Lost did know what to do with it though. They decided to focus on each story arc seperately through each individual episode instead of throwing a bunch of useless information at you filled with plot holes and unfulfilled storylines.

At least the Lost writers understand that if you want to make ambitious story arc's, you need the content to take time to flesh them out. Heroes says "IT'S HUGE! CATCH! IGNORE THE PLOTHOLES WHEN WE'VE DECIDED TO MOVE TOO FAST AND CREATE YOUR OWN REASONS TO BE EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO THE CHARACTERS." or they say "HERE'S THIS BACKSTORY THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON THE CURRENT SITUATION! FLUFF!"
