Title: Help me Evilbore: I want to watch Pan's Labyrinth
Post by: TVC15 on November 10, 2007, 12:45:47 AM: Now that I am finally watching movies from the past year, I want to watch Pan's. The problem is, of course, that it's not out in HD until December.

Here are my options:

1) Watch it on DVD. It is a recent DVD so it probably upscales better than most.
2) Wait until December to get it in HD. Although the DVD probably upscales well, it is a sexy looking movie, and it would be a shame to watch it in a less than ultimate sexy state. Watch Devil's Backbone instead, since that won't be in HD for like, a long long time.
3) Play Gundam Musou and watch Naruto all night while wearing nothing but my boxers with my dick hanging out.

Post by: Enl on November 10, 2007, 12:56:17 AM: If you haven't already, watch Chronos and Devil's Backbone first and wait for Pan's Labyrinth in HD. I saw the film in the theatre and it's stunning looking. Plus the wait shouldn't be too hard with all these games and other films coming out.

One thing to keep in mind before seeing it is that the fantasy elements only take up about 30% of the movie, a lot of people go into it expecting Labyrinth and Dark Crystal but it isn't the same thing. Usually they end up disappointed (shame on them because it's a well made piece of celluloid). It actually reminds me more of Reflecting Skin, Tideland and The Fisher King in how the fantasy is dealt with.

I will point out however, that the image quality is pretty ace on the DVD, and it rocked reasonably hard on my fancy shmancy setup. So there's no wrong decision here is all I'm saying.

Well, then again, no I wouldn't, I own the movie on DVD.
