-
the shining. it looks incredible and is such an awesome movie.
-
Clockwork Orange. With a glass of wine.
I just ordered it on Blu-Ray. Do it.
-
Are the new Kubrick HD discs new transfers, or just cleaned up old ones?
I think they are new, right? The last real DVD transfer was in like 2000-01, right?
-
Have you seen CHILDREN OF MEN? It is fuck awesome, don't listen to MAF he hates everything.
-
I say Children of Men, but what do I know.
-
Blood Diamond was pretty good.

yes. new transfers. the shining is INCREDIBLY clean compared to the dvd transfers.

it's a beautifully-filmed movie with a shit plot and clumsy pacing and a terrible performance from michael caine

No idea what the DVDs were like (I think they may have been kind of skimpy, because I remember thinking they were kinda pricey), but aside from Full Metal Jacket, these Kubrick discs all have pretty interesting special features, too.
Does anyone know if the BD Eyes Wide Shut still has the censored shit?

Yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man.

Honestly, Prole, I'd take a shitty Michael Caine performance over most actors' good performances. He would be an awesome daddy.

The funny thing is, it's not a bad performance. Michael Caine as a burnt out hippie weed dealer? Score, I say.
-
Well, I'll see. I think I am leaning towards that movie, actually. Kubrick is probably a bit too heavy for a day in which I have been dosed with dental drugs and since come down. I don't really want to have to think right now.
-
it doesn't help that he's given some pretty awful lines.
-
If you haven't seen Children of Men, watch it.
I would have said 2001 otherwise.
-
Children of Men sucks, even in 1080P. I bought that crap too at $35.
-
Maybe tomorrow or Sunday I will do a Kubrick marathon, just like my period marathon last week.
-
TVC: The transfers on the Kubrick dvd's are pretty assy. the shining is one of the better transfers i've seen. plus, you don't have to think with the shining!

Did you figure out how to get screencaps from HDDVD yet, TVC?

Yes, but I still have some questions that I can't find the answers to re: HD-DVD playback on PC. Like what resolution is it playing at? 720p and upscaling, or 1080p and downscaling to my monitor's resolution. Not really a huge deal. From my limited amount of playing with it, I think it is upscaling. I have to tinker with the options in the playback program.
Also, I saw Cronenberg's The Fly is on HD-DVD. I almost bought that, but I wanted to get something new. Plus, The Fly is like one of the grossest movies ever. It still makes me twitch, even after seeing it a zillion times, and seeing Geena Davis give birth to a live giant maggot didn't sound like the most thrilling idea tonight.
-
holy fuck, i forgot geena davis was in the fly.
wasn't she in earth girls are easy with goldblum, too?

It's downscaling since the material is 1920x1080 and your mon is 1680x1050. The video plays at whatever resolution your desktop is set to. It doesn't really matter anyway as long as you're maxing out the mon's resolution. I had a 20" monitor before my current 24" and Hd-dvds look the same on both.
-
Also, PC playback is clearly either not perfected yet, or the USB connection isn't fast enough for the PC, or the 360 drive just isn't optimum, but it takes like 2 minutes or so for the movies to start playing smoothly. Maybe a bit less. Before that it might be a bit choppy. Nothing really major. I'm guessing it has to cache or something.
-
I don't have that problem. It might be a registry issue with old video apps. Could you also send to Nikki the powerpoint that I gave you?

Yes. I still need to see Gladiator unedited though; I've only seen it on TNT.
Spartacus is so awesome. I saw it when I was pretty young, and it's been a favorite film of mine for some time. Watching it as an adult was even better because I finally got the homo metaphors :o
-
I'm going with Children of Men, btw.

9.5/10
