Title: Politics Age, Opa Style
Post by: Phoenix Dark on October 17, 2006, 05:17:15 PM
Every time I see my paycheck, with that massive fucking chunk going to my state and federal taxes, I think about how some fucking worthless crackhead is sitting on her stoop whilst her 7 crackbabies run around, and how I am feeding her... Even food stamps, people say that the recipients use them for food, but really, if they are getting their food for free, doesn't that free up the little funds they have to use on drugs? I really wish we could just have a fucking survival of the fittest mentality, way too many people in this country live off of free handouts... I just feel if they faced imminent starvation, they would be more likely to drop the crackpipe, although it would probably be to pick up a gun... unsure.gif I guess I just hate that I have to pay for it.

As I understand it, over the past 10 years welfare reform has been more of a deconstruction, its a lot harder to get welfare period, and while it seems to be limiting access of welfare to the crackhead do-nothings, it is also harder for families that need it to get it.

I don't really care how much is taken out of my paycheck - especially when I drive over a gigantic pothole, and I even volunteered some of my check to go to some charity that my work place donates to (I admit I don't know what it is...)  ::).

opa-ages is deader than Hans' erection at a hawaiian tittyfuck luau. it's transcended mere unreadability and become the collective internet avatar of whatever shitrate deity governs distinguished mentally-challenged fellows afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome.

Drinky, don't you think evilbore oughta grow out of the same ten or so posters posting regularly before you make snap judgements like that?

It's more entertaining than GAf and fanboi circlejerkoffs with Dragona flexing her muscle; or, as it would be at GAf, "****"

haven't been there in a couple weeks -- even me with my amazing net fortitude can only handle the relentless go-rounds of "sfag" and "xfag" and '"lolz 9/11 was an inside job" and "wah wah gaf" ad nauseum.  why do you post there? there's gotta be bigger challenges for an experienced hater such as yourself than pissing on the likes of ruzbeh, hans, jotaro, teddman et al.

truth be told, it's still less gay than gaf, in the way that a syphilitic hobo is less gay than, well, said hobo's gay equivalent.

At least Opa Ages can occasionally make entertaining political threads.  It's better when jack-asses get beaten around instead of banned.  Cause you can't ban for circle-jerking.

I love OA for what it used to be.  But it's gotten fairly ridiculous over there lately.  That's why I've almost completely stopped posting.  I know it's been fairly over-used in the past when describing OA, but it truly is becoming GAF-Lite recently.  I love the place, but I mostly skim there now and read a few interesting threads and post where necessary.  I miss the OA from a year ago and before.  I still like a lot of the people there, but it's been going downhill for a while.

R.I.P. OA

no, opa-ages doesn't make better political threads. they say more over-the-top things, but the actual caliber of argument is vastly lower than that at gaf -- which is really really fucking sad.

At least they can have gaming discussions, I guess that's what makes the political discussions more bearable, the gaming discussions have biased peole who will admit that they're biased.  I can't read GAF because of that.

aw, i like Teddman. he's probably a lot of fun to have a beer with in real life, and unlike Melissa, I would actually go and have a drink with him! he's just uh, how you say? Histronic a little bit. also there's a couple of posters there that I really like and would feel remiss if I didn't get to read their spewing from time to time  :-[

I don't like those fucking douchebags being able to ban me. I'm vitrolic, sure, but more entertaining than the douchebags ruling GAf with an iron pinkie. Is it profitable yet, Tyler?

Welfare doesn't just give them foodstamps... they get all sorts of other aid/benefits too; ESPECIALLY if they are a single mom. Don't have a car? The government will buy one. Need gas? The government will cover it. Can't afford to buy a house in the current market? The government will help you with that, too. Don't want your kid to use your school's daycare center? The government will pay your parents to do the babysitting they normally do for free. Want to go to school? The government will not only pay for the classes, but pay YOU to attend them.

People get too many benefits in this country for doing absolutely nothing.

I know people on welfare, and they certainly don't get those benefits

My sister's on welfare, and she doesn't get any of those perks. All they do really is give her free food for her baby, and they also pay for the formula. She still has to pay for diapers and other stuff. The state pays for the baby's health care. That's about it. She doesn't get any help at all with her car, gas, apartment. She couldn't even get them to pay for her daycare.

