I'm 3 months in to a year long rogaine treatment that has a 50 percent shot of regrowing some of my hair. Meanwhile, I wear stylish hats around campus but it feels sorta lame. Still, I look substantially better with the cap on. Oh my lord, this has not been good for my confidence either. Fuck. Haven't been laid since this happened to me! FUCK YOU DAD!

Post by: Smooth Groove on October 28, 2007, 10:19:26 PM: Go see a dermatologist for a Propecia/Proscar prescription as soon as possible. It should at least stop more hair loss. It's also possible that much of your hair loss can be reversed with this drug since you're so young.

I started going bald around 20 too. It's from my mum's side though - her dad was very, very bald.

Because not everyone is happy being bald? Besides, there's enough medical technology now to deal with baldness. Like I said before, he should go on Propecia and see what happens. If he gets no improvement in a year or two, then hair implants is another option.

No matter how much someone tells a man that bald can be sexy, it won't help if he doesn't believe it himself. Since Chipopo's so young, the most important thing right now is to stop further hair loss.

There's certainly no guarantee to many of the solutions but in most cases, Rogaine/Propecia can restore hair dramatically in a young man. They can at least stop the hair from thinning further and in most cases much of the hair is recovered in someone that's just lost hair recently.

However, a hair loss patient has to have realistic expectations. Even with those medications, it won't be possible to get back the hair that he once had as a teenager.

I should have taken it so much sooner but I was in my buddhist phase and was completely convinced I wouldn't be phased by it. Contemplate impermanence blah blah blah. OH MAN.

I pretty much have to become a working professional at this point. Professors and doctors pull off the bald look well. In the meantime it's fleshlight city though :(

Post by: Smooth Groove on October 28, 2007, 10:52:34 PM: Minoxidil doesn't work the same way as Propecia. Seriously, you should get Propecia as soon as possible. It stops hair loss better than any other medication. Minoxidial stimulates hair regrowth but it doesn't stop hair loss.

I'm not going bald, but I get my head shaved to 0.5 at the barber every month. It really feels nice.

There are some new methods that would cause pratically no scars. Also, you have enough hair on the sides that no doctor would use body/facial hair as transplants. But like I said, the #1 recommendation that a doctor would give a young man w/hair loss is Propecia/Proscar. Proscar and Propecia are the same drug with different dosages. Proscar is cheaper because it's also used for non-cosmetic purposes.

About 5-10 dollars/ graft. It's expensive but those hairs won't fall off. The hairs on the side and back have a different genetic makeup that prevent them from falling out like the front hairs. You'll have to see a doctor to see how many you need. Typical operations are between 500-200 grafts/session.

You should just stop delaying the inevitable, shave it all off, and try to look good and get used to it. Spend the money that you would for all this hair stuff on more important things like nice clothes.

I work with a guy that started to wear a toupe a couple years ago. I mean a REALLY bad toupe. The guy shaved his hair on the back of his head so when he puts on his wig the fucking thing casts a shadow on his skull. We all just pretend to ignore it but whenever someone new comes into the lab you can see their eyes automatically drawn onto that fucking disaster helmet.
