Lolz, you guys cant read:
Necroscope by Brian Lumley
(http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/1530000/1531809.gif)(http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/1530000/1531806.gif)(http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/1070000/1071787.gif)
Just finished Necroscope (for the 4th time lol) yesterday. Honestly of the original Necroscope trilogy (necroscope, vamphyri, the source) this one is probably my least favorite. There's just a lot of exposition in this volume, and not enough ASS KICKIN. However its essential to read it before the other two books.
The trilogy ends with The Source and omg awesome extra dimensional ESPionage, VAMPIRE SLAYIN ACTION! WOO! After that the series DOES continue, but it changes quite a bit... However one thing I can say is it re-writes the ann rice bullshit vampire mythos nicely.
I wanna look into the spinoff series covering the sons of the main character fromt he necroscope series, but I am not sure where to start.
Just started reading:
Shaman's Crossing by Robin Hobb
(http://ec3.images-amazon.com/images/P/0060758287.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V61544173_.jpg)
Only half a chapter in, started reading it yesterday evening. Its been a while since i've read the Farseer trilogy but since then I havent really encountered a writing style like Robin Hobb's. Its actually really refreshing to read her work again, and so far Shaman's Crossing has that same effect of presenting a fantasy environment that has enough 'real' to keep things grounded and different.
Anyway I really liked the Farseer Trilogy so im pretty sure I will like this new one. I really need to get around to reading the Tawny Man Trilogy too...
La Grande Armee by Georges Blond and Marshall May
And as always I am picking here and there at this book. Haven't got to the war in spain yet, just wrapping up the prussian campaign.

Just got done reading the Spiderman 3 script. Pretty good stuff, although why the fuck is Reed Richards in this movie?

They needed someone to stop Aunt May-Carnage.

I'm reading A Lesson Before Dying... :-\

Sounds uplifting!

Meh, its decent for a "Crash"-like heavy-handed novel... :/

I mostly read high end fantasy (read: not wheel of time lol) and french history books.

One of these days ill ready a Terry Pratchet book. I just get a weird monty python vibe from the books' art and it makes me not wanna.
-
I just read Slaughterhouse-Five, and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World before that. I'm currently reading Woodward's newest, State of Denial.

And what's with the judging books by cover thing?
-
Making vague attempts to read "Against Nature" by Huysmans and "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" by Alan Stilltoe. Hopefully I'll be able to prioritise my time better once my exams are behind me.

I read evilbore, thats good enough for me.
Every time I read a jotaro post for instance, it feels like I'm reading another bad novel.

Good book, but I know none of you are in the slight bit interested.
Been reading this now:

So far it's very interesting and enlightening, and I haven't gotten up to the string theory stuff yet, which apparently is already getting some backlash from the scientific community. I guess I'm a little behind.

I think I almost picked the elegant universe up, but heady reading usually puts me to sleep. Dont get me wrong, i find it fascinating, but something about the way they talk knocks me out cold.
Sadly I get a good dose of accurate basic quantum physics from Stargate SG1 lol

I have read basically nothing academic other than textbooks, so I can't compare it to anything, but his writing isn't so bad. Get it MAF. For 10 bucks, it's worth a shot, considering the stuff you buy every week.

Well since you asked so nice ... :-\

WTF is Necroscope?

It's a pretty engrossing pulp series about vampires and aliens and dead things. Takes some cues from Lovecraft, but is written in a less turgid style.
-
Vampires meet SECRET AGENTS meet ALIENS meet GUNS! meets PYSCHIC POWERS meets OTHER DIMENSIONS meets MODERN DAY, its really nifty stuff

I love Against Nature. It's one of my favorite 19th century novels.
