Title: UPDATE: Okami Wii CONFIRMED (spring release)
Post by: Ruzbeh on October 17, 2007, 04:20:19 PM
According to Jeuxactu / wiiz.fr

I'm calling BS on this one. The sources are too weird.

But today Capcom announced Street Fighter 4, too. You never know...

If its true very few, if anyone at all, from the original will be involved. They all hated the idea of putting it on the Wii

The game probably wouldn't work too well on the Wii, to be completely honest.  The drawing shit wasn't really a major part of the game, and that's the only reason people ever said OMG WII about the game.

So, let's see here. A game that, while awesome, sold poorly on a system that had a userbase a hundred times larger than the Wii...

If you never owned a PS2 (what the hell is wrong with you?!?), I can see this being good news... I guess.

the developers said in an egm interview that a) the game would not work well on the wii due to the wii's button layout; and b) they thought the wii hardware was crap.

The drawing would not work well on wii. Wiimote is too big to compliment the relaxing controls of Okami.

Would be funny if this was announced just to see the inevitable riot that breaks out in NeoGAF.

I still haven't opened my PS2 copy of the game up yet. :P

I don't think it would really be a riot.  Moreso a lot of people eating crow because they didn't think this would happen.  The game really doesn't have the fanbase for a full-on riot.

Yeah, but that's not going to happen.  The game isn't getting remade because they want to remake it, it's getting made because the original kinda bombed and they can still make money off the original without making new assets.

Monster hunter didn't really have a fanbase there and yet GAF exploded over that one.

That was the case of one of the most successful franchises of the PS2 gen defecting though.  Even if it wasn't popular anywhere but Japan, it's still a big deal.

I guess Okami is simple enough that the casual type people would be able to fair well enough in it. This just comes off as a pointless cash grab to me.  ::)

Actually, maybe they should try to improve Okami.  It's one of those rare cases where it would probably be a better game if a significant portion of its lengthy, pretty-but-boring intro had a coat hanger jabbed into it.

Also, and this is probably a pipe dream and will be impossible due to the Wii's shitty RAM:  I wish the closed arena combat would go away.  The way the bubble sphere would pop up during every random encounter.  It wasn't exactly a downer, but it kinda hurt the feeling of scope.

TVC has it right: the brush isn't utilized much outside boss fights until your arsenal of strokes builds up and that really isn't until the games closure.  I suspect they're going to add in waggle attacks a la Twilight Princess to make up for this. :x

Who cares. Only Wiitards would be so desperate to play a year old ps2 game that's budget priced. Oh wait, Wiitards don't have ps2s!

Okami Brushes with Wii this Spring
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163761

Capcom officially announces rumored port.
By Steve Watts, 10/18/2007
After yesterday's leak gaping hole from the Capcom press event in London, it seemed like all the nifty surprises had been ruined. But wait, one more!
As reported by Eurogamer, Capcom announced at their London media briefing that their critical darling Okami would be making its way onto Wii in Spring 2008. Also worth noting: Quartermann totally called it.

For those uninitiated to the game, the former PlayStation 2-exclusive title was often compared to Zelda for its combination of action, platforming and puzzles, and saw the hero Amaterasu painting brush strokes on the screen for combat and puzzles. Seems like an obvious fit for Wii, doesn't it? There will also be motion-controlled attacks.

We have a man on the floor of the London event, so as soon as the embargo lifts, you'll hear all the details from him.

How will you being able to draw bombs with Wiimote. Drawing is completely different from making simple gestures like in Twilight Princess. If pulling off the shield move in the Wii version of TP is impossible, I don't how the hell they'll be able to make Okami's drawing work.

I don't understand why you think the drawing would be even remotely difficult.  The game pauses, you draw a half-shitty circle and stick a line in it.  What is it about the waggle wand that makes this hard?

I'll probably pick it up since I never picked it up for PS2, just borrowed it.

The game's pretty good, it's only a step lower than Twilight Princess IMO, and it has a lot of classic Capcom staples, such as fighting the same bosses several fucking times. Believe me, you get pretty goddamn good at fighting Orochi.

Oh GTFO. :-\ I fucking hated that about Viewtiful Joe. What the fuck is this shit? I hate recycled shit like that.

Mega Man era - worked because the bosses kicked ass
This gen - FUCKERS, BE MORE ORIGINAL.

Make the battles occur in the overworld instead of transitioning to a battlefield, and make the drawing work as soon as you point at the screen or in some way quickly and I may finish this version.

:bow Okami :bow

Yes, not all of us are autistic.  BTW, you could have played it on PS2 along time ago if you weren't so blinded by your love of system wars.

I thought the staff from Clover broke off from Capcom.  So I would assume that not all the original team is on this.
all that equals Remake am Total.
Right?

Ruzzy woulda liked Okami, Ico and Katamari if he had a ps3.  Or at least, given Nintendo gaming tastes, he would have liked those games.

I do look forward to playing Okami with a proper analog stick though! Fuck the ds2 stick!

I can't find Okami in any stores, but I still don't want a shitty half-assed port.
