Title: DEAD RISING
Post by: Himu on November 11, 2007, 01:34:05 AM
This game is tough! I love it! Best survival horror game of the ever! I actually feel as if I'm trying to survive!  :o

Please give tips! The guys in the army jeep are fucking tough, escorting folks is annoying ("BYE BABY!! NO!!"), and that goddamn clown is a bastard!

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter forever!

Give some guns to the people you're protecting.  They get unlimited ammo.  Wait for the guys in the jeep to hit an obstacle, then blast them with a shot gun.  Kill the guy operating the turret first so they can't shoot you anymore.

I still haven't played this game very much, only like ran around and killed zombies for a bit... I really should, especially now that I'm done with BOF:DQ. I just remember there's a katana on the second floor of the mall, go to the coffee shop, and jump out of the window onto the awning, that'll help at the beginning stages quite a bit (especially against the first boss).

The secret to Dead Rising is to get all of the books that make the weapons last longer. They stack, so a weapon will last like 9 times as long. That makes those Clown Chainsaws indispensable.

Yeah, the escort gets annoying after awhile.  It gets even worse when you have to carry one of them while trying to escort several others.  One thing you can do is just move on to the next area when they're close enough to the door.  Even the ones that are being held by zombies will move on if they're close enough.  Also, bring extra food items to replenish their healths and try to give them shotguns since their aims are pretty crappy.

Drop Lost Planet - the game's just not worth it.  Dead Rising however is all kinds of awesome.  I especially love the story/game twist they throw at you.  Dead Rising went from mearly being a good game to a brilliant one after that.

I'm on day 3, I've 3 more cases left, and I'm tying up loose ends. I should be able to "beat" it tomorrow, but I'm going to immediately replay it and keep leveling up. Gotta get to max level! Also, I've gotta get at least MOST of the achievements. A lot of them are fun!

Recent adventures in Dead Rising:

I found an underground parking lot, stole a sports car, and I racked up about 2,000 zombie kills in 10 minutes. It. Was. Awesome.

I also found the maintenance key, so now I can travel faster. That's good!

I got caught by the cultists on accident. I thought they were going to kill me, but they kidnapped me. I woke up in some random janitor closet in the mall in nothing but my underwear (wtf did they do to Frank??), I murdered them all!  8)

isn't that the mode where you go past 3 days (if you get to the chopper in time) and you basically keep leveling up?  I don't know if it means you start over in the beginning of the game or if you're going to stay around and pick up survivors.

"Overtime mode" is when you gotta get a whole bunch of supplies and queens and bring them to Isabella so she can make an antidote for you. After you beat that, you unlock "Infinity mode", which is some serious survival action.

I've had Dead Rising for a while now and whenever I play it I usually die pretty early on, but a good amount of time after a save point.  What I've done in the past is start over to preserve my level, which has resulted in me getting absolutely nowhere.

With the intent of beating it as fast as possible next time I play, when I die should I: a) start completely over once again and do so until I'm powerful enough to just muscle through the game at a rapid pace without fear of death, or b) start from a save point several hours behind current progress and just gruel through it as efficiently as possible until I eventually reach another save point?  Tell me how to play this silly game.

I always save after a case in the nearest bathroom

One if the first things you should do is save the security guard, who reveals the secret path in the bathroom. It's a lifesaver when escorting people.

Beat the Clown w/the chainsaw and then you can keep going to his spot for a respawning chainsaw.  Meat cleavers are also really effective.  In general, melee weapons seem to work better than guns.

It's not hard, the save system just isn't conducive to the way I've been trying to play the game.  It's like it encourages you to dick around, but if you fuck up, you lose hours of level progress.

I'll try some of these tips tonight.  Thanks guys.

you don't lose hours of level progress, unless you die. it's always the same level and stuff what do you mean. all you have to do is not die. always carry orange juice or wine with you, and always grab a katana or baseball bat, something for crowd control.

Holy shit. I am now able to do things I was unable to do before. I just escorted like 4-5 people to the security room; people I had LOTS of trouble getting to the security room my first play through. I could probably get most of the escorts now. Wow. And I was doing all of this DURING my case file missions and still had plenty of time. Dammmn, being a higher level really makes a difference.

Once you get to LV.50, you can deal lots of damage even with CDs.

I beat the clown lol I've beaten ummmm the clown, Steve the store manager, the guy with the hatchet, Carlito 2 times now. I just recently got an achievement for taking pics of the psychopaths, and I can take on a cop psychopath now apaprently but I want to do it after this case file. Game is even better when you replay it because of the shit you didn't see the first time.

I've saved 17 people so far compared to my 10 or so people last time. I'm doing really good this playthrough!

I'm on day 3 in just a few hours already. This time I'm NOT going to make it to the helicopter deliberately. I wanna know what happens. I'm level 38 now and I've saved 19 people so far. I woulda saved more but more but that cigarillo Ronald ran off because I didn't get his fatass food on time.

the second fight with carlos where he's got the sniper rifle or whatever (on the 2nd level of the mall) is incredible hard.  i always get frustrated and just start seeing how many zombies I can take out.

I still suck ass at this game, but I think I "get" it now, at least.  One of the problems I was having was from trying to squeeze in all (or as many as possible) of the side scoops, which I don't think is plausible when you're at such a low level.  You run too slow and you're far too weak.  You kinda need to accept that it's a game meant to be replayed and adopt an attitude of "fuck it -- i'll do that stuff next time" or it's all sort of overwhelming.  That's a nice attitude to have concerning the survivors too -- their pathfinding and A.I. quirks are fucking frustrating.

