Gene Wolfe...I really like the Lyonesse books. Much less of a hard edge than the New Sun stuff but lots of fun. And lots of trolls ravishing young damsels with their giant warty cocks. Which is sort of a barometer of quality for me in a fantasy novel now, like exploding helicopters in an action movie.

ugh, the New Sun books -- that was crap like Shadow/Claw, right? all i remember are those nasty sex scenes and the stupid "sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" cop-out. yuck!

well, i read it eons ago -- i just remember being annoyed by the meandering plot, the gimpy allegory, and the creepy -- dare i say grr martinesque? -- sex scenes. i should probably re-read it now that i'm older and less impatient.
