ever have any issue with is my bluetooth headset when used in conjunction with my phone. On the PC it is fine, too, so I think that is a cell phone thing.
Bluetooth used to be janky as fuck, but it's decent now, if not perfect.
-
I remember Blimblim saying that Bluetooth is great for transferring files, but not with controllers.
something about interference he said, too many routers, and other devices lying around messing up with the PS3 signal.
-
yeah, wii uses bluetooth too but there's something wrong with the PS3's (I heard something about interference) so I'm guessing it's the receiver in the PS3 that has the problems?
-
Has any other gen ever been this bad when it came to hardware problems?
-

Um... no? The Play and Charge cable is long enough to sit back, and when its charged you can play wirelessly.
-
I only have a play-and-charge kit because it came in the bundle. the good thing is that you can put the rechargeable pack in one controller and play with no battery and just the play-and-charge cable with the other. After you finish playing split-screen, just put the battery back in the controller with the charging cable and put it in until it's charged all the way then take it out.
-
the signal drops alone make it the worst controller ever. seriously, WTF is up with that shit. i still get them to this day.
