you should have bought a FULLER HD Tv like Bravia X series! what were you thinking?
As if the "Fuller HD" moniker wasn`t fannybattertastic enough, they have a chart up showing you how much better the new TV is than the one people bought as "the new shit" mere months ago... which itself was a very quick iteration of the previous line...
with circles showing "adequate" but FUCKING GLITTERING GOLD CROWNS showing that the new TV is the REAL hot shit. This time... we mean it... this one is HDMI 1.3 and has super colour boosting something or other. but anyways....
And just as i started removing the stench of sonys ass out of my mouth, i saunter over to the DVD section of Yodobashi. Spiderman 3 - on it`s own - on bluray? Bwaahhahahaa why that would make too much sense! You can either buy the stupidly priced DVD that clocks in at Bluray price OR you can buy Spiderman 1 , 2 and 3 in a bundle for $140 or something ASS BACKWARDS like that....
or i guess you could buy the PS3 "desperation bundle" and get Spiderman 3 on it's own then.
Who the frig is running Sony these days? My pubes could run a company better than this.

I like making fun of Sony as much as the next guy, but you can't accurately pretend that they are the only company out there that are total assclowns when it comes to releasing new TVs every other months. Yeah, the naming scheme is especially distinguished mentally-challenged, but it's not like any more proof was needed on how distinguished mentally-challenged Sony's PR people have been the past couple of years.

I wouldn't fault them for releasing new tvs, but if they aren't releasing Spiderman 3 seperately on Blu Ray that sounds like a horrible idea to me. They are on the verge of losing their lead in the format war and they are bundling their exclusive 'big gun' in with a box set and PS3? And then price gouging on the dvds?
Makes me really happy I jumped on that Best Buy HD DVD deal :D

There's a crucial factor that you missed here: DCharlie is in Japan, where all the companies do fucked up shit like this and media pricing is way out of fucking control. I saw the Spider-Man Blu-Ray bundle ad last week and laughed. It's a good thing Japan is the same region as the U.S. with these movies!

I'm just waiting. If I didn't have a PS3, I wouldn't bother getting a Blu-Ray player either. I doubt HD-DVD is going to end up winning the format wars; I'm just waiting for the inevitable Blu-Ray victory and then all the real "special editions" of all the movies that were gimped previously or on HD-DVD.

Do they ever? DVD had some of the same shit (well, the players at least) in the beginning, and there was Beta Max and VHS before that.
My dad was pro-Beta Max back then, even after VHS had clearly kicked the shit out of it, so for a couple of years, we didn't have shit to watch on tape.

In some ways, having two competitors have been good for the HD war. If not for Hd-dvd, Blu-ray would probably still be using the far inferior Mpeg-2 codecs inseated of VC1. Also, there have been ridiculous deals from both sides to bring in new customers.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. That makes sense, I couldn't imagine Sony would be stupid enough to pull something like that in the US. I guess Japan really is a world away...

what resolution is fuller HD? what content is there for it?

Fuller HD is just a marketing term Sony's PR department probably came up with. It just means full 1080p instead of 720p/1080i.

bandai's doing that same thing with anime bds in the us, unbelievably. i'd like to see wings of honneamise in hd, but shit is like $70 in some weird dvd bundle, and netflix doesn't carry it
