We have lived as if in a trance.
We have lived as people in fear.
And now—our rights and our freedoms in peril—we slowly awake to learn that we have been afraid of the wrong thing.
Therefore, tonight have we truly become the inheritors of our American legacy.
For, on this first full day that the Military Commissions Act is in force, we now face what our ancestors faced, at other times of exaggerated crisis and melodramatic fear-mongering:
A government more dangerous to our liberty, than is the enemy it claims to protect us from.
We have been here before—and we have been here before led here—by men better and wiser and nobler than George W. Bush.
You can read the entire thing right here! (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15321167/)

I'm usually not an Olbermann fan, but it's actually a pretty coherent and well written editorial.

I think most republicans can only reply back with "Its not THAT bad...com'on!' rather than "Thats all made up!"

Yeah, PD needs to be banned from all political threads since "lolz libruls piss me off" isn't an ideology

While LBJ did some wacko things with Vietnam the democratic party is forever in his debt. He made easily over 90% of the african american community lifelong democrats.

Republicans have an agenda to support the rich of this country, as well as businesses. Poor people are left out of the equation. Considering the majority of black families make far less than white families, it's no wonder why Republicans aren't interested in them.

They are traitors to the movement. Falling into an endless loop of distinguished mentally-challenged, contradictions, coonery, and a new generation of bamboozlement.
To me, any negro who talks liek dis and slangs shyt, knaw'm sayin', dawg? is a traitor, because people died for you and instead you treat it as if it was a fucking joke.

By that logic, anyone who uses slang must be rebuking the freedoms afforded to them...

On a serious note: that's a little harsh. There's nothing wrong with talking like that based on your environment. It's a social issue. Someone born deep in Mississippi is going to talk like that, whether they're black or white. It doesn't mean they're stupid at all
Now when it comes to fake ass gangsta niccas in the suburbs trying to act like that, yes you're 100% right

I hope you have the opportunity to see these posts when youre 40 so you can feel as embarassed for humanity as I am when I read them.

Not when the majority of a race's age group talks like that or is fed ridiculous bullshit similar to it. To me, if you don't even have the fucking gall to speak English and take a lot of these things for granted that many of our elders had to fucking fight for, yes you are a traitor.
And yes, I'm talking about those fake ass gangsta coons.

you dumb batshit clown, try reading a few conservative blogs like instapundit and powerline, where half the time all they *do* is bitch about olbermann
jesus herpes christ, get your fucking head out of democratic underground and randi rhodes' blog

And yes, I'm talking about those fake ass gangsta in the suburbs. Even if you live in the city, you can go to the library. Being poor does not mean you have to be fucking stupid. Malcom X, was born poor, and that dude was smart as the people who went to High School and College. And hell, that was in the damn 1940's and 50's when this shit was FAR more less tolerating and racist.
Making up excuses does not keep you from achieving potential.

With respect to Olbermann, I shared my opinion. If you don't like it, fine. I'd prefer to see all TV journalists held to the same standards.
With respect to black people are crack, if you thought I was serious about that, you're the idiot :lol
With respect to the Republican party and poor people, that's a fact. So what's your problem?
-
I had to edit my post in the fear of sounding Phoenix Dark.
-
FACT: DEMOCRATS ARE SPINELESS.
FACT: DEMOCRATS HELP THE WEAK, AND CORRUPT OUR SYSTEM.
FACT: DEMOCRATIC JOURNALISTS ARE A SECURITY LIABILITY.
VOTE PHOENIXDARK FOR PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND FLUSH THE COUNTRY DOWN THE POOPER.
-
Wow you guys suck.
-
It takes much less effort to be close-minded Phoenix Dark, than to simply be a little objective lol
-
Your "opinion" that Olbermann doesn't come under fire was fuckin' wrong. He gets excoriated worse on conservative blogs -- which generally have larger readership than libby blogs -- in ways even that fatass Limbaugh doesn't take from, say, Kos, or whatever those fringe college "liberal" blogs you read and whine about are.
-
Drinky, I resent the term "blog". It undermines the maturity and responsibility of the platform, equating it to simple adolescent hijinks. We much prefer the term "instant political news disbursement program".
-
That's not the point. My problem is with Olbermann's clear liberal bias, and how no one seems to care. He's not Jon Stewart, who's on the fucking Comedy Central channel. He's on MSNBC.
I'm liberal btw
Just because you're on TV doesn't mean you have to be down-the-middle on everything. Olbermann is paid to be himself and to editorialize how he wants on his own show. He's not paid to be a faceless, opinionless talking head that's just there to regurgitate the generic news. His views do not express those of MSNBC and he doesn't represent anyone except himself.
"Bias" is not relevant in a situation where any sort of opinion, no matter where it leans, is valid and appreciated. Bias is only used in the pejorative sense when its presented in a non-editorial, non-opinion piece.
-
blogs are nothing more than the worst episodes of CNN Talkback LIVE put to text.
-
It takes much less effort to be close-minded Phoenix Dark, than to simply be a little objective lol
Closed minded? Where am I being closed minded? Last time I checked, not one person has challenged any of my assertions or answered my question. Why is it ok for Olbermann to demonstrate a clear liberal bias, but it's not ok for conservative TV journalists to do the same? Shouldn't we expect them all to be...fair and balanced?
For many years now the Republican party has shown a clear interest in creating policies to support big business while also benefitting the rich. Since when is this new? Or is it wrong now just because I said it?
-
dunno, sounds kinda COMMUNIST to me
after all, there's a kinda person that doesn't EARN their political news and just TAKES IT