Post by: Himu on November 20, 2007, 07:40:51 PM
You don't have to do all of the side missions, to be honest, it's almost impossible to do all of them. Pick and choose.
Title: Re: DEAD RISING
Post by: Saint Cornelius on November 20, 2007, 07:43:13 PM
Dude, you need to learn to set way points for the people you're rescuing. Hold right trigger, press "y". It makes things a LOT easier. Keep 'em all in a store while you go rescue the feeble people.

I should plan ahead more, I guess.  My strategy so far has been to set a waypoint to SPRINT TO THE DOOR, FUCKERS and then I clear out the area in front of door that exits that particular mall section and then run back and collect everyone that was too dumb to make it there themselves.

I just did the scoop where you fight the fat female cop and I was running around with 8 people or so and only managed to get one back to the security room.  Two of them died in the warehouse. :(

I frakking loved Dead Rising when it came out.  I had so many achievement points on it (before my old account got canceled :( ).  I never actually beat the last boss though.  The final boss was my one big complaint about the game.  You can get through the whole game not really using the special hand to hand combat moves.  But you get to the last boss and you have to be an expert at them or he kicks your butt.  That was my experience anyway.  So I gave the game up after that.  Still... I do think it's the best survival horror game I've ever played.  The save system was brilliant in a hard core way.  You actually felt like you had to survive.
Title: Re: DEAD RISING
Post by: Himu on November 23, 2007, 03:56:16 AM
You don't have to be an expert at all. All you have to do is keep jump kicking. He'll block it but eventually he'll try to hit you, and you score a hit. You need to hit him like 4 times. Easy.

just started playing this, cool game but feels too much like GTA at times. and Im having the same sort of stress going on as in BoF: Dq, theres all this stuff to do and you dont have time to do everything, but yeah I dunno. Guess I havent fully got to grips with what exactly to do yet. Dudes in jeep raped me lolz. Wheres the uzi and katana that were mentioned earlier on in this thread?

well just the way the dude runs around swinging his shit wacking zombies reminded me of playing GTA for some reason, and all the texty pop ups and scoring and shit also brings GTA to mind, I guess its more of a presentation thing anyway. This game actually has awsome hand to hand combat moves and sweet animation. Well I do have a head cold so Ive been sitting on the couch eating cold medicine all day so yeah I am 'high' to some low extent lolz. I couldnt stop thinking about the ranked match achievements in undertow :( gotta get em soon! No ones ever playing on live  :'(

last boss was a pice of piss, just spam the double lariat move and he cant touch you. What an amazing game! The whole experience really came together in overtime mode, loved the presentation and the tounge in cheek-ness all the way through. Gonna shelve the game for a bit and come back later for more achievements, currently got about 700/1000 so Im not too far off! The ones Ive got left to do are mainly the annoying/ hard ones i.e eat all the food, wear all the clothes, kill 54,000 zombies, stay inside for 24 hours, save 50 peeps etc. I'll probably just grab some faqs and work through them methodically

yeah pretty much, the best 360 game ive played! I find it hard to believe that several assholes panned the game for being hard and having an unusual gameplay/saving style, Its just a unique product. Theres so much polish and care to enjoy in this title, even the ending credits music rocks!

Im looking forward to taking on the Saint/Transmissionary achievements, with my gaming skill, FAQ, and Level 50 Frank I think I can do it  :-*

I recently got into this.  I'm at the beginning (around case 1-3 or something).  should I focus on the story or on rescuing people?  I know that rescuing people gets you a lot more experience.
Title: Re: DEAD RISING
Post by: The Sceneman on December 18, 2007, 10:36:55 PM
Its kind of up to you really, you start off pretty weak and unable to rescue guys effectively, so you might want to focus on escorts initially, gain a few levels and restart the game later on at a higher level. A higher level also makes a few tricky cases more manageable... but its up to you. The game is pretty open ended
Title: Re: DEAD RISING
Post by: brawndolicious on December 18, 2007, 10:49:51 PM
so you can play for a few hours and "level grind" going after survivors and then restart at the higher level?
Title: Re: DEAD RISING
Post by: The Sceneman on December 18, 2007, 10:55:00 PM
yep, your level never goes away, you can play through half the game get to level 20, die. The game will give you an option to reload from last time you saved or restart the game with your current status. Similar to Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter if youve played that. At the start of your new game you will be at lvl 20 with all the abilities/stats youve aquired

So yeah the game is designed to be replayed over and over

The Unbreakable achievement sounds ANNOYING. The thing I hate about those army guys is that they are so ball bustingly hard and appear randomly. If I remember the way to get that achievement is by not getting "killed" ONCE in overtime mode.

I've found one of the books that lengthen the time span of the weapons like the chainsaws, but I can't for the life of me find the second one

but it can help  :-*

as for the books, theres two bookstores in Paradise Plaza, the one in front of you when you exit the warehouse has the engineering book, which lenghtens the life of construction gear, theres a book called 'entertainment' the other bookstore (underneath the coffee shop and where you get the katana) which lengthens the life of 'entertainment; releated goods (oddly the small clown chainsaw is affected by it, presumably because the clown uses it to entertain, who knows) so thats a double booked clown saw right there. theres also a book called 'criminal psychology' or something but I cant remember exactly where that is, adds longevity to edged weapons. So if you get all three the clown saw can kill 2000+ zombies before crapping out
