There's some pie dance :p
-
spiderman 3>spiderman 2 :violin
-
so far, so bad
dunst is oogly
-
i see thomas haden church breaking into a house and i think wow this didn't work out so well for you in sideways either
-
well, that was shortest character establishing scene ever
-
Hilariously bad movie.
-
YOU'RE NOT A CONFUSED JEW LIVING IN SAN FRANCISCO
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS
-
They should cut out everything except harry osborne and evil toby.
-
I'm not even sure if I want to watch the whole thing in 1080P again. Transfomers >Spidey 3
-
the harry on toby love hurts battle scene brought a lol
-
I'm one of the biggest Evil Dead fans out there and couldn't believe how bad Spiderman 3 was. I was never really a big fan of the first movie but the second one I really liked as it felt like a superhero version of Crimewave. It seemed pretty obvious that the studio tampered with the story at the last minute to get Venom in but that didn't excuse the bad direction for the other 95% of the movie. And Christopher "Hellraiser" Young's score wasn't nearly as good as I had hoped it to be.
-
so far, it's been pretty mediocre -- terribly paced, and i think tobey macguire turns in one of the most unnuanced performances ever. i know it's a comic book movie, but this is fucking sunday funnies peter parker i'm seeing here. kirsten dunst remains repulsive, although i find bryce dallas howard kinda cute in this.
jesus, though, the pacing. the editing is just incomprehensible. i suppose i blame avi arad. squandering the talent of thomas haden church on those sandman scenes should merit brutal fucking censure.
-
Topher Grace should have been Peter Parker in this movie series. He's hilarious in his few brief scenes, and shows more character than Toby "Mashed Potatoes and Mayonaisse" Maguire did in all three movies.
-
YES. he is actually very NOT eric forman in this outing, and he has WAY more screen charisma. his scenes are probably the best parts so far.
the cg work is totally disaffecting and actually kinda annoying.
-
They could have just transported Topher Grace and Laura Prepon straight from the set of That 70s Show to the Spider-Man set, and had a perfect Peter and Mary Jane. Laura Prepon actually looks like she might be an aspiring actress or model, and not a snaggle-toothed cave troll
plus, whoever thought Dunst should be allowed to sing (MORE! THAN! ONCE!) needs to have their jaw unhinged with boot stomps
-
god, the whole "sandman killed ben parker" subplot was so embarassingly unnecessary and poorly-handled.
-
Topher is good. Maguire is such an annoying piece of smelly turd.
-
How about that Butler, hahahahahahahahaha
-
It gets a lot worse, especially in the overblown end. I know Raimi loves his cliches but he over did it in this one. I agree that Hayden Church makes for a great Sandman but for fuck's sake did we really need to force the viewer into liking the character because he has a sick daughter (who by the way never show up again, at least in that cut). In fact, almost everything in the movie feels very forced. Still, Bruce Campbell's scene makes the movie almost worth watching again.
-
Bruce Campbell looks like he did some method acting in food research for his role
-
I fucking bought the boxed set on blu ray
I do like the second one a lot, but had never seen the third
what was I thinking
-
i dunno if haden church makes a great sandman because of exactly the reasons you said: shit character development and shit dialogue. he's squandered in this. 90% of the time, he's gape-jawed cg. they coulda had ah-nuld -- or thc's stunt double (lol at his initials) -- play the complete role to identical effect.
-
I agree with Willco that there's a director's cut out there that will surface eventually. It's why I haven't bought the movie yet.
-
What is it about CGI modelers when they do humans - they always seem to think it only looks realistic if everyone has their mouths wide open and screaming
-

will that dc make toby maguire act like he isn't on xanax and vodka, and erase all the ugly from kirsten dunst
-
oh jesus, this bridge breakup scene is fuckin' high school theater
-

