Basically, Common Sense Media is appearing to be using a screenshot from a freaking beta of Manhunt 2 to tell people not to buy it, and Rockstar is saying that the content in the screenshot WAS CUT FROM THE FINAL GAME. :-\

I'm anti-censorship and all that, but Rockstar isn't doing anyone any favors. They made a violent game with no merit other than sensationalized violence. By all accounts, this game is worse than the first Manhunt, and that means it's pretty terrible. I love GTA as much as the next guy, but jusst because they gave Thompsom some zingers doesn't mean Rockstar deserves to be held up as the vanguard of free speech in the videogame realm. Manhunt 2, this whole fiasco, is stone distinguished mentally-challenged. Rockstar effectively became an ENEMY to free speech in videogames by continuing to push buttons without good reason after the Hot Coffee Incident.
I am sure Rockstar and a ton of idiot Gaffers (mainly Wii fans) will say that Rockstar is FIGHTING FOR FREE SPEECH AND FIGHTING CENSORSHIP. No, they aren't; they are just giving their critics a bucketfull of ammo. I eagerly await Manhunt 3: MANRAPE.
-
I'm just not into torture porn, so I was going to pass on Manhunt 2, regardless of censorship. Besides, my plate is going to be full next week when Virtua Fighter 5 hits the Xbox 360. :-*

Rockstar has put gamers in a terrible position here. If gamers want to be vigilant against censorship, they have to stand up for this game. This terrible, terrible game that doesn't even have good gameplay like GTA.
If gamers don't stand up for it, well, they could get walked all over. But just look at what they are standing up for? If you're going to make a controversial game that you know youa re going to have to fight for, at least make it worthwhile. Gamers defending this will look like total sickies.
-
Whiteman is right on, though fyi, its manhunt 3: Caligula, not MANRAPE.

That's what I thought when I started to hear about the executions. I like violent games, but not THIS violent. I'll probably buy GTA4 when it comes out, and I'll be there day one for Midnight Club LA, but I'll pass on this. I hope that the furor is for naught, and I'm okay with Rockstar releasing an uncut version for the PC, but other than that, this isn't my type of game.
-
I agree with Whiteman. Rockstar has really screwed gamers over with the Manhunt series. They have no redeeming value and yet we feel obligated to keep them uncensored to prevent future games from being censored.
I'll be passing on this game and I don't give a damn if it does get censored.
-
I'm gonna buy it for Wii. I want to pretend to stab bitches. :-[
-
the game shouldn't be relying too much on torture porn from what I've heard. apparently, they made the executions really blurry and darken the screen so that you can't really see anything (although you can probably hear it). it's like a kiddy version of Saw I guess. only it has one sequel.
and isn't this a horror game? to take out the main violent act the whole game revolves around kind of sounds like a stupid thing to ask.
-
Agreed with Whiteman, and I am a regular R* games apologist.

I hear ya. Like I said in my last post in this thread, I'm probably going to buy Midnight Club LA and GTA 4, so R* has my $... just not with Manhunt 2.

Rockstar did good with GTA (but fuck it, I had far more fun with Crackdown than I ever did GTA), Midnight Club (although I only liked 3), and Table Tennis (on 360, anyway). Everything else they've done might as well be ignored. At least Manhunt wasn't hyped up as the "next GTA BUY NOW NOW NOW" like State Of Emergency was. :P

er, wasn't Rockstar renamed from DMA which did stuff like Lemmings?

The Warriors
stfu
You've got GTAIII, VC, SA, Table Tennis, The Warriors, Bully (it's okay..), Midnight Club, and when you consider they just became Rockstar games, oh...6 years ago? That's a good track record.

It gets uglier...

Surprise, surprise.

Surprise, surprise.
I just fear that this will boil over pretty quickly. Will we have to deal with Germany-style censorship here? I hope not. R* isn't doing us any favors, though...
-
I changed my mind, I havent even played the first one, no reason to get tacked on waggle (which we know its gonna be)

It really annoys me that such a mediocre developer defines gaming for the mainstream media.
-
What, PD, you didn't like the GTA series?
-
Games with a never-ending sandbox desing suck.
-
I was kidding about GTA. A lot of people love the series but I don't count myself as one. I could never get over the terrible graphics and art direction. Yuck.
