New interview from ign. It's seriously way too damn long to put in quotes. The interview is 4 pages long. I'll try to post some choice quotes though.

I've already got the PS3 version preordered. The first 666 people to preorder at Gamestop.com got a free shirt. I didn't see any reason not to, since they don't charge you until it ships.

IGN AU: Let's get into the gameplay. It's pretty hack and slash right? But is it also like a rock'n'roll RPG? Rock opera style? How would you pigeonhole it?
Tim Schafer: We have it pigeonholed as a third person action adventure in an open-world environment, and the open-world thing that's important to me is that we want to make a real world - the world of Brutal Legend - like a place that exists, where crazy beasts are wondering around, as well as epic characters. It's just all real, y'know, you're not just going down some track. You put this hotrod together and you can just drive all over the world, and find all these little nooks and crannies. And that's the kind of stuff that we hinted at in Psychonauts - we really tried to make that campground in Psychonauts with little hidden areas that it didn't really have to have... There's like a really old cemetery in the campground, and there's a collectable there but it's just something that's kind of cool to find.
So we tried to build that in Psychonauts, but it was still pretty limited, so now we want to do a world that's streaming, and you can explore all over and find all these cool elements that we saw on heavy metal album covers.
GN AU: So why is Eddie raising an army?
Tim Schafer: He gets to this land, this brutal world where humanity is enslaved by demons, and he's greeted like a hero. They're like - 'Finally! Someone's come to save us! You're from the future so you must know a lot about modern warfare so why don't you tell us all about it?' and he doesn't know anything about modern warfare, but he knows how to put on a good rock show, and how to get a band moved from one town to another. And so he's like 'I can do that for you', and one of the interesting things about this world is that there was an ancient race of titans that invented everything from music, in the form of heavy metal, and also hotrods and cars, and basically everything cool, but then they eventually ascended up to the heavens to become the metal gods, but they wanted to leave behind instructions for how to do this.
:lol I'm not even a big heavy metal fan and that sounds awesome
