Insomniac Games said a while back that it was "flattered" that the spherical worlds of Mario Galaxy were inspired by Ratchet and Clank.
Official Nintendo Magazine UK asked the father of Mario what he thought about Insomiac's comments in a recent interview, to be published in the next issue (Issue 25).
Miyamoto said he was "surprised" by Insomniac's comment. "In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity," he went on to explain, "we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64."
"It's not an idea we got from anywhere else," adds Miyamoto, before adding: "I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?"
Miyamoto learns from no-one.
Owned.

Insomniac pwned!
:lol
:bow Miyamoto :bow

No one knows what R&C is anymore lol. Insominac ran that franchise into the ground. It was fun for the first 2 games but the formula got stale after that.
-
I honestly don't think he knew what R&C was. Nintendo is a very insular company, and Miyamoto is not a big gamer according to his own accounts.
-
The newest R&C is not that bad. It takes awhile to get going but it's fun once it does. The game would have been much better if the difficulty had been ramped up right at the beginning. Despite retreading familiar ground, R&C's tighter core mechanics probably makes it a better game than Uncharted.

*claps for Miyamoto*
Ratchet and Clank Future is about as boring as boring can be.
-
I doubt that Miyamoto knows the name of half the games Nintendo publishes, these days.
EDIT: DAMMIT COHEN
-
Now I want to hear from the real designers of the latest Mario games, not some has-been figurehead.
That's not true. Miyamoto has been heavily involved in the actual game design for Galaxy.

A lot of that is probably nintendo PR.
-
Miyamoto may not play a lot of games, but that doesn`t mean he doesn´t know about the competition. I think he is lying.
-
Product N is a return to the series' roots! We've learned what people want and don't want from Product N-1. The creator of Product N^0 is heavily involved with Product N.

This is the usual excuse I hear, but it doesn't always jive. If that were the case, Miyamoto wouldn't have given people like Aonuma virtually all the credit for the post OoT Zeldas or Koizumi for Sunshine, and a bunch of other instances.
-
thats pretty funny - I often do not acknowledge my competitors.
-
They left out the rest of the interview.
Miyamoto: I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?
Interviewer: No, it's on the Playstation 3.
Miyamoto: The what now?
Interviewer: The Playstation 3.
Miyamoto: The Xbox 360?
Interviewer: No, the Playstation 3.
Miyamoto: Dreamcast?
Interviewer: The Playstation 3.
Miyamoto: Which company makes it?
Interviewer: Sony.
Miyamoto: Oh, I see...well I'm glad the Playstation Portable is finally getting some games.

did the spherical worlds in R & C have you jump from one "planet's" gravitational field to another? If not then he might not have gotten the idea from it.
-
Did the sphere worlds in R&C ever get beyond single-planet bonus stages with giant clank? Maybe you turned bolts once or twice on them as Ratchet? I remember running on one as Ratchet once.
It's nowhere near what SMG pulls off with them, really. Walking around a globe isn't really that impressive on its own anyway.
And I don't see why a platformer designer would care about Ratchet anyway.

Agree total. My comment on my PSN friendlist is RATCHET SUCKS and I get angry messages from sony fans.
The game is devoid of a soul. When you play mario, you can't help but smile. When you play Ratchet, you wonder if the game was designed by a computer or an AIBO.
-
I liked it :(

I liked it :(
It's not bad at all, but aside from the visuals, it just feels completely mailed in. Which is why it's so frustrating to me...it just doesn't have a VERVE...a FLAVA. It doesn't gotta SOUL. It don't got no SPUNK.
And I'd rather play a bad game with spunk than a game that was designed by a slide rule.
-
the Spherical Worlds in Ratchet and Clank were sex. I'm glad Miyamoto stole the idea for Galaxy.
which was stolen from sonic adventure 2 on dreamcast !
Not but seriously, ratchet sucks and I'm glad people are starting to realize this fact
-
I was way hyped for Ratchet 5 and the Insomniac guys are among the nicest in the biz, but I just couldn't get into the demo. And it just seemed like same old same old. It's pretty, though.
-
what is a miyamoto
-
I don't get the fuss that came from the original idea that galaxy used R&C sphere world. I played the first 3 and honestly I only remember like one small circular planet and I think it was an end boss battle.
-
what is a miyamoto
A miserable little pile of secrets?
-
A miserable little pile of plumbers?
-
So Miyamoto is like Stan Lee or Walt Disney?
