I'm looking to hopefully relocate to the west coast in a couple of years. I just wanted to ask the evilbore community about it. I'm originally from NYC and have basically spend my entire life here. I love it here, but I would like to expand my horizons and move to the west coast. I don't want to fall in the trap of generalizations, but everyone I've known from the west coast is always so chill and laid back. NYC can be very rushed and hectic. If I do move I will miss public transportation, its not best or the cleanest, but it does it job and the cultural diversity
Does anyone here have any frame of reference regarding both areas?
-
California is culturally diverse, but the public transit does suck. I can't compare though as I have hardly spent any time on the east coast.
-
love the west coast, born and raised in california. right now it's sunny and warm. can't beat the weather out here, especially in northern cali.
people here are very chill and laid back as long as you're not on the freeway or in a car. public transportation is definitely ass here, expect to buy/lease a car. for the most part, california is diverse culturally. where i'm from, the bay area, it's pretty much a melting pot like new york. it's great because of the variety of food available and if you're single, lots of hot chicks to go around. i'd say my biggest complaint is rush hour traffic and the abundance of police everywhere. but hey, if you wanna feel safe, it's a good thing.

live in Austin. The housing is fair and the town is beautiful. Its small enough to not be a big city, yet it has many things a large city like L.A. has. We have a strong local sports team, the Longhorns. We have an awesome music scene and a decent film scene.
-
And a decent game development scene, although it is mostly MMOs.
-
West Coast has the best beer.

we have some great wine too. :)
-
blah keep ur wine
-
One time I went on a red wine binge and I soaked my mattress through with vomit.
-
some of my worst drunken experiences have been with red wine. it's the devil's blood.
-
Carlo Rossi spanked me many times as a young teen. :(
-
red wine has given me many great ideas
-
Caligula has given me many great ideas.
-
He did find a way to raise money without taxes.
-
At the risk of the lard budget going through the roof, though.
-
Portland's not bad.
-
the bay area's probably the most like NYC. in san francisco, there's a decent public transportation system. southern california around LA is too big for me. are you going to school or working right now?
-
I work right now. I graduated college three years ago.

oh, housing prices will probably start to go down but I think they're comparable to NYC.
-
i heard a lot of black people live in L.A.
-
Seattle is awesome.
-
Lived in the east coast all my life and I absolutely love it out west, well the few times I've visited (LA, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver)... friendlier people, more opportunities for recreation/outdoorsy stuff, and a bit more modern and less grittier than NYC.
-
no offense to anybody that lives there, but LA is honestly the least interesting part of california.
-
I'm heading out to Chicago in January for a week, then going to L.A. for a week afterwards. Turning 21, whoop whoop!

If I had to live anywhere else in the US, it would probably be Austin. I've heard so many good things about there.
-
West Coast for life.
Better food, women, mountains, etc etc. And no shitty racist Bostonians.

I don't think I could deal with being surrounded by the rest of Texas.

I would only be 2 short hours away. we could see each other every weekend.

Dallas is full of messicans and white-washed black people.

I had a crazy rich girlfriend from Dallas in college. :-* :-[ :-*
Does she live in Texas now? :-* :-*
-
No, she's in med school in DC. I'll hook you up if she moves back.
awesome. keep me posted.
I'll have hit the jackpot with an MD

You can quit your job and live off her salary - you'll make your Mexican ancestors proud.
-
She was rich enough that the doctor's salary would be incidental. :o
Uhm, why'd you guys break up, if you don't mind my asking? She sounds like a catch (unless having money made her a spoiled, bratty bitch).
-
i would have banked on her and left with her fine ass.
is she fine? tell me she is.
-
She left for grad school a year before I had graduated. I found the love of my life later so it's cool. :-*
Was she nice?
-
she was. we really only clicked on a intellectual and humorous level. if you know what I mean.
So there wasn't romance in the air. :(
Ah, well, you met the love of your life - is this girl still single? :D
-

I know what you mean. A relationship won't last unless the couple clicked on a genital level.

sex is a very important part of a relationship.
i've been trying to tell Ichirou that.

Shut the fuck up, flippers.

I like it here out west. Whenever I go to east coast I don't much enjoy it.
There's just something about it that makes me angsty and want to leave.
Maybe because it so old and shitty.
