Word on the street is that AXELAY will be hitting the virtual console today! Freaking today!

For my money its the best pure shooter that Konami's ever been responsible for. Its got great visuals, an astounding soundtrack, and does everything else that shooters do but only better. And as a virtual console game its free of many of the problems that plague most Wii games (obtrusive waggle, shite image quality, general embarrassment of playing it), leaving nothing but the sweet, exposed goodness of a very, very fine game to be played and enjoyed.
Get some excellence today, get Axelay!
(good rhyme at the end, yeah?)

Don't buy any VC games. Fuck VC.

demi :bow
-
old school 2d games look terrible on PC monitors though. unless your PC is hooked up to a TV, it might be worthwhile to get some games off VC.
-
Hack your PSP then, but don't buy VC games
-
I played some wii tonight, holy shit does it look crap on an HDTV. Gonna have to buy some component cables when I get mr gay

lolz so true.

yeah, not so great. But VC games (after component) look AWESOME on my HD. Even Sin and Punishment looks pretty dang ace, I don't know why the image quality is so much better for the old games then the actual Wii games, but it is.
and I challenge Demi to do well at all on any sort of shumup WASD-ing it, it just won't work.

okay, did you miss the thread title, it said NO BITCHING.
I'm not going to get mired in some argument I've already read 10,000 times. This is about how totally awesome Axelay is and how it deserves to be played and celebrated by everyone.
Everybody get Axelay however you prefer, just get if fer crying out loud.
-
yeah it was the 1st time I'd played Wii since I got my HDTV about a month ago, been preoccupied with the 360. Played some Eledees, looked so friggn assy I couldnt even finish the level I was playing

ZSNES has a nice AA feature. :)

that only applies to standard definition TVs, old school 2D games look better on PC monitors cause at least you can set it to an integer scaling window with no after effects

i don't like axelay's vertical stages. that weird scrolling effect in which the level looks as if it's printed on a tube has aged very, very badly. but the horizontal stages are still great. and the round vulcan is one of the coolest shooter weapons ever.
best konami shooter, though? i prefer xexex and a number of gradius, salamander, and parodius games. perhaps among others. thunder cross 2. ajax. who knows what else. the old konami <3

Axelay is good but if you have the chance, pick up ALIEN SOLDIER instead... fucking awesome game, got it last week and it's sick now that I'm getting the hang of playing it.
-
Alien Soldier is awesome, and that's coming from someone who generally doesn't like those sort of games at all.

For the most accurate emulation, buy VC.
Plus, the Classic controller is much closer to the SNES pad than anything you can really buy for the computer.

PC emulators are way more accurate and option-filled than the VC emulator. Also:

I remember getting this controller way back when... came with a CD-ROM chock full of shareware... the Commander Keen games, One Must Fall 2097, Jazz Jackrabbit, some top-down shmup game... good times, good times!

You should probably stick to drinking, cause it must be HARD being WRONG all the time

Why is this not scheduled for release on Japanese VC yet? :(
Trivia: it's the last game Treasure were involved in while they were still working at Konami.
Nah, one dude who worked on it later joined Treasure, but that's the only connection.

Good to hear love for Alien Soldier. It's the best justification yet for the VC's existence.
lolz @ the Gravis pad, lolz @ four countersunk buttons. Patel should've linked this: http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?productID=118

I don't ROM as much as y'all but my VC Super Metroid >> my ROM experience
Axelay was one of those SNES games I'd rent and always flinch at buying. I did really like it back then.

Yeah, it really was.
I had the later version that was made to look like a digital PS1 pad. Tomb Raider was great on it.

I just found the disk in my desk drawer... and yes it was :o I'm gonna have to install this and play it now!!! I also found Ultimate DOOM, I *NEED* to install that... DOOM :rock :rock :rock

Ultimate Doom :rock the 4th episode isnt so hot (really weird tough levels) but the 1st 3 are classic. Inferno on Ultra-Violence ftw. Final Doom was my favourite version, the TNT expansion was incredible. New midi!