Like O'Reilly?
-
Olbermann is exactly like O'Reilly in terms of his job, but not his ideals. Neither are news anchors.
-
PD: That's because everything you say is like the sound of 1,000 people farting in unison. Why should we even attempt to figure that shit out?

No one intelligent has ever said O'Reilly isn't a good journalist or talking head for speaking his Republican rhetoric. They simply just think his thoughts are stupid. He's allowed to say whatever he wants, but it doesn't make him exempt from criticism on his wacky thoughts.
-
PD, when has ANYONE -- ANYONE YOU ILLITERATE FAT FUCK -- argued that conservative pundits don't have a right to express their opinion on TV? Last I checked, our complaints were with their lack of facts and fear-mongering, not their right to address us from a prominent public platform.
GET YOUR PECKER OUT OF THAT STRAW MAN
-
Like O'Reilly?
I would like for you to show me somewhere where it was stated by an intelligent person that O'Reilly should not have his own TV show because he's promoting a Republican viewpoint. His viewpoint is his own, he's allowed to express it, and we're allowed to not watch it if we choose. Criticisms of O'Reilly have been against how stupid his thoughts can be, not the fact that he has an avenue to express them to the public.
-
Olbermann is exactly like O'Reilly in terms of his job, but not his ideals. Neither are news anchors.
So would be correct to say that there shouldn't be any complaining about the bias O'Reilly shows, or Hannity, or whoever?
MAF: Now that I've explained my position, does it make more sense?

Perhaps I hang around at far left boards/blogs too much, because I've heard people say that. In real life as well.
-
So would be correct to say that there shouldn't be any complaining about the bias O'Reilly shows, or Hannity, or whoever?
No. Why shouldn't people be able to complain? They're voicing their opinions, people can voice their opinions too.
-
PD:
Unfortunately you've authored so much crap on this forum the moment of redemption in MY eyes has long since passed. Nowadays every time you speak I am treated to a chorus of farts -- and sometimes whistles if you stumble on an idea someone throws at you.

I used to be pretty far left. I'd hang around on this board:
http://forums.therandirhodesshow.com/
After I became sick of the far left, I continued to hang around there since I had friends there. But now all I do is debate and get called a conservatroll lol
-
Perhaps I hang around at far left boards/blogs too much, because I've heard people say that. In real life as well.
They're just exaggerations or rantings of obviously annoyed people. Normal people with a clear head will always, always allow anyone the right to say stupid shit. They will never, ever prohibit that person from the right to express those views. The fact that you're allowed to stupid up this thread is evidence enough of that.

Why? You think I'm a conservative? :(
-
The problem with internet arguements about politics is that they have zero impact or concerns on what the normal American feels or cares about.
What Keith Olbermann says on his show (which has such a miniscule audience) is such a non-event in these people's worlds, its sad that educated people even obsess about it.

No one's obsessing over anything. We're just discussing the issue. Olbermann may have poor ratings, but I find him to be quite interesting

Doesn't Olbermann have the highest ratings on MSNBC?
-
Doesn't Olbermann have the highest ratings on MSNBC?
Lolz what does that say about MSNBC :nuhuh
-
I don't think you can really accuse someone of having low ratings, especially as a talking point to paint him as unpopular, when he has the highest ratings on his particular network. He can only go as high as the ceiling.
Furthermore, looking at the ratings, he's ahead of CNN in his timeslot, and ranks ahead of O'Reilly in some demographics.
I don't think he's low rated.

