I am down to the last 5 flicks. I have seen them all before with the same caveat I have been using the whole time: aside from Strangelove, I haven't seen any of these since at least college, and I may or may not have even seen Spartacus, and if I did, it was likely before I even knew who Kubrick was. That said, knowing the circumstances of its making doesn't put it on top of my must see list, all though I am curious to see how Kubrick-y it is. My gut tells me that all 5 of these earlier films will not be as incredible as using their soundtracks as the movies that came after, especially knowing that was one of the big deals about 2001.
I have also included Vivian Kubrick's kinda famous documentary, Making "The Shining" on the list. I have no idea how good it is, but what with the going reclusive in the 70s thing, you don't really get to "know" Kubrick that well, and the things you hear are often very contradictory (for example, compare his relationship to Anthony Burgess and Malcolm McDowell to the ones he had with Peter Sellers and Terry Southern. Read about his relationship with F. Lee Ermey). I think at the very least it will be neat to see him at work. Although I am doubting, due to his nature, that the doc captures much of his personality, it was made in the late 70s, when he was mostly in full reclusive weirdo mode. And heck, it was his daughter's documentary. Maybe he let his guard down.
Also this picture of Kubrick is awesome because he is totally delivering the Kubrickian Glare:

The Killing is pretty awesome. Watch that.
-
Spartacus is awesome, but Dr. Strangelove is quintessential Kubrick.
-
Strangelove, unless you want to leave the best for last.

I bet Dark Shake wants you to watch Strangelove. Think about that for a second.

Oh hey I didn't know Red Cloak registered