Can't we just render the poors into oil or use their bones for fuel or something?  Then at least they'd be giving back to the community they're always take-take-taking from.  Plus that would let us nuke the brown people, which is something I've been itching to do since the Carter misadministration.

Que?
No industry should be subsidized. The agriculture business especially. What is this the 1800's? Many things can be grown overseas with better yields and for less cost. Take cane sugar for example, it makes little sense to grow it in the US, so why subsidize it.

As for illegal labor, I'm sure many industries would love to hire illegal workers for a fraction of the cost they pay for American workers. I don't see why farmers deserve the benefit of cheap illegal labor. Labor costs are a very small part of produce costs anyway, something like 5 to 10%. If you doubled salaries you wouldn't notice at the grocery store. Besides illegal workers only work on farms for a very short period and then move on. Farmers get them for a few months, America gets them for ever. Furthermore cheap labor from south of the border has prevented many American farmers from using labor savingtechnology like they use overseas. Fuck the farm lobby.

I agree completely. However, Princess Wayway seems to think that Mexicans are the biggest problem facing the USA (it used to be fegs getting married but it's not a Presidental election year so it's not that big of a deal to her currently), and I just find that to be an odd viewpoint when American taxpayers have shelled out over $143 BILLION dollars to subsidize farmers over the last decade. Personally, I'd rather invest in that than a fucking unwinnable war on drugs and terrorism. But I'm just trying to expose Wayway for what she really is: a racist, xenophobic idiot.

JFK died with the Civil Rights bill still on his desk, still unsigned; what a man!

JBJ was truly interested in helping blacks as well as the poor, and he was a master politician when it came to getting his legislation passed; this is always overlooked, and people forget that he was able to get many of his southern friends to vote for the Civil Rights bill. But, LBJ also did a lot of harm to the country and blacks with Vietnam.

I find LBJ to be fascinating, mainly for his many contradictions of character.

I'm not really a liberal. He screwed everyone. Hell, if anything he screwed anyone who is right of center for generations to come. He did more to move people to the left than Michael Moore could dream of doing.

Michael Moore moves people to the left? After people look up his bullshit, they move away from the left. That's what happened to me. I used to be pretty far left, and now I'm still on the left...but I have a brain now

Welfare varies on a federal and state level, as well as from county to county. We're talking about three different levels of benefits, grants and aid that people can draw from unique to their place of residence. I'm not even mentioning the independent organizations/outreach programs that receive funding from the government.

I don't really want to be bothered to look up every single individual program at 1:31 AM, but here is the general rundown from the Tulare WORKS site:

Quote
* Child Care - payments can be made for a child 10-years-old or younger who is either part of a TulareWORKs cash case, or is not part of a cash case, but lives with you under your care. You are responsible for choosing a child care provider and making the arrangements for child care payments. The County will not make child care payments to someone in your TulareWORKs case, or someone under 18 years old. If you choose a provider who is not licensed, finger-printing and Trustline registration will be required, unless your provider is the child's aunt, uncle or grandparent.

Their family members are paid for babysitting the kids even when daycare centers are available at schools. The family members do not need to be licensed. All that is required is that they be finger-printed and fill out some forms.

Quote
* Transportation - includes payments for public transportation or mileage reimbursement to offset gasoline and vehicle maintenance costs.

They are given a special credit card that they can use at food places, gas stations, etc. and when they don't use that all they need is a receipt to be reimbursed for the cost of gasoline and car repair up to a certain amount. If they do not have a car, but need one to commute to school or work, I know that there is also a program where they can get anywhere from $500-$4,500 towards the purchase of a car (depending on the size of the family).

Quote
* Work or training related costs - payments for special clothing, tools or books for work or training can be made as necessary.

This covers not only community college courses, but also the cost of books and supplies. They also get a special credit card for this like the one they use for gas or car repair.

As for the housing... just Google HUDs.

Everything I mentioned in my post is offered to families with children/single mothers in my county and other parts of California. Don't believe me? Come here and find out for yourself.
