Title: FF4 DS sounds awesome
Post by: recursivelyenumerable on December 21, 2007, 05:31:46 PM
Since demi's thread was handed a big fat FAIL by the wisdom of the market, I thought I'd muscle in.  Apparently they made it a lot harder and more tactical!

Quote
It's not a titch harder. It's significantly harder. In the GBA version, for example, the Mist Dragon does 30ish damage if you strike him while in Mist mode. In the DS game, he does 130 damage. You will die.

Quote
Overall, the game is definitely harder. At first, I thought it was just the bosses... but the random encounters are giving me plenty of trouble, as well. I know people whined about FF3 DS being limited to only 3 enemies... but facing 6 in FF4 DS is kind of overwhelming, and can really take a toll on my group. Mt. Hobs was especially bad in this respect, because people kept dying (yay for useless party members).

Quote
I don't think so. The game seems to focus on specific strategies like Megami Tensei games, instead of allowing you to brute force bosses. I just read a strategy for the boss I fought that apparently keeps him from using his gas thing, and I wish I'd thought of it before.

I don't think grinding is going to be the answer in this game at all.

Given what a hash Tokita made of FF1 GBA, I was afraid he'd dumb this down as well but it looks like they smarted it up instead!  I guess he's more respectful when it's his game and not somebody else's.  That and Hiroyuki Ito  :bow

As a bonus, sp0rsk and Kobun both hate it.  What more could you ask?

"analyze".  sounds like ivory-tower liberal-speak for "whine, beg for handouts, and fail to accept my irrelevance to the real world of today".

The link will have to go of course, but otherwise good to see you've joined the winning team.  I'm sure you'll make many more valuable contributions to my thread.

I'm not too sure about FFIV DS. My biggest hope was for new dialogue/a fleshed out scenario, but it's line-for-line exact to previous versions. Add identical field/dungeon layouts and identical music and frown frown.

I haven't heard the music yet (sound not working on laptop) but all the game music board folk say all the tracks do have new arrangements by Nakano, he  just chose not to stray too far from the originals (or the producers chose for him)

some of the tracks have, like, +/- 5% deviation, but by and large it's same as it ever was, only with worse bass response

?

I thought one of their reasons WHY they were making this remake was because they wanted to add new scenarios and dialogue.  It's apart of their first announcement of the game.  If it's NOT in the game, than insta-fail.

yeah, there's like one 6 line cutscene flashback if you talk to Kain before you leave Baron Castle; otherwise...same dialogue, new cutscene direction. maybe there's more later?

he's the new namingway
only since there's voice acting you can't rename your characters lol
so he changes his name to mappingway and helps you map

FFIVa is one of the best games I've ever played, and the first real RPG I played from beginning to end. Can't wait for this :bow
