Fast-food restaurants may brag about their premium salads and apple fries, but for all the healthier items they've added to menus, portion bloat is bigger than ever.
Not only are servings getting larger, some top fast-food chains are engaged in a sleight-of-name game — marketing ploys which could confuse customers who think they're ordering less than they actually are, according to a study I co-authored with Dr. Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition at New York University, published in a recent Journal of Public Health Policy.

up here in Nova Scotia they serve these "supreme fries" at taco bell as a send-up of Poutine, oh holy shit is it tasty. Krispy fries topped with Bell meat, nacho sauce, sour cream, onion, tomato....oh man.

So whatever happened to McDonalds getting rid of super-sizing? They actually did that, right? They didn't bring it back or anything, either, right? Did they just make all of their other portions bigger to compensate?

They don't have it. I actually tried asking for Super Size fries about a year ago, and looked like a gluttonous fool.

that doesn't even make sense. why would a company try to fool consumers into thinking they were getting LESS than they are? if consumers actually wanted less, why not give them less? weirdest marketing ploy ever.
I don't eat much and am pretty skinny anyway, so when I do eat I like large portions (not that I ever eat at fast food chains)

it could be like Hardees' new breakfast sandwich which is about 1,000 Calories while the average fast food breakfast sandwich is about 500-600. they say that their reason for that is that people feel hungry (somehow) after finishing one of their competition's breakfast sandwich so they normally order two. it's a bit more shit, but it makes the customer happier when they go there.

I never understood the complaints about fast-food chains. They aren't to blame, people are to blame. It's them who crave for greasy/sweet food that tastes good and is quick to order. McDonald's, Burger King and the others are only catering to a demand, not creating one. If people couldn't get their burger + fries combos from these chains, they'd get them from another restaurant somehow.
At one point McDonald's tried to introduce a few vegetables like carrots as options to combos and customers were outraged, they wanted fries only.
Anyhow whenever I have to go in a place like that I at least take the fries out and pick a salad instead.

That's actually the title of a book in a series of "young adult" novels I have thought about writing, TVC. :heartbeat
It's tentatively titled "Saga of the Beast" and so far I have come up with the following titles:
Rise and Fall of the BK Beast
Redemption of the BK Beast
Resurrection of the BK Beast
Revenge of the BK Beast
Son of the BK Beast
These books will be targeted at junior high and high school students, and will tell the saga of a young, developmentally disabled boy and his attempts to become a big-time filmmaker. Derisively nicknamed "BK Beast" by a few of his online acquaintances (whose extreme resemblance to Evilbore posters is entirely coincidental), he decides to "take the name back" and turns it into his official pseudonym for his work.
The work will cover both his "online persona" and his real-world circumstances, including how he deals with parental abuse, and self-image issues.
I am marketing it to Scholastic right now, and if all goes well, the series should start by 2009. There may be Burger King tie-in toys as well.
It's gonna be the next Goosebumps.

Gender issues, self-image issues, all of that is going to be covered. The Burger King toys will include she-male variants of the BK Beast action figure, to encourage kids to come back for more, and to "Unleash the inner hambeast inside you!"

The "I ate fast food and feel terrible now" feeling is mostly made up. I feel incredible after a Filet o Fish/Big Mac/Big King and a strawberry milkshake.

It is not made up. Go for like a month without fast food and once you go back you'll feel it.

yeah there's chemicals in it to make you feel really good if you have it fairly regularly but one time I went like 3 months without mcdonalds/BK or any of those and then when I walked into a mcdonalds, I got nauseous. I tried eating some fries and it was disgusting as fuck. since then, I could never eat at mcdonalds.

I am sensitive to this shit, so I am a decent barometer: McDonalds has made me vomit before. Like, a few hours after eating there, the food, it comes back. My stomach does not want to process their food. It is apparently not good enough even for my ass to shit out. I have to PUUUUUKKKKEEEE.

sometimes it also has something to do with the freshness of the meals. Occassionally I get the has-been-there-for-half-an-hour burgers and fries and feel terrible afterwards.

they all pretty much taste the same. if they were old, they'd feel stale in my mouth but they all taste the same. it's in my stomach that they feel like shit.
