Who's got one? Which one do you have? Whats on it?
I have a black 30 GB IPod Video, also called vPod by distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.
I have owned a IPod Shuffle (loved it, shut up haters) and IPod Nano (2 GB).
Right now I have 5 GB of mp3s, 3 seasons of ATHF, a few episodes of battlestar galactica AND tonight ill be putting episodes of GOOD EATS on it :D

I have a 20GB. I use it mostly to store porn as an external HD.
-
TVC-15 just sold me his 60 gig iPod Video. It came with 58 gigs of defecation footage on it, and 1 gig of GG Allin bootlegs.
-
What is wrong with the iPod? Do you honestly believe a device can define you? If so you are even weaker than you think.
You can own one and not run around outside with plugs in your ears. Trust me, when you're all grow'ed up and sitting at a desk for your job, you'll want one.
-
Why do you Darks hate the iPod? Any particular reason other than general douchebaggedness?
I used to have a 3rd gen 15GB; I replaced the battery in it and gave it to my girl after I bought my 5th gen 60GB one. I love it, of course... but jesus christ, the surface scratches if you LOOK at it funny.
-
Yeah, aside from the shuffle, the Nano and the Video NEED a protective case. I dont know why Apple doesnt devise some fashionable case to carry it in to start with.
-
I have the original white 20 gig ipod.

They used to give you a belt clip carrying case with 3rd gen models - it kept that thing safe and scratch-free!
One thing I don't like about Apple - as the iPod has gotten more popular, they're really chintzing out on what comes in the package.
I have the original white 20 gig ipod.
What do you mean by "original"?
-
White 80 Gig 5.5G
1 Gig Shuffle
I'll be getting one of the new Shuffles later this month. The new Nanos are also pretty tempting, but I think I can hold off.

I hate the scratch prone faces they started using with the 5Gs. Why the hell did they make it so you effectively MUST buy a protextive case for it? Stupid, stupid decision.

I should have clarified - I don't know what a '5th gen' is.

I have a 2gb white Nano which I use for the gym mostly. I may trade (down?) for one of the new shuffles though, those look perfect.

You don't know about hardware generations? Are you new or something?
5th generation video iPod.

No, i've just never followed Ipod models. I got my Nano for the gym after hearing 'Pump Up the Jam' twice in one hour. :yuck

My gym has shit like Celine Dion playing on loop, I feel like I'm turning into Richard Simmons or something. :(

it's a little late for "turning into"

I was going to post a question just now about iPods, maybe someone in here will know. Is there any way you can download a file to an ipod for each song where you play a song and the lyrics will scroll on the screen? I've never heard of that, that would be cool shit though I think.
-
There might be a hack or two that would let you do that, but there's nothing "official".
However, you could put the lyrics into a .txt file and upload it to your notes section... it's not exactly what you're saying but it's a start.
Question for you iPod owners: do you make playlists? I know that sounds silly but I used to organize my music by genre, now I just make, like, a hip-hop playlist, a drum n' bass playlist, a rawk playlist, etc. etc.

I go Genre > Artist > Album. I really need to rethink "Alternative" because there's so much stuff in there that could probably use it's own sub-genre.

I bet you used to have a "happy hardcore" folder back in the day
I don't even know what that is :(

it's like goa trance, but even homo-ier.
-
nah I dont make playlists, my music moods are usually too all over the place.
-
it's like goa trance, but even homo-ier.
nothing is more homo than trance
"Happy hardcore is a form of techno music typified by a very fast BPM (usually around 165-180), female vocals, and sweet lyrics. Its characteristically 4/4 beat "happy" sound distinguishes it from most other forms of breakbeat hardcore, which tend to be darker. It often has piano samples and spacey effects."
drum n' bass actually got its beginnings as an offshoot of happy hardcore, so I can't be that mad at it.
-
it's like goa trance
That would explain it then. I'm not big into any of that techno/house/trance/dance stuff. All the music here sits in one place, so most of the electronic is my boyfriends.
Current partial screenshot of what's actually on my ipod:
And I just realized, SC, I don't sort by Genre on my ipod. Just Artist > Album/random tracks. I don't think I've ever made a playlist for it.
-
I have a crap load of Mp3 players too many but they all have purposes.
5 new shuffles each one with different types of books.
1 8gb Zen Microphoto my portable hdd
1 30gb Video Ipod (i dont have any programs to convert my shows so i have nothing on it but music)
2 4gb Nano's still brand new not opened.
-
Melissa, TVC could probably jerk it to that list, at least until he hit fucking THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS.
WTF, get out of here college cigarillo
-
It's not like fucking goa trance!!!!1 ::)
-
it all sounds gay to me!
-
granted. but it's not goa trance, it's DING DING DINGDING DAH DING DING DINGDING FEEL THE ENERGY

