Title: So like, who thinks Itunes 7 needs a recall lol rite?
Post by: MrAngryFace on October 16, 2006, 01:23:16 AM
Mac Fans need not apply, I can predict the hilarious responses.

Fact of the matter is Itunes 7's video playback is crap and the ipod updating utility that is built in is freaking out for lots of people. Granted, my issue with the updater was vista based, but I am an exception a rule.

If Apple wants Windowz3 people to pony up they better make better releases of itunes LOL.

Not like I have an option anyway rite :(

I noticed the other day that it fucked up a bunch of my songs with that pitiful attempt at gapless playback. It added a split second of the next song of an album on the end of songs, so when I made a playlist of random songs it fucked shit up. Fucking piece of shit.

Nah, I've noticed gaps before, and it irked me a bit.

But it was better than this shit. Fuck you Apple.

I think there's a way to turn it off. I'm too lazy to look for it. But I think my music files are already fucked up. Does anyone know if the actual files were fucked with, or they just seemed fucked up when played through iTunes and my iPod?

Gaps suck if you're listening to mixes.

If Windows people are upset about iTunes, check out MS's Media Player support on OSX.  Or how long it's taking MS to deliver a universal binary version of Office.  MS and Apple screw each other over with half-assed cross-platform apps all the time.

I think this is more an issue of it working fine with 6 and not with 7 than espionage

I think Apple should've waited to release iTunes 7 for PC, in my opinion.  Works great on my mac, but ugh, what a hassle on the PC.

I would have waited. Sure I dont own a mac, but I shouldnt have to for a PC release of software.

All these extra, and useless features (to me) sorta piss me off.

Well, the video playback of the new content is the big reason to upgrade (SDTV quality of TV shows), but it plays like shit on a PC.

Why release it if its shit? Im still not buying a Mac lol. I have it all on mypod anyway, im a whore for downloadable tv shows.

The truth is, the playback is gravy on Macs and iPods, and the increased resolution was needed to make movies and TV show downloads via iTunes a truly viable distribution source.  Apple develops for their platforms first and foremost, but they don't want to cockblock the PC, so you get half-assed software.

Also, if you think iTunes 7 is bad, you shoulda been around for QT7's Windows launch.  Worst.  Playback. Ever.  I think H.264 movs still play like poop on some XP machines.

Yeah, their HD shit still plays like shit on my PC, and while it's not high-end, it's MORE than capable of playing 720p (Athlon XP 2GHz, 1GB DDR, Radeon 9600 XT).

People say VLC plays the itunes videos but I havent had much success. I suspect that VLC doesnt render H.264 or whatever?

As for performance there is no reason my PC should play video choppy. Its got 2 gigs of fast dual channel ram, a 2.66 athlon 64, a fast ati videocard, an audigy 2...I mean come on

I think the big QT7 issue is that QT is a tightly-integrated OS component in OSX, whereas it's just an app in XP.  No excuse, I know, but it also explains why every version of Media Player on OSX has blown ass.

VLC will play H.264, but not iTunes H.264 because it has the Apple DRM on it.  iTunes is the only thing that can play stuff that has that DRM on it.  As of now, there's no way to strip it off movies.  Music is another story, though.

Well the stuff plays on mypod which is why I am not like...royally pissed lol.

At first I suspected it had something to do with Vista RC2's weird new audio stuff and Creative's lacking drivers, but after research im pretty sure its not that....in this case.

The only problem I've had with the latest iTunes is that I have to make a new, temporary playlist every time I want to add new songs to my iPod. If I don't do that and just drag everything into "my iPod" like I used to be able to do, only about twenty songs transfer over and then nothing. Hence, the playlist. That seems to work.

I'm debating whether to buy the latest Quicktime Pro so that I can make high-quality videos to play on my iPod. I've gotten into recording musical guests on the late night shows, and the ones that I've encoded into QT using some program by IMToo - they leave a bit to be desired.
