If you have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to an HDTV, and then switch it to composite through an SDTV, you can't fucking play it?
Is there some button combo I can press at startup to make it reset its output settings, or am I fucked for the rest of winter break?
Wii and 360 both automatically revert back to 480i.
-
but demi is supporting ps3 now! this cant happen!
Also I dunno, do you have your ps3 manual? a button combo would be in that
-
Hold the power button till it gives a blue light...i think...
or was it green?
-
press and hold the power 'spot/button' when turning it on till you hear additional beeps - the PS3 video settings will reset and it will try to detect your new settings automatically or just default to SDTV.
-
I hope firmware 2.0113 makes this process automatic.
Thanks for the infos dudes.
-
You hold the power button down for five seconds to reset the output, yah.
-
PS3 is so easy to set up. If only the simple ones would read the manuals... lol
-
I don't have the manual here.

I agree, AV Connections should be automatically detected instead having to wade through the menus.

No, no, Ken Kutaragi thinks too highly of his userbase. Stop asking to be left out of the technical nittygritty, you dirty poor/stupid.

same thing happened to me, you have to put the machine in standby mode (red light), then you hold power until it beeps again.
-
I also hate how audio either works through Optical or HDMI, not both. That shit is stuuuuuuupiiiiddd

ugh - so ... if you have a HDMI 1.2 receiver and you buy a HDMI 1.3 tv, you are basically can't enjoy both right (need direct connect to tv and a separate optical) or do the new HDMI 1.3 tv's have HDMI pass through?
Not exactly sure (I'm not using any pass through, though I should check if my TV does it :lol ). I have heard that not many TVs pass audio from an HDMI connection out to the receiver though.
But, the issue is I've got HDMI connected to my HDTV and Optical connected to my Receiver (shitty receiver, only has one Optical In). So if I want to use the sound system, I need to select Optical Out on the PS3, HDMI is the same thing but choose HDMI audio. They should be able to work together but noOOooOo, Sony just has to make it hard.

Pretty much. With the PS3, its as if they've spec'ed the system towards high end A/V equipment and started building down the PS3, feature wise.
Sony: "What? Its not working with your 2 year old reciever, hold on for 5 firmware updates and that function might be in"

I'm happy I purchased the PS3 after the whole BD 480p/720p/1080i debacle.
