Has anyone read this? Rather than attempt a sensible discourse on a complex issue, they've decided to just BAN THE NAMES OF EIDOS GAMES. Not only does making your own forum harder to read not make any sense, but it's a completely ridiculous way for the "premier" gaming forum on the web to act. EvilLore is way out of line. Are you going to discuss the issue or take your ball and go home? It drives me crazy.

1up mentions that Sony might have played a part in the firing because of the 7.5 Ratchet and Clank review.  Why doesn't GAF ban Sony and R&C too?

Just a few weeks prior, GameSpot came under fire from Sony Computer Entertainment America for scoring Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction a 7.5. I posted once in a while, but the threads turned into such shitholes that I mostly lurked on the gaming side.  I was mainly there for the OT goodness.

just to tone down the doucheness on the forum when somebody links it, could someone here post in that thread (I don't have a gaf account) that banning eidos and it's games makes no sense since eidos likely didn't put any pressure on gamespot to fire gerstmann.  they just saw that they had a half million dollar ad campaign on a review site that thought their game was average so it made sense for them to pull their funding.  if you go on gamespot, you can easily see that there are no huge banner ads on the right and left because it was planned that eidos uses that space (but eidos obviously withdrew it's ads).  if eidos put pressure on gamespot/cnet to fire gerstmann, then the ads would still be there since gerstmann was fired.  eidos didn't do anything wrong as far as we know.

The banning of the words "Eidos" and "Gamespot?"  All right, sure, why not.  It's not like it's not hard to just type "Gamesp0t" or something similar to get around this censorship; if they really want to do something, they should just make a big stickied thread asking people to never go to Gamespot, cancel their memberships, and stop buying Eidos titles.  Money talks, this is nothing AND it's annoying.  If I go to the wrasslin' thread, I can't talk about Kane because "Kane" is a banned word too.   ::)

Shit, this is probably GOOD for Eidos.  I kinda want to check out Kane And Lynch now, just because of GerstmannGate.

I stumbled upon an archived thread that Goodcow has on his site from 2004.  It's amazing how different (and how much better) GAF was just a few years ago.

Banning titles of anything is pretty silly, I think, if only because it makes actual discussion ridiculous.

And "punishing" Eidos by banning the names of their games makes it difficult to talk about them on a gaming forum.

It's not a big problem, but it's not something I think makes a lot of sense.

I think the community is overestimating its reach as a punitive measure, especially when it comes to Eidos.  There's no doubt that the forum is one of the bigger online video game communities, but it's far from the biggest and the most important when it comes to the mainstream.

The self-righteous nerd rage at GAF over this is pretty awesome, I just wanted to get a piece of the action. Stir the pot a bit. :D It reminds me of the time we staged at walkout in High School to protest something or other that seemed like the absolute epitome of unfairness at the time, and then all ran back inside when the principal called the police.

yeah I don't know if synbios will get an IP ban from gaf for there but I know that the mods are pretty strict about not having extra accounts.
