It's fun so far, but too much of the map is locked. :maf
Anyone else played it yet?
-
I would seriously drive to anywhere in the lower 48 to play this demo.
-
Fuckin impressions people!
-
I just called my brother and asked him to start the download. so in about 4 hours i'll have some impressions
-
Is PS3 version out? I'll dl both to make a comparison.
-
Playing this now
-
Is PS3 version out? I'll dl both to make a comparison.
both should out today. i'd do the same but i'm too lazy to deal with PSN.
-
holy shit this demo is multiplayer. so far it's pretty cool. it's like those EA Need for Speeds that have an overworld and shit like GTA. It's really neat so far.
-
overworlds suck; i want crazy levels
-
is it true the 360 version has frame drops? :punch
-
The overworld sucks ass. There's so much dead time driving from race to race and stunt race to stunt race. The appeal of Burnout for me is the fast action. I've been playing for over 30 minutes and I still have not encountered fast paced action. In fact, I haven't raced with anyone yet.
-
you guys should check out frontline too, this demo is sweet
-
no, those only let you play online, not make you an actual gold member
-
i already dont like the overworld, you also cant directly warp to an event from the map, or even set a marker so you know where that place is
stopping at a gas station to refill your boost? stopping at a repair shop? this is GTA, not burnout
looks good, runs smooth
-
also, that sense of speed when boosting is completely gone. it feels neutered. i dont feel the rush. go back and play Burnout 3, or Revenge and see what i mean.
i think i'll stick with Revenge on 360.
-
After putting more time into the Burnout demo I think my final judgement is rental or buy for cheap.
it's weird because it has a completely different pace than past Burnouts. Burnout is about BALLS AGAINST WALL ACTION and this game is about going to gas stations and auto repair shops. Driving from place to place creates a lot of dead time that is just not Burnout-ish. It could turn out okay because the demo has a lot of races and stuff locked, but I can't help but feel I greatly prefer actual levels than this overworld stuff when it comes to Burnout. It just isn't working.
Thankfully though, the demo is multiplayer. I'm playing with ddkawaii and it's 100000 x more fun than the single player portion of the demo.
The dj sucks ass. SHUT THE FUCK UP CUNT
-

I'm hoping this changes after unlocking faster cars.
-
i dont understand why they give me this beat up car, only to have my stop at a repair shop and make it all shiny. what is that supposed to demonstrate?
-
Nothing, demi. I've got a beat up car and it runs the same way as when I got it fixed up.
-
sux
-
:'(
sp, mp or both?
-
both
-
Blarg. It's Tony Hawk with cars. They ruined one of my five favorite franchises. :gloomy
At some point I might like this game once I forget it's called BURNOUT and I start thinking of it as some new free roaming, Need For Speed-ish street racer, but that time is not now! :punch
-

NOOOOOOO don't say that. tony hawk + any game in the same sentence makes me wanna slappaho. :maf
-
Well, this is shitty. :gloomy :gloomy :gloomy
-
I'm downloading now.
All the overworld shit really worries me. :-\
Don't ruin my Burnout :(
-
IT'S ALREADY RUINED CAJOLE lolol
-
I haven't played it. IT'S NOT RUINED YET :'(
-
hmm -i heard from someone close to the project a while back that this one was "in trouble" from a number of points of view.
The big problem is that they spent a fuck ton on this one, they need big numbers to recoup the costs (it's VERY delayed, and they had to throw huge number of resources in) - so ... i just hope the franchise doesn't get black balled.
For real? I'm kinda surprised at the lukewarm feedback so far. The 1up crew has been hyping Burnout:P forever as a game that will change how racers are made.
-
How will it change how racers are made? It's the same goddamn thing as NFS whatever it is. The ones that have an overworld. Except this time Burnout has less takedowns, no one to race, and is boring boring boring. The NFS games at least let you race with someone.
-
Burnout Paradise is like that Test Drive game on the 360. It's such a fucking insult. Jesus fuck
:(
-
I'm glad that some people basically agree with my thoughts. If there are enough of us, maybe we will get our own BO game in the future.
-
the burnout paradise demo is horrible. you can't even race with people.at least nfs let you race folks.
-
DJ Atomica sounds sooo dreamy :-*
-
the dj is fucking annoying. I'm like GOD is there a way to turn this cigarillo OFF?
-

You speak of a utopia I would like to be a part of.
I was just arguing with some clods on GAF who are telling me all the "Burnout fundamentals" are still there. Like being able to push cars around into other cars and walls and shit? No. Like having a slow-mo aftertouch on your crashes? No. Like the holy-jeezus-cum-inducing Crash Mode? Gone.
TONY HAWK CAR.
-
The demo really blows. To be honest, Flatout Ultimate Carnage was more exciting than this and just as visually impressive.
-
NO CRASH MODE
what is Burnout without a crash mooooooooooooooooode
-
I think it's a one-two combo of "bad demo" and "too radical a departure from the series." In the full game there shouldn't be any wanting for things to do, since every corner has "race/feature blocked in demo" popping up in the demo. And the online should be fun (haven't tried it in the demo yet). No Crash Mode/Aftertouch is disappointing, but I wonder if it's possible for something like that to be added later as a DLC "expansion."
My biggest problem with it was that the few jumps and stunt areas in the demo are hard to see. And that it's not Burnout. I wish I'd kept Revenge now instead of selling it off.
I'm willing to give the full game a chance, but it's dropped to a rental on the list.
-
wow FUCK THIS
-
NO, FUCK YOU
:'(
-
i really really tried to like this demo. stopping and hitting LT + RT to start a race just fucks with my momentum. and i dunno, graphics don't really impress me either. the crashes are nice but everything is so fucking contrasty and bloomy. burnout 2 + 3 forevah
-
Jesus Christ, I'm playing stunt mode and it really is TONY HAWK CAR. I'm stringing combos together! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT FUCKJCHSFSKJLKLF
Definitely hyp. Burnout 2 & 3 are amazing.
-

