Right, if i was to build/buy a PC for -as full as Crysis spec- as possible - what sort of set up are we looking at here?
twin GT8800s is overkill?
Memory?
What CPU?
etc....
I am wanting to exercise my graphics whorism and , frankly, i'm bored of what the X360 and PS3 are showing me already - so i want something much more.
(yes, Crysis is going to consoles blah blah blah , but why play the "cotton" version when i can enjoy the "silk" version)

There really is nothing that can handle Crysis on very high at any resolution above 1280x1024. Crysis looks excellent even on high though. If you can't wait, you should get a pair of 8800 GTs or the new 8800GTS. The GTX or GTX Ultra will give you an additional 10-15% but you would have to spend 2-3 times as much.
I can get a better idea of what you need if I know your monitor's standard resolution.

wouldn't he be better off just waiting for the geforce 9 series cards in february?

Crysis looks great even on just high. I think it'll be a year or two before there'll be hardware that can play it on very high. Looking at the new 8800GTS, I'm doubtful that the next top of the line GPU from NV would offer more than 30-50% boost over the 8800GTX.