In iTunes, I have a bunch of smart playlists that are just named after genres, and I have them set to auto-add songs whenever they match that specific genre.
I love smart playlists. I have them set up just for certain artists, too, so it includes their whole catalogue in one playlist. And of course I have the staple "Recently Added" "Top 25 Most Played," etc. It works out well.
If I'm viewing my entire music library, I typically sort it by artist, though.
-
I like House Trance or whatever. Its just the genre never evolves beyond some lady screeching BELIEVE! FLY! or some other variation while electronic music whirls in the background. There's like one good CD with actual lyrics every 5 years, then there's the long period of everyone trying to rip it off and failing miserably.
Im just happy the DJ Sammy phase is over.
-
The thing about electronic music is that there are a million different genres that often overlap each other. I just throw 'em all in the same folder and put the ones I like best in the same playlist.
-
yeah ive never understood the different classifcations of that type of music. People would always try to explain it:
So whats trance?
Oh its more of a OOMPH BIIZZZZ
So whats dance?
More of an BIZZ OMMPH
and whats electronica?
A little OMMPPHHH ZAP BIZZ but sometimes they mix it up with ZTTTTTTT
-

I used to be really into electronic music, and I always had to laugh when I'd go to forums and there'd be a 10-page pissing contest about what genre a certain track should be classified as. Reminds me of GAF.
-
In all honesty, though, there are big differences between the genre.
If I didn't have a shitload of work I should be doing, I would explain in depth
-
Melissa, TVC could probably jerk it to that list, at least until he hit fucking THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS.
That's fine, but I don't know who TVC is and there's no shame in liking 'Flood'.
If I'm viewing my entire music library, I typically sort it by artist.
Same.
-
is Scooter happy hardcore? they did a song about it and it made me fuck a man in his behind
-
I don't think it's such a problem with the genres so much as all the subgenres. Like, with trance, you have epic trance, vocal trance, melodic trance, hard trance, progressive trance, psy trance, etc. ... and I'd see people arguing about them all the time.
-
What the fuck is wrong with They Might Be Giants?
-
I group music into three categories:
shit (includes The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and anything Scott Stapp ever participated in)
shame (Madonna's Ray of Light)
awesome (Boston, King Crimson, Gabriel-era Genesis, pre-Lateralus Tool)

TMBG is the slaphappier side of Jimmy Buffett. It's the Frasier of music.

Well, its obviously because you're so damn hardcore.

Fuck an Ipod shuffle. Overpriced for what you're getting. There are better sounding mp3 players available for much less.
Trumps the Ipod Shuffle in the following ways:
1 gig
FM Radio/Recorder
Line-in jack for ripping CDs straight to player.
Voice recorder
Sounds much better, as Creative knows what the hell they're doing when it comes to audio
User-adjustable equalizer
Battery life up to 18 hours on one AAA battery
Can be found for as low as $50 during sales
HAS A FUCKING SCREEN
-
Ipod shuffle does indeed suck ass for not having a screen.

The new Shuffle is perfect for when I'd use it. I don't need CD ripping, voice recording or FM reception when I'm in the gym, I just need something small and unobtrusive that can drown out the crap-50 music they play there. I've had problems leaving even the Nano in my pocket when I'm lifting, and I haven't had good experiences the arm straps either. Plus I get a work-funded discount...

No screen is stupid.

Oh and here is a snapshot of my weirdly organized music folder. This is my laptop one (since my Server is in storage right now, that one has about 20GB+ worth of music). This folder contains 6.6GB of Music....

It holds maybe two to three hours of battery life. And yes it still has the original battery and I haven't had any problems with it even though I probably dropped it accidently once or twice. It's still running full speed for me, but every now and then I get the urge to save up to get a nano...but then I take a look at my mini and fall in love all over again! :'(

Horrible. I have to deal with her tedious, hand-wringing posts and Grudge-esque pix at multiple forums. Yay! :mrt

Not too many people post here "that much", MAF.

AND HOW! :tophat

What's wrong with Waychel? She's better than an Ipod Shuffle.

Drinky's description of her being "histrionic" is the most accurate one I've seen yet

I am unfamiliar with the history of her emotional stability, but I have gazed upon the infamous Hello Kitty Almost A Cameltoe shot.
-
Well, what kind of calibre woman do you think takes pix like that and puts them on the internet?

Well, that's no real indication, in this day and age. Lots of relatively normal people enjoy showing themselves off via digital tease photos. It's not my bag, but whatever greases her gears, I guess.

