I originally played it on my 6600GT with mid to low visuals, I have a strange urge to retreck through it with my wonderful new 8800GT. Time for some mod searching.
I didn't really like the game but I plunked so many freakin hours into it. I think its my masochistic ways really coming into bloom considering the amount of time I actually put in. Anyways, maybe it'll be a whole new world with HDR enabled...MAYBE

Just make sure to play it with its shit leveling system fixed.

Oblivion doesn't need HDR lighting.. the game itself is a masterpiece.
anyway, I played Oblivion and finished it, awesome game, also i finished shivering isles, thanks to the achievements points i played the game from A to Z.
so, you might get the GOTY edition for 360 and start playing BlueTsunami :bow

Good game but totally not my taste. If you do play it though, you might as well go hog wild with an rebalancing/level system fix mod to patch Bethesda's curiously odd game design choices.
I say play The Witcher instead.

I put so many hours in Morrowind, no matter how many times I tried I couldnt get into Oblivion
-
dont do it, play a good game instead. Baten Kaitos comes recommended

I'm in the middle of the 360 version myself and have been blown away. My RPG history is mostly from JRPGs and Oblivion was my first foray into the ES series and it has been very refreshing so far. I do agree that the character balancing is a bit off.

I've put alot of hour into Morrowind and Obilivion and while the games have a detailed history and world, they've always felt empty to me. Never was able to finish either game as I usually get bored with them. I think I prefered Morrowind over Oblivion mostly due to the art direction of the world, but both games seemed to lack something which kept me from fully enjoying it. Maybe it was personality.

Play Two Worlds instead :bow

You have to be willing to overlook some major flaws in the game design (hello SOTC!) to enjoy Oblivion. It's an incredibly immersive and atmospheric game. Too bad it's also very tedious and easy. I love it though for what it tries to be.