it's more like wannabe PGR mode. except it doesn't even touch the awesomeness of PGR's kudos combo system. epic fucking fail.
-
Yea, I thought of that too.
-
I downloaded it last night, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. You guys are really making me afraid to try it out.
-
I just turned my 360 off in disgust.
-
I just turned my 360 off in disgust.
Play CoD4 with me tonight please?
-
Just got done with the demo.
WHERE THE FUCK DID MY FUN ARCADE RACER GO?
Hey, Criterion. Hey, EA. Do guys remember what FUN is?
-
I liked TDU and I have little to no experience with Burnout. Really looking forward to trying the demo when I get my shit hooked up.
-
Wait, do I have to actually invite friends to my city? It's not a real open server like TDU?
-
The combo system didn't make much sense at all.
-
I still can't believe how much they fucked this up. I still haven't played online with people, but whoever the fuck thought stunt mode would be an adequate replacement for crash mode should be fucking fired and have his home burnt down.
-
I didn't think it was too bad, but yeah, the down time between challenges is a no-no. It looks like it would be much more fun if it was multiplayer.
I'm sure the full retail will probably be better. I hope so at least. I remember seeing "this challenge is not in the demo" a lot, so if they had like a challenge at every traffic light that might balance out the game's driving distance better. The actual races are decent, and they took traffic checks out, thank god.
That would be my review of the demo if they didn't take Crash Mode out.
BUT NO CRASH MODE? WHAT THE FUCK. STUNT MODE SUCKS DICK I WANT CRASH MODE BACK.
-
I want to be able to select races from a menu, I don't want to drive around the city looking for a race.
Fuck this shit.
-
Ive never played a Burnout game, although I should becuase I like arcade racers. (it is an arcade racer, right?!) From what you guys are saying this sounds like a faget Gran Turismo car sim like driving to gas stations etc. fuck that homo shit. I want Ferraris, chip tunes and babes, Outrun 2006 4 eva :rock
-
no, this is like those gay Midnight Club and NFS Underground games
the old burnouts were just like Outrun (only better) and Cruisin USA (only better)
-

It's nothing like Gran Turismo. They basically threw the Burnout template into a sandbox style game. AND IT SUCKS.
Burnout 3 and Burnout: Revenge are still awesome on the original Xbox.
-
might check out one of the older games then. Which do you recommend.
And I was likening it to Gran Turismo in the sense of it sounded like boring as hell shit
I just dont see why people think you want other shit in a racing game other than cars going real fucking fast and sliding around corners and shit, omg you can make the suspension soft and move the tyre one virtual inch down omg so much fun I can do it for hours
-
shitty shitty ass sludge

Burnout 3: Takedown (I'm also a huge fan of 2, but it has a much different feel and look than 3)
-
it's not a bad demo per se, the problem is that it's thrown away the raw excitement and awesomeness for something that is less than what it was.
Seriously, how insane could this game have looked if it was a straight round course/in line racer?
It would be absolutely positively awesomely insane. Too bad they borked it to high heaven by incorporating the free-roaming sandbox element into it. :maf
-

Revenge is pretty sweet, you can just ram cars from behind and they fly away
Burnout 3 is more traditional, try to avoid cars
Both are well-recommended
Dominator is a turd tho
-
Revenge is on 360 too, btw
And there's a demo
-
sweet bra, I'll check Revenge, (superior version w/ achievements ftw)
-
I'll probably end up buying Revenge for the 360 too if Paradise doesn't get much better than the demo.
-
Yea, if I didn't already have and play through Revenge on the PS2, I would just buy Revenge on 360 instead of Paradise.
-
Tried to like this... I even avoided all the threads until I'd played it myself so my opinion wouldn't be colored. But no aftertouch and no takedowns = no sale! What were they thinking?!
-
Yea, so I tried out online for a WHILE.
Still sucks balls. sdlkjafhasjkdfar damn you Criterion. EPIC FAIL
-
The game fucking sucks.
I'll stick with Takedown and Revenge, thank you very much.
-
I've never seen distant hate a game so much that he said,"the game fucking sucks."
-

I know, right?! While I recognize they're shitty, I still play and love all those shitty Gundam games!
Seriously. Criterion took a good thing and dry raped it up the ass. Repeatedly.
-
It's a combination of massive disappointment and utter disgust, I imagine. There we go.
-
when i finished the demo for the first time i turned off my 360 in disgust. no joke. Every time I look at "Burnout Paradise demo" on my game library, which I have not deleted yet because I have a part of me that is hoping I'll like it in some way, I grimace.
-
I think it was just a bad demo. I can't call the game bad yet since so much have been locked. The graphics aren't jawdropping gorgeous at first glance, like the 1up fanboys have been saying, but they are pretty nice for a game that's running at 60fps. I've only played the PS3 version so far. The 360 version hasn't even been downloaded since the demo wasn't much fun to play.
-
Marble Blast Ultra >>>>>>>>> Burnout Paradise
I'm having so much fun playing this online right now.
-
WHAT DID THEY DO!?
Dammit, what is the developers excuse for this