I cast Aeofel's Resurrect Thread, since it's labeled as "THE evilbore IPOD thread"
And I will begin with profanity: FUCK Apple.
A month past its warranty, and my iPod Touch 32GB headphone jack became flaky. I've been waiting to take it for repairs another month, because we've been in heavy overtime mode at work. Today I took it to the Shinsaibashi Apple Store and waited to talk to a repair guy. I won't say "Genius" because the advice was this:
Repair Guy with Apple Nametag: "Repairing this will cost 23,000 yen. The 'repair' is getting a refurb unit. Buying a new iPod Touch 32GB will cost 29,900 yen. If you don't want to keep your 'broken' one, we'll refurbish it and give you 10% off your replacement purchase."
Me: "The device cost me 50,000 yen and you're going to give me 3000 yen for it, repair the headphone jack, and sell it to someone for 23,000 yen as a repair unit? I'll keep it for my wife to play Bejeweled, thanks."
Until now, I'd been thinking about replacing my PowerBook; it has a dead battery and both power adapters I had for it were recently destroyed in quick succession. That notebook was really flaky as well; it went in for repairs several times, each time was a surreal contest of wills with Apple's apocryphally friendly staff. It was a refurb unit, and after all the trials I had with it, my friend at Apple who set me up with it claimed that PowerBook had the worst track record or any Apple equipment he'd ever seen.
So replacing that long-held lemon was a priority, especially since the adapters alone are 10,000 yen, but a new iPad will be 50,000 yen or so. A new MacBook, was also in the running, but now apparently I need to re-purchase my iPod Touch because the headphone jack went bad. There are places in the USA which will do the labor for US$25, but the local handyman places which handle out-of-warranty iPhone/iPod repairs in Osaka want 12,000 yen. What a racket.
When I had to start thinking about dropping another 30-50,000 yen on a new player, I stopped thinking about replacing my PowerBook and bought a replacement adapter. ˇVIVA LÍMON!
I loved my iPod Touch for the year (wait -- just over a year!) but I'm seriously thinking about a different media player, and seriously reconsidering buying any Apple hardware in the future.
-
get a zero yen iPhone
Why don't you come talk to Daddy sooner about these little problems, Chrono-chan
-
There is a Shake imposter :yuck
wait nvm
-
We're on AU, and the bastards auto-renewed our contract for another two-years. Apparently the contract allows them to do that, and I'm not sure that Softbank's evil nature is any preferable, and their coverage is still spotty, I hear.
How is the zero-yen iPhone worked out?
-
Still using my 4 GB iPod Nano from 2005... :-\
-
I have a 512MB 1st gen Shuffle, a 4G 40GB and an 80GB 5.5G. My wife has an 8GB Nano G3.
I love them all. I got nice cases, even an iPoDonut for my two hard drive ones. (Cover for the click wheel)
I used to make custom firmware for them, with Pac-Man art.
-
Just got off the phone with the US Apple Support. I thought maybe I could get the rules bent a little in the USA, particularly since it was a US-bought product. But they don't love me anymore either. :maf
They said letting any hardware go out of warranty, and not opting to buy Applecare is essentially a gamble, and that they're unable (unwilling!) to make an exception. So, in short: 500USD iPod Touch is really only obligated to work for 12 months, after that, enjoy your hockey puck.
OK, I tried.
Having already spent a day in Osaka attempting to address this, I'll now follow up on the OOW repair place in Nipponbashi, pay whatever they're charging, and live with the results. Failing that, I may mail it to a US OOW repair place and have them ship to a friend's US address, then have it shipped to Japan. Golly, I love the convenience of using Apple products. ::)
-
I'm still rockin my 80 GB iPod classic, which holds most of my music and all of the Borecasts.
:-*
-
I have a newish 16gb Nano (the video one) that's been giving me problems. This thing is supposed to be rated for like 20 hours of battery, right? Pretty much since I've got it I can only get like 7-8 hours listening to music, PowerSaver on etc. etc. and it sucks. I bought it at a Target and don't even have the receipt anymore, so I'm not sure I could even get it fixed/exchanged at this point. :'(
-

I've read that letting the battery completely run out can effect the life the battery itself. My 3G Nano is still going strong (as far as battery) but the click wheel sucks donkey dick.
-
I've let the battery drain like two or three times since I got it, but even before that I've only gotten like eight or maybe nine hours tops without needing to recharge. I think mine might be busted. Also sometimes in the middle of a song it will randomly turn on shuffle and put on a different song, is this some widespread glitch or just my iPod being a dick?
-
30gig Ipod Video with, like, 900mb left of space. Waiting for a refresh of the Itouch line before I take the plunge and grab a 64giger. Hopefully this summer
-
the same fucking thing happened to my 80GB, chrono, and they told me the same thing: buy a new one or pay a ton for repairs. i responded by throwing my ipod against my dashboard in a fit of rage, and now it just shows a picture or a ipod with a frowny face when i turn it on.
fuck apple indeed
-
Apple tends to make quality hardware, but not in the case of the iPods from what I've experienced. I've owned three in my lifetime and all three ended up basically becoming bricks within a span of no more than a year and a half, and it's not like I'm throwing them at the ground or anything. They're just not very well made, and purposely made to break down after a little while so that you feel obligated to go out and buy a newer, more expensive model.
Apple continues to swindle me :'(
-
This is why I always buy Apple products with an American Express card, something learned from my father. He bought my wife her iPhone at the end of 2008 when we first moved here. The speaker went dead a month ago, out of warranty. Apple said it would cost $200 for a refurb. Thanks to Amex, which will cover the warranty costs another year, we got $200 back from them and got a replacement iPhone, no Applecare needed.
Chrono, are you headed to the States anytime soon? Seems like it could be a lot cheaper buying a new PC or Mac here instead of in Japan. The MacBook I got during a trip to a Tokyo Apple Store in 2008 cost $300-$400 more than in the U.S.