MSNBC "Must Be Thrilled" By Countdown
MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann enjoyed one of its highest-rated nights ever on Monday, averaging 834,000 total viewers from 8 to 9pm.
The broadcast topped CNN's Paula Zahn Now in the demo and total viewers last week, and the trend continued on Monday. But more importantly to MSNBC, Countdown averaged 333,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo -- just 65,000 fewer than Bill O'Reilly's 389,000 demo delivery. MSNBC actually beat FNC in the demo between 8:15 and 8:30pm, according to a tipster.
It led an e-mailer ask: "Can anyone remember the last time an MSNBC show rated so high in a normal news period? The folks in Secaucus must be thrilled!"
But Olbermann couldn't build on the high ratings he earned on Monday; he was booked on the Late Show with David Letterman last night...

Show me some quarter reports with Olbermann ahead of O'Reilly. lol

I feel Olbermann is our generation's Edward R. Murrow.
Show me some quarter reports with Olbermann ahead of O'Reilly. lol
No one ever said he was. He is ahead of CNN though.
-
Show me some quarter reports with Olbermann ahead of O'Reilly. lol
I never said he was ahead of O'Reilly, I said he was of O'Reilly in some demos. And I was right. He also is ranked ahead of Zahn now. You lost. Shut up.

LOL this is the exact link I posted. Are you even trying anymore?
Willco, read:
Countdown averaged 164,000 total viewers in the quarter, up 41% from Q1 2005. Zahn averaged 158,000 demo viewers (down 33 percent), according to MSNBC. Bill O'Reilly averaged 450,000 in the demo (down 24 percent).
He beats out Zahn, loses to O'Reilly. So, where are these demos in which Oldermann beats out O'Reilly again? I wouldn't be suprised if he beats him in younger demos considering he's pretty entertaining compared to the old fart that is O'Reilly. But, where are the numbers?
You can't provide quarter reports, and you can't provide demos that prove your point. And you just used the link I provided in the first place. YOU LOSE. What a fucking pussy

Some people have to work!
Your original point is that Olbermann is low rated... I show you that he's not and that he is ahead O'Reilly in the demo as of THIS WEEK. Considering he's scored his highest viewership this month, don't you think it's a bit unfair to compare past quarterlies to current ratings?
... By the by, you're still wrong! You called him low rated and he's not. End of story. You lost - as always.
-
lolz pd owned
-
Katie Couric (who is deemed a miserable failure by media press) recieves almost TEN TIMES the viewers of a Keith Olbermann.
Cable news is only important to political junkies. People who are already set in their ways of viewpoints.
That's why people like O'Reilly and Olbermann are non-stories. They influence no one, because the people that watch them are already set in their opinions.
It's fucking professional wrestling of politics. Pomp and bombast. News presented to be provocative first, informative second. It's junk food ... read a newspaper instead.
--- ---
Wilco, ratings are determined by quarterly reports not weekly. If you wanted to win the debate, you should have shown that Olbermanns ratings have been steadily trending upwords for the past year.
But even that is misleading. It's like saying my cock grew 50% when I added an inch to it.
-
Also, Olbermann's trend is way up, O'Reilly's data has leveled off and dropped in some areas. I'm not saying Olbermann is going to overtake O'Reilly anytime soon, but it's silly to discount Olbermann because he's "low rated".

His quarter ratings are low, period. When the new quarter ratings come out, he'll still be behind O'Reilly. Couric's first week on CBS saw huge numbers, only to disappear in the following week.
You claimed Olbermann was ahead of O'Reilly in certain demos, yet you failed to provide any evidence of this. In fact, you used a link that proved you wrong. So you lose. Will you admit that you were wrong on that?
-
My favorite Oreilly quote is when he said 'Ive seen combat'.
I loled so bad.

O'Reilly was better when he was on The Insider.

Katie Couric (who is deemed a miserable failure by media press) recieves almost TEN TIMES the viewers of a Keith Olbermann.
I don't think there's any denying that, but it's not like Olbermann is that bow tie-clad fucker Tucker Carlson.

I claimed Olbermann was ahead of O'Reilly in some demos, and he was, albeit it was this week. In fact, I proved a link that proved me right. You post quarterlies outside of October, his highest month of viewership, because it somehow validates your spin.
You are just trying to spin this, because you've been humiliated in public, once again, for speaking out of your ass and claiming Olbermann is a low rated journalist. Especially considering he ranks ahead of CNN now, you're so wrong about this it's just sad.
The spin your selling is so awful. You should work for O'Reilly.

