If I had my way about things I'd get both, but that's not how life works. I made up my mind awhile ago that I was going to get Orange Box no matter what, at the time I was sure that Mass Effect would slip into 2008. Well I was wrong so yeah, here I am.
Orange Box looks really strong. It has 5 games for the price of one which clearly, is a huge bonus. The only issues that comes up is that I already own Half-Life 2 and Episode One, plus TF2 is apperently shit on XBL. Let me just say that my computer is utter shit. I have an ATI Radeon 9250 and 512mb of ram, I get about 5FPS out of Half-Life 2 and it's Jaggy as shit. So more than likely I'd feel better about buying HL2 and EP:1 after playing it with nice non-fail graphics and a decent framerate.
On the other hand, Mass Effect looks just as strong. I loved KOTOR(even though I never finished it) and never played Jade Empire so I can't really have an opinion on it, all tho from the reviews it seemed like a great game. I'm just afraid that the combat system may be hard to get into, and judging from what Ive seen in videos it might be too slow for my tastes aswell.
So what do you guys think? Should I get the fantastic deal of 5 AAA games on one disk or, one of the best RPG's of the year?

This is a really tough decision. I'd say go with both but...if I were to pick one I'd go with Orange Box. It is the overall better package, and has better games, that's not to say I don't like Mass Effect more but...damn.
-
ORange Box because Mass Effect is a turd
-
Orange Box, no doubt.
Mass Effect is a high water mark for story telling and presentation, but it's just as disreputable for making combat a complete after thought. Story telling is the main quest, combat is a side quest, so to speak.
Orange Box is a magnificent portfolio, a genius master's class in design. Any one of those titles would be worth the purchase price. Putting all 5 together is a deal so sweet and so kind that God himself must have been involved. You'd be crazy not to, PR.

If you want a great story filled with awesome dialogue, get Mass Effect.
If you're looking to shoot up shit, get Orange Box. It's that easy. :)
-
The Orange box is awesome, lots to play there.
Mass Effect is great however, but not the better deal for your monies
-
I love Mass Effect. If you enjoyed KOTOR and want other RPG in the same vein, definitely get it. It's fun as hell and incredibly immersive. I usually hate, hate, HATE RPGs, but Mass Effect is a lot of fun.
But Orange is a great value. One thing to consider, though: Team Fortress 2 is fucked up on Live. And if you're not too keen on Half-Life 2, then three of the games in this package aren't going to appeal to you.

wait, which one has portal in it
ok, and which one is a stupid rpg

ok, and which one is a stupid rpg
But it's a stupid WESTERN rpg!
-
Awesome VA, yes. Awesome Dialogue, read a book.
-
OR PLAY PORTAL
although i guess that's more like 'awesome monologue'
-
haha, yeah
-
Orange Box. . .and I *like* Mass Effect. But how is a pretty much Perfect Game supposed to feel threatened by a game with the worst vehicle sequences since, I dunno, storming the beaches of Normandy on those shitty ass ghetto boats?
-
Orange Box
And I haven't played Mass Effect. I just KNOW.
-
If someone were holding a gun to my head and forced me to decide, I guess I'd go with Orange Box just out of pure value, but the Orange Box and Mass Effect were definitely in the upper echelon of games I've played all year. I really loved both just about equally.
-
Mass Effect. Its GOTY and Orange Box is just the same old HL2 we've been playing since 2004. And yes, I own both.

Let me translate: "This oxygen is just the same old oxygen we've been breathing since the dawn of time"
-
And its getting stale.
-
chronicles of riddick > half life 2
portal made the purchase worth it alone
-
Orange Box had Portal. Mass Effect had elevators. Nuff said.
-
do whatever you want dude it's your money lol
-
Sorry for the double post but I gotta ask. Would it be wrong of me to skip orange box for the time being and get GH2 at $80 and COD4 at $30 using a $10 TRU gift card plus the B1G1 50% Activision games deal at TRU?
yes, get rock band or GH3 instead
-
well then you're screwed arent you!
-
i don't see what's wrong with that, don't be greedy.