I loved Spider-man 3!
-
It's the third movie comicbook curse. Superman 3, X-Men 3, Batman Forever and now Spiderman 3 follows it. I wouldn't be surprised if Fantastic Four 3 is worse than the Corman film given the quality of its predecessors (then again, I had more fun with the Corman film than Tim Story's version).
-
ichi, how
i mean, i can understand liking it just because you love the character, but as cinema itself goes, this ain't good
it's not, like, ice spiders wretched, but it ain't good
-
i should point out that there is some good (besides topher grace): individual scenes, broader editing issues aside, have a lot of classic raimi shots that work well for comic book movies, and manage to transcend even the goofy cg. james franco is good, too, and the little spat between synbiote tobey and james mid-movie is a great example of how to shoot a good, dynamic fight scene -- fast, good takes, and clear tracking of the action. it's the closest thing to evil dead-era raimi we've gotten yet!
-
I think it's because I watched Die Hard 4.0 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 immediately prior to it. Those two were so bad that SM3 seemed like high art in comparison. I was totally into it and how close to the feel of the comic books it was and how it just went from plot development to plot development without really pausing and giving the viewer time to take a breath.
A friend of mine rented it last week and invited me over to watch it but I said no because I'm afraid it'll shatter my awesome memories when I saw it in the theater. :lol
-
die hard 4 was so, so, SO bad. i have not seen pirates 3 yet, and i do not want to after the things i've heard!
-
I pre-ordered the Die Hard boxed set on Blu Ray, too
I'll probably like DH4, mostly because I wanted to be bruce willis/david addison when i was a kid
-
It helped that my expectations were so low because the trailers were so awful and tried to make the movie look DARK and EDGY. Emo Peter was played for laughs, and that helped to alleviate a lot of my worries. The scene where he's dancing down the street while everyone gives him a look like "This dude is cray-zee" made me lol.
-
okay, this peter parker as hitler-haired stud bit is so very very very awful. a better actor could sell it, because it's a funny idea, but JESUS.
-
He's not supposed to be a stud, tho. He's supposed to be a dork who thinks he's a badass while everyone else still thinks he's a dork. I think Tobey did fine in the movie, the only one who was less than stellar was Drunkst.
-

Really? I felt that Spiderman 2 was more of a return to form for Raimi. The whole slapstick beginning was essentially a big budget version of Crimewave and the Doc Ock hospital scene was an obvious tribute to Evil Dead. I didn't feel that kind of love in the third outing. Maybe I should watch it again and see how I feel about it now that my expectations have lowered.
-
funny, the waitress and the folks at the jazz club seem to react as though he's cool. and yes, i grok that there's supposed to be a "hilarious" disconnect. it's just that tobey can't sell it -- i just feel bad for him.

-
I hope he bangs Gwen Stacy in the next one. Up her pooper. :rock
-
as my wife observed -- and she's much more sympathetic to the movie than i am -- most laughs during that scene are because it's nice to finally have a little comedy after a relentless series of awkwardly-spiked high-tension scenes. in the broader picture, though, it's still jarring -- again, this movie feels hacked to bits and badly reassembled.
-
Pirates 3 is better than Spidey 3. I don't know why people like Spidey 2, it was easily the worst. Spidey 3 at least doesn't take itself seriously most of the time so you can lol at it. Spidey 2 was just god awful lines and cheese, while being serious about it.
-
don't forget the awesome american flag. Spiderman is a true american hero!
-
I havent seen the first one yet. There should be an HD-DVD bundle. Down with blu!
-
This was the only Spiderman movie I haven't seen in theatres, and I still haven't seen it. But I just want to see it for that stupid strutting scene with Toby. Has that already happened btw?
-
okay, the butler scene. i dunno if even an awesome battle royale at the end can make up for that.
-
this and that new superman movie were the only two movies ive ever fallen asleep in at the theatre
-
after a terrible, cliche ridden, goofy-ass battle, th church turns in a nice little bit of epilogue. that was a good closer for even a clearly underdeveloped character with hacked-in motives -- a nicely composed scene all around.
-
well, it's better than transformers, inasmuch as constipation is better than violent diarrhea. a director's cut could improve it, but it won't fix the terrible tobey and "snaggle-toothed cave troll" (that got a lol from the wife) performances, or that fact that is two movies badly mashed into one. i give it a c-.

I'm not sure if you know this, but your "two movies in one" comment is right on the mark. The screenwriter originally wanted to split the script up into two movies (so did Raimi, apparently), but they could never figure out at what point to cut the script to divide things in half.
-
this and that new superman movie were the only two movies ive ever fallen asleep in at the theatre
Come on, now, Superman Returns had some flaws but it was still way more enjoyable than Spidey's souless cash-in sequel.

Yes, Superman is much better, if not only for the visual style and CGI shots.
-
that plane scene had some of the worst cg ever
-
Superman Returns was probably on par, maybe a little worse, than Spider-Man 3. Even at its worse, it was more entertaining than Superman. Emo Spider-Man > Emo Superman.