He doesn't wear a bow anymore on his show "Tucker". :(

Hi, my name is PhoenixDark. I called Olbermann low rated and was proven wrong, and am grasping at straws to keep some resemblance of public credibility after being blasted out of the water. Watch me post past quarterlies when recent evidence proves the contrary, because somehow it validates the only thing I may or may not be right about - and had nothing to do with my original point!
Or as MAF hears it:
FART FART FART
-
Ah, FART FART FART, thanks for clearing that up Willco. I had originally thought PD was going for the point Fart Fart *whistle* Fart.....Fart Fart. I am partly to blame for this misunderstanding.

A week doesn't prove your point and you know it. Ratings aren't determinded by weeks: they are determined by quarters. And according to the latest ones, O'Reilly is ahead of your boy. In fact both the links you posted show O'Reilly ahead of Olbermann. You have no point, at all. And your such a pussy that you won't admit it.
If anyone is grasping at straws, it's you. I'll recede on my previous statement that Olbermann was a low rated journalist. His ratings are lower than O'Reilly's though, as well as many of the other big hitters. Your point?
:lol

After the past couple of laughable debates with me, PhoenixDark has been so thoroughly raped in public that when he farts now, it just makes a "WHOOooo!" noise.

The broadcast topped CNN's Paula Zahn Now in the demo and total viewers last week, and the trend continued on Monday. But more importantly to MSNBC, Countdown averaged 333,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo -- just 65,000 fewer than Bill O'Reilly's 389,000 demo delivered. MSNBC actually beat FNC in the demo between 8:15 and 8:30pm, according to a tipster.

Show me one place where Olbermann beats O'Reilly in a demo. What a waste of time :lol

I already did! It's not the only time! I never said he beat O'Reilly in any demo, I said he's ranked ahead of O'Reilly in some demos. And he has!
I'm not going to argue technicalities as you try and spin this away from your only true argument - that being that Olbermann is low rated (whose repeat btw, is the #1 ranked show in that demo). You lose again.
Wait, let me translate that for you in your native tongue:
FART FART FART SPIN FARTY-FART-FART :lol

Countdown averaged 164,000 total viewers in the quarter, up 41% from Q1 2005. Zahn averaged 158,000 demo viewers (down 33 percent), according to MSNBC. Bill O'Reilly averaged 450,000 in the demo (down 24 percent).
?
And don't pull the 8:15-8:30 shit out your ass. You know that's not relevent to this; O'Reilly had more viewers and ranked ahead
I can't wait for the new quarter numbers to come out

I already receded there. My problem is with your inability to admit you're wrong. Olbermann is behind O'Reilly every single day according to those numbers.
I never challenged anything about CNN. But since you mention it, Dobbs/King/Blitzer beat him on most days according to those numbers. :lol

What will PhoenixDark post next, as he attempts strategically change his position from the only argument he made which was Olbermann's so-called "poor" ratings to attacking the technicalities of one point of my entire rebuttal (which he has now deemed correct!)?
Probably more :lol and maybe a :-*

That's not true. You claimed Olbermann ranked ahead of O'Reilly in certain demos, and I challenged you. Ever since then it's been a circus show of you dancing around, changing the issue. I ceded that Olbermann's ratings were not "poor" an entire page ago, yet you continue parading around like you've won something.
You have yet to show Olbermann leading or ranking ahead of O'Reilly in anything. I've posted many links which further prove Olbermann continues to get buried by O'Reilly on a daily basis.

-
No one thinks Oreilly is smart. I swear there were some early years where he made sense, then he just went batshit insane during some episode lol.
-
Yeah, I used to enjoy O'Reilly's program a long time ago, but since then, he has become a cariacature.
-
its like he's trying to fling himself off the cliffs of absurdity.
-

O'Reilly went insane once he got popular lol. He wasn't bad on Inside Edition, but when he started doing real news he sucked; especially during the Clinton scandal. That's when he got popular of course...but at the expense of factual reporting.
The way he treats his guests teters on rudeness to downright hilarity. "SHUT UP!"
-
He was on his own show for a few seasons.
But lets not change the subject of the thread: PD has dumb opinions on politics! Take it away, Willco!
-
I think O'Reilly was always an idiot, now he's just open about it and expects approval for it.
edit: This is what gets you fucking rich.
